    I used to be a triangle dealer and I was very impressed with the product line. They are so easy on the ears, I found myself that they didn't fatigue my ears like the klipsch which I also sold when I worked at a different shop.

    So I just recieved my pair. I couldn't resist after this video. They are stunning. I mean, right out of the box they sound really, really good. If someone is getting into this hobby, there's no reason to go beyond these Bro3's. For the price, the sound is nothing short of stunning.

      @Damion - thanks for sharing ! How is the off-axis performance of Bro3s? Yesterday, I went to a local audio store where they had a different speaker playing - those were placed may be 8 ft apart and it sounded as if the voice was coming right from the center ! I was told those speakers were phase & time aligned... just curious, do Bro3s have a similar sound?

    • @DamionG1987

      @@simplyns953 I also have them about 8ft apart. The Bro's really sound nice. They are still breaking in, but it's very hard to believe they only cost $550. They are blowing away my $2500 Zu's right now. Vocals and instruments sound great coming out of these. I'm trying to play different types of music to see if there's one place they fall down, and just haven't found one yet.

The sound is so relax, smooth and natural compared to the Elac debut 2 (I still love them, with my DIY crossover). It's so funny that i have to learn about a french product from an american :). I have to agree with everything you've said Sean. I've just purchased the compete ez and the sound is something incredible for the price. I was lucky to pick them up for 450€ which is a steal. Pair them up with some higher end gear and they just sound even better. Transparent, detailed, dynamic they work so well with all types of music. I've already forgotten about my elac uni-fi ub5s! Triangle are really onto something here.

    TBH, I'm more excited about these speakers than I was about the Buchardt S400's. Good stuff. Meanwhile, I need to address the following: (1) If you're in the US and would like to buy them, go here: www.adorama.com/l/Miscellaneous/Triangle~New-Products-at-Adorama . No, I'm not commissioned. Next, (2) I have no idea how any of the other speakers within the Borea range perform. For all I know, the BR03's could be the sweet spot within the lineup. I'll have to reserve commentary on those products until I'm able to get my ears on em'.

      Hi really enjoy your reviews.
      Could you include some objective measurements with these reviews so that I can have a fair idea of how it can perform vis a vis your subjective opinion.......so that I can also have a fair idea whether I can tally with mine.

      @@drnabakishor - Thanks! I'm afraid objective measured data will not be a part of Zero Fidelity at any point in the near future. With the depth of these cabinets, one foot is going to be a stretch. Maybe he should have included a review of them stacked together on a single floor stand in an X-Y pattern in the front center of the room, either severe toe-in or toe-out; stereo imaging by reflection and refraction only. 😒

  • @nicola5442
    @nicola5442 5 лет назад +4

    Hi again, bought them on Black Friday and am very pleased with how they sound. Especially for 340€ a pair !
    I'm no audiophile, but pretty much everything I've thrown at them (Nightwish, Sia, Ghost, Who, Rammstein, Buckley, Mozart, Barry Lyndon's S/T, harp, classical guitar, you name it...) makes for a very pleasant hearing, very relaxed (except for, say, Rammstein at nearly full blast ;-) ). Note that I don't do "whatever-they-call-R&B-these-days", hip-hop, rap, EDM, etc... so I can't say anything about that.
    The amp used is not the best out there (Yamaha CRX-N470D, 2x22W), but still it could drive them to reasonably loud levels (cf. Rammstein, I had to lower the volume after a while due to aching ears, not bad sound) and keeping it subtle for other genres (and, side note, these connected amps are amazing when it comes to sources : most streaming services available, NAS, shared disk on PC, Btooth, Net radio, phone/tablet... Shame it doesn't do OGG but I guess the audience here is more on FLAC)
    I just found the sound to be a bit "muddy" perhaps with one classical recording (symphony), with no instruments really standing out, but that could be down to the mix, amp, and I'm not used to listening much to classical anyway. Another one, a violin concerto, was quite OK. Any modern (rock/pop/folk/...) recording sounded great.
    One thing that surprised me was indeed the bass level. Given the genres I listen to the most, I was expecting to start hunting for a subwoofer very soon but honestly there is no need at all unless you are a Bose/Beats-addict. There's PLENTY of bass, and again this is with a rather puny amp. I believe that's what Sean meant with "not neutral". Some who like a crisp/thinner sound might indeed find it a bit excessive, but I've listened to Bose before and the bro's are far more neutral to that regard. And one can usually lower the bass level/play with the EQ on most amps.
    I won't repeat what Sean says about the rest (focus, treble, mid-range, ...), it's just like he says.
    One comment, Sean, you complain about the naming of these speakers and doesn't say a thing about the Harbeth "P3ESR" ? Seriously ? What is this pro-British bias I sense ;-)
    Thanks for the review, it was there when there weren't many out there on these speakers (still the case today) and as far as I'm concerned they are everything you describe, without the need for frequency response or distortion graphs and other funnies. Good job. See you in 25 years when I'll refresh my system again.

I know this is an ‘ancient’ video, but I’ll give you a fresh comment: I recently acquired a pair of these secondhand in new condition for a crazy price, and I can’t believe how enjoyable they are (and I’ve had several speakers lately, some considerably more expensive). Great tone, which is very important to me, I’m guessing at least partially due to the paper-based cone drivers, which I prefer. Anyway, thanks for the video!

    You're right, it's a great time to be an audio enthusiast. One can assemble a very good system for a relatively modest amount of money. I've been at it long enough to know this wasn't always the case. I've helped my sister, who recently decided to get into high fidelity, put together a system for less than a thousand bucks and she has everything but a turntable. It's not up to my standard but it sounds pretty good. Ask an aside, I'm also really impressed with modern wraps. When you can't tell if it's real wood veneer or not I think it shows they are definitely doing it right. And that's starting to be the norm. Anyway, those Triangle's do look beautiful and I have no doubt they sound every bit a nice as you say. I'm partial to French speakers anyway.

      There are so many great options out there that it almost makes me mad. I had to spend a lot of money back in the day to get sound that isn't nearly as good (or as accessible and easy) as it today. As you note, there's still plenty of merit to pricier gear, as it will still outperform the less expensive stuff most of the time. However, that gap is beginning to narrow quite rapidly.

    Liked the review. You make it pretty clear, which isn't easy to do. And I like the position you take as an advocate for "affordable" audio. Bravo. And, in particular, I like your final comparison with the Klipsch 600M's -- because I have 2 pair -- that you talked me into -- and I'm very happy with them. Because each pair delivers into a large space, they were the right choice for me. But if I were looking to drive a 16' x 24' x 8' room, these BROs might go to the front of the line. Especially if I was listening from closer than 8'. The Klipsch's are pretty 'in your face' closer than that, but wonderful throughout the rest of the space. Especially at high SPLs.
    So help me, a CD from a live session at the Village Vanguard sounds like being there, especially if I add two fingers of Macallan.
    The Klipsch's might be in my face, but so are real horns, drums, and a Steinway 9'. Or the entire Cleveland Orchestra ensemble from row four.
    I don't know about rock music. Live rock concerts sound like an arena with two semi's of JBL stacks force-feeding a shit ton of DSP.

    I just got those refurbished for 320€ in Germany. I'm coming from from Klipsch RP-51m (also because of your recommendation) which honestly were lacking mids and needed heavy equalizing and still then they were just lacking somehow. Now those Triangles arrived yesterday and i couldn't be happier. Never had sound like this. I'm supremely happy and want to thank you very much for the work you put in your reviews. They are honest and very helpful. With my Sabaj A4 Class-D Amp the BR03's are smooth (now I finally really understand what that word actually means), sound big and with my Klipsch R-12SW they just fill my room like nothing has before and maintain their soundstage outside the sweetspot so damn well - I didnt know speakers could do that. You and Triangle made me very happy and I couldn't stop myself from listening music until 4:30 last night. I feel like I have arrived with my system at a point where I can just enjoy and don't worry about gear anymore. Big thanks man!

    Even though I am an old geezer, I think your greatest efforts now should be to promote starter audiophile type loudspeakers and electronics priced at $1,000 or less for millennials. This is the best way to get new people into our hobby. Having said that, I propose a 'Sean Shootout' between the Triangle Bro 3, the Elac USA offerings at the same price point, the sneaky good two Silverline audio offerings at this price point, the brand new Emotiva T1 &T2, and the Magnapan. Perhaps you could even inspire Mads of Buchardt Audio to compete in this game. The generation of young music fans raised on hearing music on iPhones and iPads will be astonished at what is now possible. Actually, come to think of it, I would like to know myself. Let the games begin so the cream can rise to the surface. I am tired of seeing the same old guys attending the shows. Also I love the concept of promoting trickle down technologies. You should heap praise on the designers that do this. Perhaps Andrew Jones had to design the uber fancy TAD speakers before he could do the$500/pair Elac offerings. The same with AMR and IFI. Interview the brains behind these products.

    I was just about to buy the Br3's after an hour long demo vs some Bowers. Crisp sound, tight bass, sound is a little shut in but I changed my mind and ditch them. The reason being is their tweeter. They're just normal tweeters, you'll know where they at once you listen to them, they don't create that stereo image that the Bowers do. The Bowers tweeters instantly disappear into the whole room and create that tall, wide stereo image. They make it seem like like some giant PA's are standing right in front of you

    I have never liked old Triangles peculiar sound signature, those old Anteas and Cometes from 90s sounded all piercing sharp and squeaky. They had good sensitivity though so many people were pairing them with "sweet" sounding but low-powered tubes. These Boreas on the other hand, from a few samples I've heard so far, seem totally different beasts; gone are the eccentric antics, welcome the no-nonsense, close-to-honest sound.

Some filling inside the cabinet will be needed the wood from the cabinet could be used top and bottom inside on the side walls use bitumen pads self adhesive used in the car industry quarter of an inch thick each side on the back use natural wool fleece unspun 2 inches thick or rockwool. Ideally box in the tweeter isolated from the cabinet pack it Tight with rockwool if the tweeter is vented I don't think so in this case with the hole in the back of the magnet then don't use rockwool all the way only a third from the back feel the rest of it with alpaca wool, the tighter you fill it to the driver the more pronounced the lower high frequencies will be

    Unfortunately, I had to return my S300's to Buchardt. They demanded too much distance from wall boundaries to sound good in the low end.
    These BRO3's seem to have the same dimensions and general design, but front ported. Can we expect S300 level of soundstage and visceral experience at a lower price point?

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 лет назад +5

      Did you try plugging the ports of the S300's? They respond remarkably well to that when it comes to wall-boundary placement. Anyhoo, the short answer is that the S300 is the better all-around loudspeaker. You won't get the same level of performance out of the half-priced Triangles. If you want visceral and clean bass near a wall, you may have to go with speakers that were designed specifically for wall-boundary placement. Audio Note (UK), Guru, Sjofn, will likely work better for you - as front ports don't mean a whole lot when it comes to how bass loads a room.

    Great review. Best one I have seen in a long time, and I'm delighted to learn of these speakers. I kept thinking back to the early 90's when a Paradigm rep pointed me at some rather large, stand-mounted 2-ways he had in his showroom. I commented "I dunno... a 2-way..." to which he replied "Its hard to beat a good 2-way speaker". So I bought them, connected them to my Sansui AU-717 DC Integrated amp (freq response from 0-200k HZ) and was connected at my brain synapse to the sound. I still remember it, and when I gave those 2-ways to a woman I knew and replaced them with some 4-way Paradigm speaker, I never had that same experience. Needless to say, I am interested in a uniquely killer 2-way and have been looking for months. Maybe these will give me that "connected" feeling again. I know just what you mean when you mention listing to the music from another room. When it sounds good enough to stop you in your tracks as you are busy in another part of the house, its good. Really good. Now let's talk about high-current amps. Izzat IOTA a high-current amp?

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 лет назад +1

      Whats funny is that all these decades later, what that Paradigm rep said still holds true. Only I'd modify the statement nowadays to say: Its hard to eff up a 2-way monitor. :D If you roll the dice on the BRO3's, I hope you find the connection that you're looking for. As for the IOTAVX being a high current amp - by definition, yes. Subjectively, I think it makes for a sublime match with the Boreas.

    What I have noticed in roughly the past 18 months (that I've been paying attention), is that the so called 'lower' end of the audio marketplace has some killer gear.
    Can that gear compete with higher end gear? Generally not. However, the fact remains that consumers no longer need to invest heavily to enjoy 'quality' sound.
    And that's an awesome thing!!
    The price of Triangle out here seems to equate favourably with US prices when they are on special. Whereas typically the price out here is double or more than the US on the majority of audio gear.
    Fair price in the US (imo) & not too shabby out here.

    Thanks for the review, Sean! There are so many good speakers to listen to!! I would like you to compare this BR03 to the Triangle Comete EZ. They got almost the same size and structure except the tweeter.. Comete EZ is over 1k(?) and this BR03 is cheaper but maybe sounds better..? I mean they are maybe equal in sound quality but for the characteristic of highs according to each tweeter they got..

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 лет назад +4

      So I haven't spent any meaningful amount of time with the Comete.. so its tough to say. If the Comete is like the Titus, only bigger.. then I'd say its a different animal. The EZ line takes on more of the classic audiophile sound. The highs are bumped up, the mids are pulled back, and the overall sound is about speed and immediacy. The sound is more resolute, more refined, and more buttoned up than what you get with Borea. Having said that - the Borea has this easy going, well-rounded charm that the EZ line doesn't quite have. Meaning there will be plenty of people who would actually prefer the sound of the smoother, fuller (for the size), less expensive Boreas.

      Thanks for the answer. I was considering buying Comete EZ sometime ago, but ended up not buying it because of that "resolute and buttoned up" manner.. So, I'm leaning toward the Borea BR03 this time!

    Howdy Sean, such a tempting review. What are your thoughts on these speakers vs the LSIM703 bookshelves (they are still hanging out at $450 on clearance). 2 channel music only, no sub option, no movies and smaller side of medium sized room. I'd be using my high current Onkyo 9150 integrated amp and maybe soon upgrading to the Musical Fidelity M3i that is on sale.

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 лет назад

      LSiM 703's are absolutely killer for the 70% off price that they've been selling for. I'd give the slight edge to the Polks on this one. The Borea's will sound a bit smoother on top, a little fuller in the upper midrange, and will lay down a wider soundstage. The Polk's will offer superior build quality, better focus in-between the speakers, and an overall higher-end presentation and give you a bit more insight into whats going on with the recording. Both will have a warm, meaty presentation to them - particularly with bass. Now the Polks will sound best with strong SS gear (like your upcoming M3i), as they need strong current to sound their best. The Boreas can be driven with darn near anything fairly well. Yep. Sorry man - that's a tough one.

      Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply. I really appreciate it. Sounds like both speakers have the general traits that are going to be up my alley. Time to find a coin to flip.

    Wow.Now if you can come up with a $3-5K speaker with this relative performance to price level.Interesting that I am starting think you are like Thomas and tilt towards the soft dome tweeters vs the hard dome sharpies.I agree it's nice that there are so many low cost options.I was blown away at the bang for buck I got out of a pair of Elac B6's I grabbed while on vacation at my cousin's place for $150 (I go visit somebody for a couple of weeks and buy gear just for the trip sick huh?).Recently picked up a pair of LS50's for cheap and am enjoying them in an office setting but tell you what it made me really marvel at the quality of a $500 pair of Monitor Audio Bronze BX'2's I had in their spot before.Yes the goods from cheap hifi aren't the same as he-man rigs but there is a technology and materials "wow" factor to some products which makes them fun on top of delivering the goods.Would love to her these as i have been a Triangle fan since I heard them first at a record store in Paris a way back.Vive La France!!!!

      The performance of sub $1k gear has become absolutely crazy within the past few years. If companies become motivated to achieve the same type of value proposition at the 3k+ tier...then my goodness.. Glad you're having fun with the journey!

    Great review.. I'd love to see a video of what you feel are the best speaker models for different genres.. such as best speakers for Jazz, best speakers for R&B, etc.

    Great video 👍. It's cool seeing someone getting so passionate about the products they are reviewing. By the way, what's your take on Zu Audio Dirty Weekend?
