  • In this video you see a ranking from the worst to the best of all Irish Eurovision entries. The ranking is based on both placements and amount of points. Pause the video during the info-texts in the beginning to read more about how I have calculated the ranking. Feel free to ask any questions!
Ireland debuted in 1965 and succeeded immediately. They have only song once in Irish. They were one of three countries that were able to sing in English, which favoured them, especially in the 90s, when Ireland won four times in five years, a record no one else has achieved. Between 1987 and 1996 Ireland won half of the contests. Ireland has also hosted the contest every following year. Dublin has the record of most hosted Eurovision, having hosted it accurate every Irish victory, except for in 1993 when Millstreet had the honour of hosting - the smallest town to ever host the Eurovision. Between 1994 and 2023 Ireland was the leading champion in amount of victories.
The Irish winning formula of romantic English ballads ended when the televoting was introduced and in the 2000s they have been one of the least successful countries. After only reached the final once in a decade, they finally decided to send something completely different and Bambi Thug screamed Ireland back in the top 10.
