ladies & gentlemen I would like to announce I have scored a bicycle kick on the last day of the season in lunch football until school starts off, & I swear if Garnacho didn't score that bicycle kick then I would get the Puskas instead, but I better at least be nominated, the sad part is I want the teacher to record the whole game, so I could send the video to FIFA since I was panning on getting a bicycle kick, but the teacher said it was still too much work, however I practiced for 2 hours the night before from 5:00-7:00 pm, & it was worth it because when school starts back up I will officially be a legend.
American here. The craziest thing about the Ohtani contract is the deferral. MLB contracts can have a certain amount of a player’s salary deferred, which Shohei did with $68 million of the $70 million he’s due each year. So despite being the best player in the league/world, he’s making $2 million per year for the 10 years he’s signed (2024-2033) and $68 million the next 10 (2034-2043), even if he retires.
Plus if he's not living in Cali when the deferral comes due he skips a lot of tax

There was one video I saw (from Baseball Doesn't Exist) saying almost a month ago that Ohtani was worth $700M because of how much teams make from him. More people watched Angels games in Japan than in the U.S., so they were able to sell the video rights for huge money, and they also got Japanese sponsors who were willing to pay premiums for ad space. With that, the attendance increase, the merch increase, and all sorts of other monetization they can get from Ohtani's presence, he's worth over $100M/yr to a team, which is absolutely bonkers... and he's actually worth MORE to a handful of teams who barely missed the playoffs, because he'd probably be enough to ensure they make the playoffs and get the bonus money teams are guaranteed for postseason play.
And even with all this, it shows just how much of a quality person he is that he went and got this huge contract and went to a team like the Dodgers, and no one is saying anything about him being greedy or anything like that. Guy might legit be one of the most liked players in MLB, and I love that for him.

To be completely honest shohei ohtani doesn't care about money, in the beginning he agreed to play in mlb for minimal pay for couple of years because that was the option for him if he wanted to play in america. He gives all of his money to his mother to manage it and he gets like $1500 of monthly allowance from her. He's really good and chill dude who's incredibly good at baseball and he deserves every penny he gets from this contract.

The point deduction is ONLY if they use a player that isn't registered/allowed to play at any point during the 24 season. So currently as it stands it's only a 6 point deduction.
Granted based on how that teams been run they'll probably fuck up and use someone who isn't registered in the league. However if they just go about their business properly and use players they are allowed to use then they won't have to worry about it.

The game's been a slow dragging mess for ages... but at least this year they finally managed to speed up the game somewhat and added in rules to limit pickoffs, which increased base stealing and made player speed important again. The average length of games is 2:42, which is the first time it's been under 3 hours since 2011, and the lowest it's been in at least 25 years, probably longer. And in 2022, you had 24 players with 20 stolen bases, 6 with 30, and only 1 with 40 SB. Now you had 51 with 20, 18 with 30, 6 with 40, and 3 with 50+, topped by MVP Ronald Acuna Jr with 73, which is the most since 2007.
The game isn't totally gripping people still but... it's definitely better than it was.

@@officialmarcywu He's had a history of being very low-key and frugal. Over in Japan, he stayed in the team dormitories and took a monthly allowance of just a tiny fraction of his salary. Hell, he even came over early and took less money for it because he wanted the challenge and to prove himself.
Personally, I think he's such a quality player and quality person that if he went to the Red Sox (and mind you, I'm a life-long Yankees fan), I'd wish him well and want to see him succeed, and if he won the World Series for them... good on him.
@@JimTheFly i agree shohei ohtani is good for all baseball. the first time i saw him play was when he was i think like 20 or 21 when he was playing for the nippon ham fighters. one of taiwan’s best players at the time dai kang yang played on the same team as him so our cable television showed a lot of their matches. i remember watching him play and he was simply incredible. he broke the pitcher velo record in japan at the age of what like 22 or something, it was outlandish stuff. when he moved to the mlb i was so glad because i knew he was gonna make the game so much more fun to watch, and he did. and it helps that even though i’m personally of the opinion that many athletes have way too big of an ego, ohtani is not one of those people, and he encourages generations to come to play with honesty and humility. i think for a league known as “the show” him having the nickname show time sums up his importance to the game really nicely, that baseball is better with him in it.
