I finished my bag!!!! I made a big mistake but in the words of the Air Force PJs....I improvised, adapted and overcame! I'm going to try another one tomorrow!! Man, it came out NICE!
Good tutorial, being a new craft person of smaller things as my daughter in law told me I should try new things instead of just quilting my quilts! Can't wait to try this! Thank you!!!
As always Jennifer, it's a winner!! I have sooooo many jelly rolls that I can't remember what I ever bought them for..lol. This is without question the perfect project! I particularly love the roll you used, your fabric... gorgeous! Thanks again!!! :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tutorial. The fabric is beautiful. I can not wait to make a lot of these bags from the many Jelly Rolls I have collected. Thank you Jennifer for another wonderful tutorial !!!
Diddo with the comment before mine. I appreciate how you explain where possible mistakes can happen and how to fix them. You are a great instructor. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful fabrics. I am going to use this pattern to make a diaper bag for my granddaughter who is expected next week. I have looked everywhere for a pattern and this looks just like what my dil wants. Thanks!
Great tote bag design Jennifer. I have a few suggestions though: (1) make those seams 1/2” in order to make them stronger; (2) add some stabilizer to the fabric to give the handle more durability and to keep the handle from scrunching together, plus add a X box at the top of strap to reduce stress on the stitching; (3) only use the fusible fleece to just inside of the seams to reduce the bulk; (4) when constructing the lining of the bag make the opening for turning along the bottom seam (it can either be hand stitched close or use a fusible tape): and (5) add fusible interface to those pockets in order to make it easier to put in and remove items easier. Depending on the purpose of the bag you might want to add a side pocket that is lined with fusible vinyl for your foldable umbrella or water bottle.
I just recently stumbled upon your you tube channel as I was searching applique techniques. WOW such enjoyable tutorials. I have watched quite a few already and look forward to watching more. Your channel is now probably one of my favorites.
Hello Jennifer! Thank you for another great tutorial. I love the way you explain the step by step for your projects and how much care you put on every detail. I am a fan! Thanks again!
Wow! Really love this tote. The lining is so nice and the jelly rolls are beautiful!! I really love all the colors and styles and designs soooo much. Your channel is one of my favorites! Thank you for your great teaching style, so calming it is.
I just love this bag ! I started making it yesterday, can hardly wait till I get it finished!! Thank you sooo much for your teaching. You make it easy for this 87 year old to sew again.!
just pieced my strips together for this bag, looking forward to making it. I am planning on adding a tab closure with a magnetic fastener. I would like to see a tutorial for this bag made with a recessed zipper.
Ok, downloading it from the Quilting Guide App doesn't work..But, using a browser & RUclips works! (not sure why)Now, I can start gathering fabrics...thanks for responding!
I love the tote!! I have a question. Would it work out easier to sew on the handles before closing the "tube"? Once the sides are sewn to the front, but not the back yet?
I love this! I'm watching it all the way through first. ON the straps - would it be easier to stitch them before doing sides (when you create the tube.) just a thought. Tomorrow....I'm doing this...

hi my dear , english is not my first language ,, i like exactly this jelly rolls and other fabric you have for this beautiful bag ,,what can i do ??? thank you
I love this bag, I'm excited to make one for myself and daughter. Question - I cut and taped the pattern but it was too short when I laid in on my (7pc) jelly roll strips that I sewed together, is this normal? I'm going to add an eight strip and hope I don't mess up anything. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Teresa - As long as you used a 1/4" seam allowance, your 7 jelly roll strips should measure approximately 14.5" high. This is the height that will fit your pattern. One thing to consider too is if your printer printed the pattern a bit smaller than it should have. Hope this helps :) -Michelle

Couple of measurement questions. How wide is this bag across the bottom/top? Mine seems awfully small! It doesn't look as big as yours.
Hi Sharon! This bag is approximately 20 inches wide and 15 inches tall.
Hmmm...Mine is 15" wide but only 10" tall
HAHA! I figured out why mine were so small!! When I printed out the pattern, somehow I said "shrink it". So what I have for a pattern is 15" wide by 10" tall. Cute but not the big bag like you show. I'll try that next time :D
Oh no lol! The printer strikes again! Glad you figured it out!
the side panels do not match up with the front and back panels. The side panel pattern is shorter. I sewed 2 side panels on and its way off. Had to tear off, now to rethink how to re attach with it looking funky. (

We can't get fusible fleece in the uk, can we?
You can purchase it online from Amazon and most major craft stores will carry it :) Also, if you aren't able to find it, you can use regular batting, pin it in place, then quilt!
Amanda Dempster try sewhot.co.uk, they have a wide range of fleece, batting, stabilizers. For bags I like to use bosal or soft and stable, all of them available in fusible
my local fabric shop sells fusible fleece, try Barnyarns in Ripon he does mail order, I use him a lot, and I think he's cheaper than Amazon
I use soft and stable, but haven't found it in fusible
