I love the fact that people wrote wonderful radio plays just so we could hear the brilliant Flora Robson be her brilliant self. I love everything she’s in.
I loved listening to this radio play. Never heard of these plays from the BBC theatre before - such a treat! Thank you for posting such wonderful shows!
I do love the story ...the very story of the lady and three students of university. The very bond between them is so special and lovely. The lady with her lovely personality as well as decipline had been comfort them.
As ever that was brilliant thank you I wonder in the future if people will remember Maggie Smith and Judi dench dame flora Robson with a towering actress and so are they both
Thoroughly enjoyed this play, the inter-twinning of the generational ages, giving all a new understanding on life , was complex but simplistic at times, very well written
I found this strangely compelling although I seem to be alone in at first feeling it a feast of over written and badly acted stereotypes. Also a disturbing lack of understanding of mental illness. And yet it has a sort of energy in its dealng with the clash of generations and I find myself feelung quite concerned for Dickon's future place in the world. I could identify with this character. So there's clearly more to this than meets the ear and I'll enjoy another listen. Many thanks to the kind person who salvages these radio plays. They are a blessing for insomniacs like me!
I grew up in England after the War. We had no TV, it was considered a real luxury. We had the radio for entertainment and how rich it was. We sat as a family and listened to plays like this one. There were also truly funny comedy shows every week, we looked forward to each one.
How wonderful , my first ever visit to a theatre was to The Flora Robson Playhouse in about 1963 ! ( school culture trip ) those were the days . Now I’m snuggled up in bed , the snow is high and Winter nights just get better.....Thanks for the Memories 😊❤️
Loved every minute of this play, even though it was written with a different generation in mind. Totally relaxing for a lovely afternoon,s or evening's entertainment
Just an amazing experience listening to this exquisite play so well performed by the actors. Thank you to whoever made it available. You've made an old man very happy. ;))))
Thank you Chesterton.... this is a wonderful and "modern" drama (for the time) featuring Dame Flora Robson in a specially written drama for her. She plays an author living in an old house built in the 15th century and catering for three individual university students in their final year...and all their prevailing issues. Surprisingly modern for Dame Flora but, if I could remind listeners, she also worked with Morecambe and Wise. Recommended. NB....cast list at the end. Check Genome (source) too.
Thanx Dear Uncle Chesterton.....I really enjoyed that one. Dame Flora is always so wonderful and engaging to listen to !....oh and BTW-please give all My and Lottie's best to Auntie Elvira for us.
💙Dame Flora! I believe there were others written for her. (heard some of "The Dame Flora Fest" on ABS or one of our many dearly departed chs, way back when😿) Margo Boyd's cameo, excellent of course! CH def knew how to leave us wanting more! Easily a multi epi series & a screenplay. No spoilers here but...How about 1:10.ish !?👏 Hope if a similar RL sitch ever happens... please let me remember 1:11! 😹
Excellent play thought provoking, and very well acted and the different Personalities were perfectly portrayed,😊 only spoilt slightly by the vile girls behaviour🤨

I rarely leave comments, but this audio play was just one of the best! Adored it... not the usual crime drama or romance. Thank you so much Mr C!!
I have never commented before but want say what a great play! Thank you
RUclips has too many bland comments. I thoroughly agree with yours. Quality not quantity!
You are right! Not the usual crime!
I normally don't shed a tear listening to short stories. I really loved this..
The folly of the young. Very good theatre, the meeting and mergin of two different generations. Thumbs up!

I too appreciate plays without that list as well!
The story ought to be enough on its own merits.
Well I heard some shocking language.
I was..well,shocked.
So agree with you.
You said it perfectly😊

Very engaging tale of an aging writer's encounter with the younger generation. Sensitive listeners should have a handkerfchief close at hand.
Wow what a play, excellent story and fantastically played characters, thank you
I'm looking forward to listening to this at bedtime. At 64yrs which age bracket do I fall into? lol. Regards, Dave

Well-done, Charlotte Hastings and All!
When i was 17 I thought my parents were idiots and now at twenty Im amazed at how much they have learned. Mark Twain

Flora was unique!
If you want to know how to act listen to Flora Robson you can't get any better than that
Couldn’t Ms Hastings write a sequel 😥?🙏🏾
I don't think a sequel could ever live up to this
❤️❤️
Excellent play thought provoking, and very well acted and the different Personalities were perfectly portrayed,😊 only spoilt slightly by the vile girls behaviour🤨
This supports my never wanting to have anyone move in.
Is flora robson the shizzy or what!@ crazy talented woman😊
Flora Robson was once as big as Judi Dench is now.
Did anyone else think maybe dickens was charles dickens in his youth? Or am I dreadfully mistaken?
Do you mean a reincarnation? Charles Dickens early life was exactly the opposite of Dicken in the play.
Thank you for all these wonderful radio dramas. My sister and I are in Israel and really enjoy them. Our book club members also enjoy them
Dreadfully mistaken l am afraid🤔
Mistaken.
When was this play written?
Why couldn't he make brass musical instruments?
I believe Mary had only 1 Son. .Jesus !!!!
I know you will never see this but James was the brother of Jesus... a son of Mary.
He had many brothers and sisters
A bit dated. We no longer react in contemptuous fear to radical students, nor portray them as always foul-mouthed layabouts. I hope...
With student fees instead of grants they can't afford to be rebellious!
They haven't changed my daughters just left uni
The sound of a typewriter really took me back. I couldn't have taken much of Dickon Im afraid.
5 minutes of Dickon was as much as I could take. Rather sad that Dame Flora
should end up in drivel like this.
Lovely story
