Hi folks Saints fan here. I'm also a Sean Payton fan. Make a list of all the people that criticized Payton in Denver . That way when the season ends you know the people that don't know football. It takes 2 years to build a team. 3 for yours because of Wilson . Anyway good luck I cheer for Denver to. Except when they come to New Orleans ....Who Dat!!

Favorite play was either the Tim Patrick first down that he later got flagged for taunting on or the Blake Watson TD. Regardless of the back, watching our struggles punching the ball in over the last 5 years or so, watching that was a breath of fresh air.

Bo is solid because he has solid fundamentals. He is going to be good in the NFL. I watched him for two years at Oregon and he is systematic in his approach. Oregon's offense helps QB's like Nix and Herbert be very efficient in the NFL.

    • @MarkLewis-l3f
      @MarkLewis-l3f 2 месяца назад

By "Oregon's offense" you mean the Gus Malzahn No Huddle-Hurry Up philosophy that prevents defenses from being able to freely substitute. That is what they ran with both Kenny Dillingham & Will Stein...Malzahn disciples. Jordan Palmer, who trained Jarrett Stidham when he came out of the same exact system at Auburn & was drafted by the Patriots, said that he had NEVER seen a QB who was less prepared by his college system to play QB in the NFL. That offense not only artificially inflates the numbers for QBs, but when married to Air Raid spread concepts it magnifies that advantage. Mix in a clear talent advantage in terms of speed on the perimeter...what Oregon has always been known for over the last 20 years...plus the wider field that turns the horizontal passing game into an even bigger threat...& you have a system that does exactly the opposite of what you're saying.
Bo showed some of this on Sunday. Watch two of his runs. He had receivers open downfield that he didn't see. He made the wrong read on the first pass that he almost had picked. He checked down or threw almost exclusively either to the sidelines or passes at or on either side of the LOS within a few yards. He completed nothing over the middle past the sticks, & his mechanics were BAD. Several times he threw off platform when there was no need for it & his accuracy suffered noticeably as a result.
Will all this be magically fixed in 2 weeks? I have major doubts about that.

My favorite play was every play where he stepped up in the pocket. I really liked how he guided the offense post and pre snap, something we have not seen since Manning. Good QB's are the coach on the field, and Bo clearly embraces that role and his teammates obviously relish this leader. The whole thing, however casual it was, was refreshing. "When was the last time I saw the Broncos with 1:20 left do anything good?"
That would be November 19, 2023 when Russell Wilson drove them 75 yards in 2 minutes & 14 seconds to score the winning TD against the Vikings with 1:03 left on the clock. That took us to 5-5 on the season after the terrible start. Unfortunately after beating Cleveland the next week, they lost 4 of 6 down the stretch as the defense gave up almost 30 points a game in the 4 losses.

He looked great ! And if you’re not learning every play and every game you don’t belong in the NFL . WR’s need to get aggressive and get the pig ! RB’s need to protect the pig! And the penalty’s need to be gone and we are on the way!

his throwing mechanics look a bit choppy to me for some reason, and you can tell where he's going to pass to. other than that he was great, and those things can be fixed. zach looked great as well.

I thought Nix’s passes were snappier and well placed, more so than the other QBs, even the incompletions.
As he gets more time with the speed of the game and delivers 1st down after 1st down, his “it” factor will be allowed to bloom.

    1. Stidham is what he is: basically a reincarnated Brock Osweiler. Uninspiring and scared to push the ball past the sticks
    2. Nix looked phenomenal
    3. Wilson impressed against the 3rd stringers. A situation in which he absolutely should dominate.
Even with only 2 drives, Stidham looked like the prototypical Broncos QB, post-Manning. Boring and predictable.

Ben...go back & look at each pass. Almost every one was either a check down, a designed swing pass out of the backfield to a back or TE near or behind the LOS, or it was outside the hash marks. That is EXACTLY what Russell Wilson was being constantly criticized for. Of the three I saw that were not, his first one hit the Colts corner in the stomach & should have been an easy INT. On that play he had a wide open receive at the 48 yard line...which is what Wilson took hell for...not seeing open receivers. That was the proper read sir. His second pass could have been picked also, but he threw it into the ground. You noted that he was "throwing off platform", but what you did not notice is that HE HAD NO REASON TO DO THAT! He was in no danger of taking a sack. He should have planted his feet & set himself to drive the ball. It doesn't MATTER if you step up in the pocket if your mechanics sucks. That is why the ball was in the turf. On the 3rd pass over the middle, the deep ball was overthrown. If you see something else...let me know.
The vast majority of the yardage he threw for was gained after the fact by receivers & backs operating against the Colts 2nd unit defense. Much of it was also gained when the Colts were playing a soft pass prevent zone & playing off the LOS several yards, a fact noted more than once by the Indy TV announcers.
Conversely...find a mistake that Jarrett Stidham made. He didn't make ANY. He also wasn't given a real chance to play, which is what I think we all knew was coming. Stidham got two series, & his time was cut short when Perine's bobbled pass added an INT to his stats that Stidham did not deserve. This is apparently not a real competition. The starter gets two series, then gets pulled for something that was not even close to his fault. None-the-less...he will be criticized now for playing an error free game against the Colts 1st team defense while Nix gets to bask in the glory of an average outing playing against backup players.
All this said...I'm NOT down on what I saw from Nix today. It's what I EXPECT from any rookie QB, especially in his first game. But then I don't expect him to go from this to starting caliber QB in the next 3 weeks like you do.. Therefore, it's just fine with me that he made some mistakes. It's even fine that he couldn't complete anything in the middle of the field. I don't WANT him to be throwing into the teeth of a defense if he can't read it properly. Don't you think that is why Payton didn't call plays for him to do that? Think about it...that's exactly why.
There was nothing unusual about what I saw from Nix today. It was similar to what I saw from Teddy Bridgewater, & VERY similar to what I saw from Russell Willson. But that is not who he is supposed to be is it? He's supposed to be the savior of the franchise. I don't need to see that from him. I'm happy to see he's just a guy who will need developing like any other rookie. Why? Because the guy Sean Payton won the Super Bowl with ALSO NEEDED THAT.
And that is good enough for me.

I appreciate the nuance here for sure. I just feel like Nix scored on all his possessions other than the Krull fumble and his "checkdowns" were all in time so the receiver could make a play. Russ's checkdowns were after the routes had been run and so the defense was coming back and pouncing on the play but I definitely agree with some of your Stidham points. Very well thought out take.

@@SportsTalkDenver The primary factor in all four of Bo's scoring drives was the way the OL consistently opened holes in the run game. The ground attack is how he moved the ball, & two of the drives were aided by critical PI penalties on the Colts, one on a deep ball that put them into scoring position. It's nice when that happens, but it shouldn't be taken as an indicative factor to consider in looking at his game performance.
What I see is a guy who has issues with mechanics, issues with seeing the field, issues with coming off his primary or secondary read at times, & has to demonstrate that he is capable of being a truly viable threat to the middle of the field beyond the short zone 10 yards past the LOS. All of that is what YOU yourself say you had a problem with related to Russ.
None of these issues actually bothers me however. Why? Because I've never thought it wise to start ANY ROOKIE QB. Yes...occasional outliers exist like Peyton Manning or Burrow or Stroud. I find it noteworthy that among those outliers you won't find the names Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers.
Should Bo be considered more ready than they were??? That's a huge risk my friend. If he fails, there is no going back to Stidham. We saw what happened when Uncle Vic did that with Drew Lock. If you REALLY believe in Nix....consider that protecting his future here is worth the wait.
