My Dad loved Merle, the record player was in our kitchen, Mom would cook dinner, I was record changer, Dad drinking a beer on back porch, would sit beside him and we would sing Merle Haggard Songs together! Wonderful memories!
Traveled through Muskogee about 1971, had long hair and a beard, stopped fill up with gas, went into station to pay, there was several old men setting on benches along wall, I asked to buy a quart of oil, there was a variety of cans on the wall, the man running the station said we don't have any, I pointed out the cans on the wall and he said we don't sell oil to your kind boy so I guess the song was pretty accurate, the old men enjoyed it, I didn't much at the time
Wished Ben had a band like the strangers. A band can make or break u. Especially silly antects of some. I would rather have harmony..and the band members not so goofy. Merle would never would allow that...just my opinion
If Ben is going to become relevant in country music he needs to either write his own songs or have other song writers pitch him new songs. Stop playing your Dad's songs and sing your own. Just my opinion.
Correct!. He simply will not carve a good career for himself just playing his father’s music. There will only be 1 merle haggard. His brother noel sounds & looks more like merle anyway. You would have thought ben would be aware of that important fact, but obviously not!.
