      Yeah that's what I thought. That it even came close it's pretty awesome and considering the rough and bumpy state of the track and how sandy it was the motorbikes extra weight was obviously helping. Around a more solid track the results may of even been closer. The E- bikes were keeping up with the petrol bikes in the red bull rhythm race I saw too.

    I have 4 surrons and two RevX bikes in my garage and the surrons are a blast and can be a ton of fun. The RevX bikes are more purpose driven and cannot be compared to the surrons as they are in a different league all together and would give this video a completely different outcome. The torque on the electric bikes is what allows them to cover ground much better than any gas bike. No shifting or trying to anticipate corners or late or early braking. The tires and suspension change ebikes to instantly be a real player and handle any terrain. The RevX comes fully outfitted to be race ready from the ground up so when it cost double the surron you are getting the best bang for your buck. Just wanted to share as I have been riding the last 40yrs and always get the latest and greatest bikes. Once the ebike market goes mainstream the gas bike market will never be the same. The only benefit gas has to me is the range and down time is less. Unless you have spare batteries to just swap out when one is done. I love gas and electric and enjoy the evolution of both platforms.

    for this kind of riding the sur-ron might be fine, but if the track opens up a bit, then the ktm will 'wake up' and just pull miles ahead. For me thats the fun stuff, so I cant see myself switching until they are 30+hp and can run for 2-3 hours on a charge. Many thanks though for keeping us updated on their evolution.

      @scottwall8419 4 года назад

      @@sn0wchyld that's possible. Not sure if surron has a higher output lithium ion battery pack available or not. But in theory there is more power to be gained from better batteries, especially with torque which could be good or bad for dirt biking depending on if the controller is advanced enough to handle the sensitivity guys need out on some hairy trails.

    • @sn0wchyld
      @sn0wchyld 4 года назад

      @@scottwall8419 nah its really only with aftermarket stuff. Battery needs upgrading because the cells are too weak to support much more power than stock, controller needs upgrading because the motor wakes up with more phase amps (controller is what I've done to mine so far). I haven't ridden enough ICE bikes to know what it 'feels' like now but it makes the stock bike feel like its slow and heavy, despite the new controller not drawing that much more power (only about 15%)... newer controller has better power delivery too, feels safer and easier to ride despite ~2-3x the torque.

    Makes sense the Sur Ron is a tad slower since the KTM weight helps soften and smooth the terrain environment where the Sur Ron has a lot more verticality influence for that same terrain. So there are trade offs. That said, there is a great opportunity to press ahead will non-fossiled dirt riding since that is always better for the environment and helps each of us to know we are doing our part and at the same time not compromising fun factor.

I ride enduro/ trails in Australia on a ktm 350 exc-f and I can get 180kmh out of a tank depending on terrain. Maybe a bit more info on the overall package not just how quick or how they handle. I actually own a YZ250 and a Sur Ron X. I LOVE the Sur Ron for quick solo rides, or terrain that I probably shouldn't take the dirt bike in (close to neighbors). The silence of the Sur Ron is it's biggest plus.
    After that, it looses on every count. In the woods, you get 20 miles of range! A 125+ will smoke it. On the 250-450s we run avg trail speeds of 40-45mph. The Sur Ron at best gets 30mph.
    It's great for what it is, but comparing it to a Dirt Bike is comparing my lifed golf cart to my Tesla. Just not the same category.
    I'm about to put 2500 into the Sur Ron to see if I can get it closer on range and hole shot, but at that point, I'll have more into it than the YZ250

      The Sur ron front suspension is about as dumbed down as you can get! Seriously a USD fork for under $200 = Pony. If Fox made a USD it would be more like $1500 although at least it would be good. The KTM is riding on Factory MX suspension which is light years ahead, literally light years, so yes 100% agree, some work to be done for sure. Would love to see how a Factroy tricked out Sur Ron would compare. Less than 15 seconds me thinks, but super impressive nonetheless.

    A pro circuit CR 125R would do a sub 3:40 lap time because you could be on the pipe much more as a % of the lap time. The suspension is really the difference. The KTM has years of suspension technology while the Surons just came out. Yes they are lighter and hence more nimble/flicKable but the ebikes will soon beef up their suspension and power and then it will be no match.

      @@mazoviaadv5536 Agreed there are many situation where the KTM would crush the Surron X, but no one claims a Surron X to be a track bike. It's a playbike...that happens to be able to keep up with a KTM Factory Edition (within 6%) on this particular offroad trail. This comparison was at the request of many viewers that were just curious how they compared.
      Surron X shine for tight, twisting singletrack (where they would actually be faster than the KTM) and not a track or open sections where any ICE dirtbike would eat the surron alive. They are also great for slower forest service road group rides. I get about 25 - 35 miles range out of my Surron X on those types of rides. Only 20 mile range if I'm really, really hotrodding in tight, on and off the throttle and hilly trails going as fast as I can in Sport mode. These are for totally different types of rides and I still take my ICE dirtbikes for 60% - 70% of my rides. But this little surron sure has been fun. Enough that I'm now looking for a fullsize E-moto. If I has a fullsize chassis E-moto that had a solid 60 mile range taking it easy in an eco mode or 40 mile range riding aggressively, I'd be riding that for 80% of my rides.
      Oh, and the Surron brakes may only be MTB components, but the bike only weighs 110 pounds so they slow and stop really good. I agree it would be interesting to see a braking test between a SurronX and various dirtbikes. I think they would come out pretty much the same in braking distance.

    Sur-ron is owned by ninebot which also owns Segway. Segway has a version of this machine that - I think - has an uprated suspension. It also has swapppable batteries and an adjustable frame. Head to head test?

    • @MrChadx1
      @MrChadx1 4 года назад

      The segway is just a rebranded Surron. No differences except segway is also going to offer a second version with smaller battery and lower suspension. Oh, and segway is making claims of very very unrealistic battery ranges last time I checked. I contacted them on it and mentioned they were setting up their pre-order customers to be very upset because they were going to get half the range (in best case scenario) than what segway was claiming. They said they were still "evaluating final specs". I didn't look to see if segway ever changed the specs to more realistic values. Oh, and the segway was going to cost about $2,000 more...for the same bike just rebranded. One should very much consider buying a Surron X from Lunacycle and either pocketing the extra money or using it for fork and shock upgrades or controller upgrades, etc.

      ....or going for a 35 miles forest service road ride in the mountain like I did all last year. Or 20 mile, hardcore, fast singletrack rides or OHV rides. I still love my ICE dirtbikes, but this little Surron X has me hooked on electric so I'll be buying a fullsize electric dirtbike in the next year. The new, nearly-fullsized Surron Storm looks promising. KTM freeride E-XC is nice. Zero FX would have the most range with the big 7.2 battery pack (100+ miles at 30mph). More options every week. Electric is definitely a lot more than a backyard or home track type bike ...but yes, they are also idea for home tracks because you can ride them without making a bunch of noise. Plus, each new brand, or version within a brand, of E-moto has dramatic improvements/advancements where the advancements in ICE bikes has plateaued. Small refinements, tiny hp improvements or weight savings every few years, but no big leaps that I've seen and I buy new ICE dirtbikes every few years.
