I have learned so much from your videos and I am glad you talk us through exactly what you are doing. I know we would watch these videos of your's even if they were 3 or 4 hours long.
What I love about your videos and instruction Doug is that you’re not just showing how to carve the caricature, but providing a “method” or “guide” for overall carving. That’s what most of us need. An approach that lets us go off in many directions. In this one, using the “finger” measuring method just shows how flexible and arbitrary a carver can be and still get great results. This guy must hand extremely strong hands. It took me 20-30 cuts to his one cut. I finished the project in 25 hours with one cut finger and two blisters and my carving looked nothing like the one he did. I have new respect for knife carvers.
i've watched four of your videos back to back so length is no problem , you have a very pleasent way of speaking which is very easy to listen to. and another great job , cant for the sun to come up so i can get some branches , i have woods full of good ones , little man looks like an irish mine supeviser from the 1800's . once again thank you for the upload ,,, great stuff

First..You are who i watch to learn how to carve and I greatly appreciate that you put your videos out.. At a certain point you say to thin the head down all the way around.. So i do.. Then when i start the video back up you say.. OK we have the three sides done.. doh ! Scrap that piece..Keep up the good work.. I look foward to each and every video..
I like the tutorial videos. Seeing you carve out an arm isn’t the same without you telling us why. Your dimensions in metric finger widths are so easy to follow. 😂 I love to carve, but I need practice and confidence. Your videos inspire me to at least give it a try. I carved an old wizard looking face on a walking stick last week. It’s probably not all that good, but I’m very proud of it. Thank you and keep making the great videos (with talking). 😉

Thank you sir, I'm new to whittling, you got me hooked on this hobby after I cut down 3 small password trees and recognized what they were, so I went out and bought a couple knives, I haven't stayed up this late since my honeymoon, if I may suggest just one thing, you know there's always just one thing, but if you could show the finished product all the way around you would certainly help me to know where I'm going before I start, just a little better, thank you again so much!
Your lighting has definitely gotten better, the wood does not dazzle near as much, and you can see pencil lines from far more angles now. As always, your videos are very inspiring and cozy here late at night before bedtime in Denmark.

Doug, great video. Thank you. Some perspective, I know as an educational or how to video it is not necessary to make a video of each variety, but... I work long hours and rarely get a lot of time to carve. I do however take a few minutes here and there to watch you carve. It lowers my stress and scratches the carving itch a little. Anyway, I just lime watching you carve, an hour plus video is fine with me. Thanks again, you serve as more than as a teacher. Just my 2cents.

It is difficult to stop a video exactly when you stop whittling and show where you are at in the process. A Beginner who loves your work.
You always inspire me to improve Doug. Repurposed my old desktop computer hutch into a dedicated carving hutch this week. Waiting on the Amazon truck to deliver an under cabinet LED light. A good thing that came out of the stay at home quarantine is I believe my carving is improving due to more practice at it. Thanks !!!
