Really hoping for bike infrastructure in the next couple of months, and hopefully as a part of the core game for everyone to enjoy, not DLC. That would really heighten this Amsterdam build. Loving the game, and I see Cities Skylines 1 is on sale for 70% off on stream. I have it on console, but I can’t see going back to CS1, unless no bike infrastructure is added for a few months.
Nice build! Hopefully in the furture a more realistic “Dutch canel-style” mod/DLC will come. Like the content packs they are making right now for other European cities
I would think is a future patch and of course mod. They are very busy still focusing on bugs and haven't had the time to think about the suggestions on the forums.
@@CODTerracraft Shouldn't need mods for things that should be in game. It's crazy they're even hosting a video on their channel that highlights a workaround for something that should have come at launch.
Ironic that you guys do a video on a topic that heavily requires quay walls, in a game that doesn't even support quay walls without strange hacks. Either way, nice video.
@@prestongarvey7014it is easier, but i think it could be easier with mod/tool which could give you option to turn the road into a "canal"/road with wall without wasting a lot of time fighting with walls when game dont want to create it.
I still don't get, why one can't active decide to have retaining walls. There should be a native way to force them like in the unofficial mod. This would also help with the annoying zoning issues.
as a native amsterdammer this is just awesome to see! i'm excited to see how much we can elevate creations like this with contributions from the modding community!
Oh hell yeah that will looks so good with the skyscrapers! For extra difficulty you can try doing some multilevel street layout stuff with stacked roads maybe? ;)
how can you have Amsterdam-styled anything without bike infrastructure?? Quay networks were good enough in CS1, seems like they're also will be in DLCs
as a dutchman im dissapointed at how basic and limited the options are atm. hope over time we get a stone sloped quay as i tend to see the current quays as steep vertical cliffs.. aspecially if they end up to high above the water.
a stone texture instead of concrete would do 100% for the looks. No quays in cities in the Netherlands (!) are made of concrete. Hardly even to find in harbours.
The city build by TeddyRadko, awesome as allways, one of the best creators out there. But the tools? Let's do something better. Using "exploits" to create quay streets, bridges and so it's not the way when there are already mods that allow them. Add the features to the base game!
That looks great, but there is no *way* I have the patience to fart around with that when there’s the advanced road tools mod (which I thoroughly recommend)
I think that's nice because I wanted to know how it works with the water and then go into the country and generally build a city. Thanks for the explanation, I'd like to know more about it I would be happy to explain tricks on how you can build beautiful things as a beginner where you don't have to limit yourself at the beginning but rather have fun with it. Thank you for more of it 👍😉❤️
I find some of the road height limitations to be annoying (when it wants the quay to be higher than it would be). Forcing developer mode to ignore the building limitations had made that so much more useful. Especially for edging buildings into space when there would be a void
or you could just make it so we can place roads next to the water without the underwater notification, this was in cs1, why is this looked over so much.
Really hope so. Zoning is terrible. Can't believe they haven't improved it since the first game many years ago. Why does every lot have to be square too? Zoning on curved roads looks bad as all the buildings are square so leaves bad gaps that the game should automatically fill with walls, bushes, props etc but doesn't.
Literally all I want from this game is for it to become a Not Just Bikes simulator, so this is very exciting to see. Not just that canals look a bit easier in 2 than they were in 1, but also that Colossal Order seem aware of the orange-pilled elephant in the room of modern city design.
1:00 guys just remove the in water thingy... This is a bug not a feature. And make an keep absolute level toggle for roadbuilding Also for asymmetrical roads fix the bug where the retaining wall switches to the wrong side when changing the street direction, it's very anoying 🙄
Oh that upgrade switch issue us annoying. you can try to get around it by first upgrading to a symmetrical road while also switching direction before switching.iirc i had some success that way
4:08 I like the creator, but this is just bs. This shouldn't be a nice feature in one category of building. It absolutely HAS to exist in EVERY category!!
True, tiny pavement paths are a legit option also for this but it may be abit more tricky bc you cant use the replace wider roads trick but still great idea!
@@metasamsara haha good point. Already completely lost all faith in the devs to provide a decent game with good quality of life features. Game's so disappointing :(
Would be so cool to change the type of pavement for the roads. Non of the small roads in inner cities in Holland are asphalt. Especially not next to canals.
Does this mean Paradox is going to work on a new industry type called "Adult Entertainment" and when mixed used building spawn with the industry the ground floor has a red glow?
Those quay's are way too high tho, very unrealistic, the canels aren't as high as 2,5x stacked trucks. Like falling of a small cliff when a cim would jump off.
Toggle individual buildings copy paste the same building features will be very useful if want to build a “checkerboard concept” city. Please add the mod
this would make a lot more sense IF CITIES SKYLINES ADDED BIKES AND PROTECTED BIKE LANES WHYYYYYY DID YOU NOT ADD THEM C:S THEY ARE CRUCIAL!!!! :((((((((((((((
I do believe Dunkirk's canal are more beautiful than Amsterdam's ones, and you should have based your maps on them instead. Anyhow, thanks for the tips.
Sort of. The major limitation is that CS1 quays were a separate thing that couldn't be too close to roads, so it was impractical (without mods) to have quay-side roads like this. The downside in CS2 is that quays are a styling of roads, so while it makes this kind of thing much easier, it means you can't have quays that *aren't* roads.
If you look at Venice itself (and Amsterdam, but less so), there are a lot of building right up to the water's edge - no road or path in between. Is there a way to make that happen in the game?
not saying that developers should not incorporate this possibility, but Dutch buildings along the canals are in general not build this way. They will have roads for travel by bike and a road designed for travel by car besides, the use of this car road being discouraged by the fact that you cant get far by car and you will have to pay a premium for parking space

Very Nice. But I would like a feature to Toggle/Force Briges/Elevated Road and Quay Walls. Also some dragable Quays like in CS1 would be great.

a stone texture instead of concrete would do 100% for the looks. No quays in cities in the Netherlands (!) are made of concrete. Hardly even to find in harbours.
You know what also make quays easier? In game quays. Way easier than in game jank.

Sadly the water can't easily be made higher like in CS1 and still the water is too wild... We need more small waters, for next to roads etc.
