I'm only interested in the potential reboot because of Chad Stahelsky and Henry Cavill. Otherwise I'd say "do not touch this beloved franchise you fool". Cheers from France! 🍻
The Quickening lightning effects on the tv show were hand painted, every cell, no computer CGI involved at all. The sparks were basic firework pyrotechnics used at rock concerts.
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up Adrian Paul’s TV show, Tracker, from the early 2000’s. That was an interesting show, even though it lasted for only one season. I’m almost done rewatching it on Tubi, and I gotta say, that might be a show worth making an episode about.
Highlander II may very well be the worst sequel ever made. It was so bad, in fact, that the third Highlander film not only pretended that the second never happened, but effectively made it so it never could have happened.
"Here we are, born to be kings with the princes of the universe!" Fell in love with Queen, and discovered the R-rated movie OG movie after as a kid because of this show. It will always have a place in my heart. Cheers from France! 🍻
Endgame was actually great if you watch the original film, the series and that as the wrap. Skip the rest. Cant wait to see what Cavil and the John Wick helm will do
Thanks for not being the only one who doesn't like the full version of the Queen song. I love this show because it explores how it would feel to live so long you lose everyone you love.
The album A Kind Of Magic is still one of my all time favorites because of this show and later discovering the movie. This album being the non-official OST of the movie. Thanks for making this video. Cheers from France! 🍻
This was just such an incredible series and yes, Season 2 saved it from the heap bin. Loved the introduction of the Watchers will helped to bring in the back stories of all the different immortals. It also helped that there several smaller arcs within the larger arcs. The series was so well done, I don't think it can be replicated.
They had a chance to do an amazing...epic...filled with over five thousand years of mythology greatness...TV show centered around Methos and didn't. I'll never understand that....
Back in 1997, I picked up Queen’s Album “A Kind of Magic” because it’s basically the Soundtrack for Highlander. Which hadn’t been released at the time or at least I couldn’t find it.
How can you talk about the Highlander series and then not mention that one episode with the immortal kid? That one was incredible and kinda creepy too! Highlander the raven was in fact really trash! And I have no hope for the unnecessary reboot!
There was two episodes with the immortal kid, played by Myles Ferguson, named "Kenny". The real creepiness of this is that, in the story, Kenny lied and said he died in a car accident then, tragically and quite spooky, in real life the actor who played him, Myles, died in a car accident. Always terrible when anyone dies but even more so in Myles case as he was not only still young but he's really done a very large and amazing amount of work as an actor. He did a great job in everything he was in including the two episodes of Highlander.
@@Inevitable_Truth1 No, no, I thank you actually because I was thinking through the whole video that it was kinda sad Myles/Kenny wasn't mentioned so I searched the comments to see if anyone else felt that way. So your comment made my day. I think Kenny was , in a lot of ways, one of his toughest enemies. It was also a great Duncan struggling with his ethics episode which I always thought was the best whenever he struggled with his moral code in the series. I feel personally that the world could really use a show like this now with Duncan's strict code and morals. Kenny was definitely a difficult enemy and played excellently by Myles too. Thanks for making the original comment and giving me the opportunity to go on about a series I really love and a character that deserves to be highlighted.
Loved the original movie and the tv show. I still have the dvds and the highlander card game. I like Duncan more than Connor but perhaps that because we got more lore and character development from the series. RIP Stan Kirsch.
You are absolutely correct when you say that princess of the universe by Queen goes off the rails. But then you find out that give me the price is the best song
Adrian Paul at that time resembled a young Sean Connery a bit. The original film is so damn good & this series was different than movie but very enjoyable.
I do find it fascinating how many versions of each of the Theatrical films there are. Would be fun if they released a complete set that had every cut of each film..... I don't believe the Theatrical Cut of Highlander: Endgame even got a home release.
One of my favorite action series. I see everything from the first episode through Highlander Endgame as an alternate universe from any of the theatrical films.
The original movie casting was very weird. A French man playing a Scotsman and a Scotsman playing a Spanish man. If they just had Connery play MacLeod, they would have been half right lol. Of course he was too old by then but surely they could have got a more convincing guy to play Conor. Someone with even a slightest hint of a Scottish accent maybe...
I was not a big fan of the genre and almost didn't make it through series season 1 because of the reasons you noted. I'm glad I stuck around because seasons 2-5 weren't just good Highlander.......they were good television. As all this was pre-DVR, I missed season 6 due to work commitments and missed the final season. Turns out I didn't miss anything with season 6, and that's a good thing.
HighLander Film a classic with a classic soundtrack and the TV Series also so dam good i was young when the Film came out Dad rented it from the Video Store.⚔👍
Loved the first film, in denial about the existance of the following films. The TV show was great, real shame its spin off Highlander Raven failed, it was terrible but I was a smidge infatuated with Elizabeth Gracen, should never of gone blonde, sigh. Thanks for making this
I am also a huge fan of the movies and shows and I had to turn this off the moment you mispronounced a name that is said many times in the TV show. At no point during (at least the English language version) of the show is Peter Wingfield’s character called “Metaas”. Regardless of how the name might be pronounced outside of Highlander, the character’s name is Methos and is pronounced “ME-th-oh-s”.
The Kurgan was already immortal when he killed Connor for the first time. Immortals can detect if another person has the potential to become immortal. He wanted to kill and eventually behead Connor to steal his power. 1:40 calling him MORTAL is incorrect. His original death, was in 970 BC.
I always thought a good origin would have been the gods of old, or even the Abrahamic god, was told by the devil (or equivalent) that his cherished creation was a failure. And that man is forever doomed to be evil and selfish etc etc. So they basically made a bet and the immortals were put into place like a board game. The whole light and dark quickening would even help this because the winner of the gathering, is only gonna be one or the other. Evil, from absorbing and feeding on it, or good. The whole immortality thing would simply be because to a god a mortals life is a blink so....in like 50 years or so most combatants would be dead or die before ever crossing another immortal realistically.
I sat in on a panel awhile back at Sacramento Comic-Con, and Adrian Paul did go on about how the Quickening was heavily compared to an orgasm, and that was how they filmed them.
Duncan over Connor Forever.... I was so disappointed when Raven came out. A good character from a good show... squandered. Edit: Can you tell I thought this was about Raven and commented before watching? 😂
Hard to believe you were a fan of the show when you repeatedly mispronounce Methos. Even my wife who only watched it occasionally commented on your constant mispronouncing of the name.
If I had to do an origin for the immortals. I would make them the fallen Angels or the nephilim that survived that Noah's flood. Because in the book of Enoch there is a passage that talks about God making the fallen Angels kill each other as their punishment for defining God.
I always rewatch highlander the series when it appears on Amazon etc. its such a shame that most of the movies in the franchise were pretty poor as the series is good IMO.
If they had asked me a decade ago about a Highlander reboot, I would have been on board suggesting Antonio Banderas as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez and because of his work on the "Zorro" franchise, he'd know swords. I would have suggested Gerard Butler as Connor MacLeod because he is also good with swords from being in "300" and could easily do multiple accents to show a passage of time from Scottish to generic American. Ask me today about a remake and I'd send 10 minutes cursing you out. I am so sick and bucking tired of the creative bankruptcy from Hollywood. Literally just bucking stop remaking every bucking franchise out there. JUST STOP.
Simple formula for success for any reboots/sequels/whatevers; Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't get twisted up with some contrived amd convoluted origin or explanation of the immortals. All you need is that they exist, and there can be only one. Everuthing else is superfluous. Any future Highlander project should be to swordfights what Johm Wick is to shootouts.
Loved this show and have it and Raven on DVD, but yeah, Raven was pretty shit to be honest. No insult to Liz Gracen who I have met a few times and she is one of the nicest, warmest people you could ever hope to meet, but she was given a crap hand with Raven. As for Highlander the series, yes, season 1 and 6 are by far the worst of the bunch. Jim Byrnes I first saw in the tv show Wiseguy playing the lifeguard as he was called in the show as he was the lifeline the undercover agents used if they were in trouble or needed help. Adrian Paul, well, met him twice at conventions (I used to do security for UK cons back in the day) and he was an arrogant bastard both times. He refused to do more than one Q&A with the fans and only made it to the events because he stopped in on his way to other places but demanded a full pay check as if he was their the whole weekend.
I freeking loved this show and have recently rewatched it still holds up today.. loved the end game movie though i thought that the sorse movie was rubbish 😢.. I didn't much care for season six though I liked the idea I found cluadia Christian would av made a better choice for the spin off series than Amanda did even though I loved her in the show ❤❤
The series had a very boring first season and I'm surprised it survived it. It picked up a lot of steam afterwards and the introduction of Methos was a brilliant idea!
It's Methos, crap like this is one of the reasons I stopped watching videos on this channel. You lose all credibility saying what massive fans you are and then mispronouncing the name of a major character - he was in a ton of episodes and not one other character ever pronounced it the way you did. Where you just putting your spin on it? Making it your own? Also, Amanda is the absolute worst thing about this show. The minute she shows up on screen I know it is a bad episode and skip to the next. No Highlander fan asked for the romance novel episode.
You are wrong. I would have made the immortals Fallen Angels. In the Bible there was a war started by Lucifer, the Angels who fought with Lucifer or just stood by and didn't take sides, were all cast out of Heaven. That would explain why they can't fight on Holy Ground. And I would have changed the Prize to be reentry into Heaven.
meatas was a vegan. 😂 he watched his diet, becoming the longest living immortal. in the end, ... highlander painted themselves into a corner killing the franchise. (you thought i was about to say "...there can only be one.".) after they killed connor, the franchise was dead to me. the movies were the nails to the coffin.
I think it was the best screenplay of that year. And guess what I don’t consider it a fantasy sci if. I consider it to be fantasy love story. Number 2 was complete dog shit. The tv series was pretty good. But I thought there were too many immortal fights on the tv show. I wanted him to fight normal mortals like bad guys who took over the court room in the first season. And once in a while fighting an immortal. I really liked Methos however.
It' "Methos", NOT Metaas!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Exactly! What the hell is a me toss?
How can someone who loved the show and said Methos was one of fav characters pronounce the name like that.
Seriously... but it was probably a plan a to get comments from everyone correcting him
That was bothering me as well.
What? No mention of my favourite recurring guest character Roger Daltrey's Hugh Fitzcairn? Every episode he was in was great fun.
Agreed. Hugh was excellent.
I had the pleasure of working with Adrian Paul on a Sci-Fi film called Eyeborgs in 2007. He's as great in real life as he is on the Highlander show.
I remember Eyeborgs :) What did you do on it? I always thought it was a properly enjoyable film.
You forgot Roger Daltry. Adrian Paul and him were just great together as competing friends.
I’m a simple man, I see a video about Highlander, I watch it
I'm only interested in the potential reboot because of Chad Stahelsky and Henry Cavill. Otherwise I'd say "do not touch this beloved franchise you fool".

The Quickening lightning effects on the tv show were hand painted, every cell, no computer CGI involved at all. The sparks were basic firework pyrotechnics used at rock concerts.
Methos, not Meatos, LOL. How can a supposed fan not know that after watching all the shows he was in? Hm?

considering the weird pronunciation of highlander as well, it makes me wonder. Never heard anyone say it like that before.
Who da fuq is Me-Toss?
I found all 6 seasons of The Highlander TV series on VHS at a second-hand store a while back.
I paid a total of about $30 for them all.
you mean 5 seasons and some other show labled Highlander season 6 :P

Loved Highlander The series! Was very fortunate to meet Adrian Paul and Jim Byrnes at a convention a few years back.
In my head canon the real sequel to the first Highlander Movie was the Mortal Combat movie, where Lambert had become a god who defends the Earth. LOL
McClouds katana is the second coolest 80’s weapon behind a lightsaber
Live action weapon at least. If you include cartoons, it’s still be in the top 10.

We need a special about Canadian-made TV shows in the 90s-2000s and their shared actor pool. This one, Stargate SG-1, X-Files, War of the Worlds...
Someone edited the show chronologically and it was cool to watch like that
Highlander II may very well be the worst sequel ever made. It was so bad, in fact, that the third Highlander film not only pretended that the second never happened, but effectively made it so it never could have happened.

I have to disagree after all the plan of the big bad in Endgame was to just stop playing by the rules.
Thanks for not being the only one who doesn't like the full version of the Queen song.

that song is great till you get past the part of the song from the show. then its utter shit. :)
