Home Movies and Dr. Katz both seem to be scenes made from people recording themselves riffing off of each other and doing bits, and I think that’s what brings that quality to these shows. Not to mention the humble-y feeling the squigglevision and simple recognizable characters give the shows.
I am an absolute fanatic and always have been. I remember this show in the nineties when I was in my twenties. Laura was amazing. A borderline fantasy. And yet Laura Silverman is even prettier. Wow! I agree that the chemistry between Jon, Laura, and Jonathan is unmatched to this day. How I wish they'd do it again! Even for one season. I'm a big fan and hope they're all doing well. I watch every night. Know every line. It is pure comfort.
bring this show back please - binge watched the 81 shows on you tube playlist - they are all equally funny and super funny when together. in my top 5 comedy shows all time
There is not one episode that I didn't watch or don't know but I never seen this real person thing.. it's very cool. Laura's voice though. Stuff of dreams
This was like watching an episode of Dr. Katz materialize before your eyes. Great stuff. My uncle suffers from MS, so it's really cool for me to see Jonathan Katz performing live and be just as on point as ever.
Sufferin' Sucatash ! Being such a huge fan of "Dr Katz", this is a real treat to see a real life sketch played by the original voice over artists ! THANX so much for uploading for us to enjoy ! You have MADE my day, my week & my weekend ! CHEERS, mate !! :-)
Katz.. despite the mason crap which i attribute to the producers.. You are an Absolute LEGEND! Underappreciated & humble as the day is long. My mind was further blown when i saw Rodney on the show. Of course H. John is beyond compare and Silverman is as Sexy live as she was on the animation!@ This was a brilliant idea ..well b4 all the movies had to become live action! TY for Lulling me to sleep every nite!!!
If it's anything like the cartoon, they probably used a method called "retro scripting" whereby they'll outline a scene with a few lines and then improvise the holes.
I did watch the show, during its initial run, and again when my roommate bought the DVD. It was more tightly paced than this, which is why I wondered if this was improvised.
Wow that waqs so great. I am a huge fan. Ive seen them all 100's of times.Have both audible books. what show is this from? I never knew they did a live performance. Are there more of these?

Geez, I have always been annoyed by Laura, but I love her so much! Many of us came up with this show and these characters, so this was really super cool to watch.

is hard to watch them not squiggling
LOL
I remembered this show bot i couldn't think of the name, so i typed squigglevision and dr. Katz showed up. Something about squigglevision.
@@old8235 The show is Dr. Katz, you had it
God I miss this show and Home Movies. Just that chill vibe where everything is so mundane and natural
This ^

tom snyder ftw
Does anyone know if the coach from home movies has done anything else, he was hilarious
@hagbardceline859bob’s burgers?
Love the awkwardness! Amazing they capture it live, the conversation is so disjointed it's awesome. Jon and Laura's chemistry is awesome
They used to date.
Katz himself looks more like his cartoon equivalent than any others.
@jopageri1964 oh others are similar too, i just think the similarity is closest with the Katzs
I saw Home Movies before I saw Dr. Katz, so I pictured him looking more like Eric from Home Movies, just without purple hair. Boy was I off 😅
Laura and Ben actors dated in the 90s in real life so their chemistry is something unique.
Oh my god... I knew ittt
you can tell when you hear the annoyance in her voice towards him
@@jessicaromanoff7079 Well… that’s exactly the point of the characters relationship in the show
woaaaahhh that is amazing.

they are not equally funny. the ones featuring Dom Irrera skew funnier. Dr Katz it's me and you in me dreams, in my Dreeeeeeeams

laura is hilarious. and h. jon benjamin is great at adapting to whoever he works with.

Feels retroscripted just like the show :)
What is retroscripted? Semi-improv?
@@WiseGuy508 yes.
The show was a brilliant concept; interview comics, let them do their stuff. This is probably how they actually recorded the sessions.
My favorite episode is Thanksgiving...Ben in the kitchen...lmao...my stomach hurt.😁😃😊👍
I have the biggest crush on Laura Silverman.
This is brilliant and very true to the show. I just hoped Ben and Laura would get married someday even if it would be uncharacteristic of the show.
hi
TIMBOOOOoooooo
Is this mostly improvised? She's super witty and funny. Ben is actually even more awkward than his character I think.
It's ad-libbed. They know where the story needs to go, but they make up the dialogue on the spot.
@@Caannnnoonnsame with the actual show. its called retro scripting
@@alightswitch777 Pretty much everything H Jon Benjamin is in does it that way.

Was that Paul F. Tompkins?
He's hilarious in every thing he's in.
I saw Dr. Katz live at Aspen comedy festival. Larry Miller was one of patients.
A little disappointed that Dr Katz didn’t wear his green pants 😂
this is blowing my mind
I kind of wish they had animated this too. I think it would have been cool without the audience laughing in the background.
God bless everyone.

Sarah is hot but laura has a really sexy voice and she's cute too
Lmao. This comment is 11 years old so I guess I get the "Sarah is hot" thing. Laura has always been my favorite sister tho.

It's funny how much like this show is similar to the original bob newhart show. When a good thing works, it'll probably work again.

Are these the actual people who did the voice acting?
Yes

This is so freakin awesome!
I get why the original cartoon doesn't have laugh tracks. They're not complimenting the whole look
This is a live audience.
I love it that between the scenes they played that transition music and showed a shot of the outside of the building like in the cartoon.
Melissa was the receptionist in Katz?! I never realized lol
Holy fuck, Laura is stunning
I love how Laura and H. Jon have worked so long together, now they're Andy and Jimmy Jr. Pesto on Bob's Burgers

Was this improv? It seems to circulate for a while before going anywhere.
Definitely fan fiction, written by Ben
If I did drugs when watching the cartoon this would be what I'd see.
Poor Ben
She has THE sexiest voice, my god
I wish Comedy Central would bring this back.
I like the way the cartoon is drawn if it was any more realistic it wouldn't work And it's funny as hell
yes, completely agree, it loses some parts of the humour without the cartoon element.
its very odd watching the live version
