I cut out carbs and added fat after watching one of your fatty liver videos. After three months, I have lost 45 pounds and my... ALT was 75, now 51... A1C was 7.5, now 5.4... and my LDL stayed the same. The doc was certainly upset with the high fat diet, but after seeing the results, all he could say was... continue to eat healthy. 😁

Dr. Berry, have you done, or would you consider doing a video about what Type 2 diabetics with insulin resistance who have adopted LCHF diets or keto should do about their insulin injections? Should we vary mealtime insulin first, long acting insulin like Lantus first, reduce doses, or reduce frequency first? Titrate to blood glucose? Is it better to tolerate a slightly higher blood sugar and take less insulin if one has IR? Things like that.
I know you would have to keep it generic. I've asked my doctor and he doesn't seem to like the idea of how I'm eating, even though my blood sugars are much better since I got your book and changed my diet, and he wants me to go back to the ADA diet, on which I have gained 75 pounds since having insulin prescribed. Thank you.

I was diagnosed 17 months ago with a double whammy to my liver - Severe Fatty Liver disease and Hemochromatosis. I have since lost 115lbs on Keto. My Severe Fatty Liver has improved to Mild Fatty Liver. I went from a Ferritin reading of 4580 to 400. I still have a way to go, but I’m on the right track. I went from 321lbs to 206lbs. I’ve lost over 20” on my waist. From a 60” waist to 36”. Keto works and I love it.

Family Manager Yes, there is no cure for Hemochromatosis. I will still require Phlebotomy Treatment for the rest of my life. I went on Keto primarily to get rid of my Fatty Liver Disease. My Doctor was amazed that my Ferritin levels came down so fast. I believe the Keto Diet helped. At the very least it took stress off my liver, with it being inundated with fat and iron at the same time. But yes, Hemochromatosis is for life, and I will still require phlebotomy treatment forever.

3 Card Monty Thomas DeLauer put out a video recently about copper deficiency signs. Interestingly, he said that copper is required for our cells to take up iron and that without enough copper, iron builds up. Researching on this topic may be of some use. I'm homozygous for the gene for hemochromatosis, haven't ever had my ferritin levels checked yet. Female so it's only more recently that I might have been building up ferritin. Had a CT scan for kidney stones and they described fat on my liver and gallstones. Have been carnivore for the 6 weeks since and plan to maintain it. I do believe it is the way our ancestors ate and the way we are evolved to eat and that's why we get so many problems when we consume fake food, food that is not real food for humans. Thanks for posting your success story. I know it's been awhile. Hope your ferritin level has gone down further. Congratulations on getting healthier! Started with 40 lb to lose, I have lost at least 10. And I do believe that this diet will also save my life in the long run.

Just seems so extreme to give up all carbs. We need carbs for brain function and the italians live a very healthy diet with carbs as a main component. Only they arent gluttons. They eat small proportions and dont get heavy with steroid raised meat. I think we lost our way once we began to supersize everything people also became supersized. If you are in trouble then drastic measures for drastic means. I think a sensibly based diet is the best course.

@@taroman7100 Your body makes enough glucose even when doing extended multi-day fasts. At the same time, it makes ketones when fasting, which the brain uses as an alternate fuel. In the late '60's, Dr. George Cahill fasted volunteers for 40 days. After ten days, he determined the brain was running on 67% ketones, 33% glucose. He then injected insulin, lowering glucose to about 20. Normally this would cause coma or death, but the patients were fine since their brain was running primarily on ketones. Dr. Dominic D'Agostino has repeated the experiment on himself.

This diet is a game changer. Thank you, Dr. Berry. ❤

A lower carbohydrate way of eating was how I got out of Inflammed Fatty Liver Disease (verified by liver biopsie, N.A.S.H. with moderate stage fibrosis and portal vein hypertension) starting in 2006. It wasn't low carb as in 5% of calories daily, but it was an extreme drop in them. I didn't do the higher fat part though, I just flat out went without. At those times doctors recommended that you dare not go on fasts because in some cases, supposedly, it had accellerated the problem.
I basically fasted a lot and ate far fewer carbohydrates. Nine months later, I had lost 80 pounds, and the liver enzyme levels, and the ensuing diabetes' A1c marker had cleared up to well within normal range.

@@symboltherapper They were calling it a low glycemic diet back then. I stayed very mindful of anything that would raised my blood glucose levels rapidly. By that, I was only dealing with the problem in part, but it proved that it was enough to reverse the liver issues. I did take supplements that are known for liver health, like milk thistle Alpha lipoic acid, and choline. Vitamin C and E beyond the fasting.

    Hi Doctor Ken,
I have fatty liver, I have been on the KETO diet with intermittent fasting since the start of December 2019.
My blood results are showing an improvement with my liver, and I have lost a lot of weight, started over 120 Kilos
I didn't weigh myself before I started, I'm down to 108 Kilos. My doctor is happy that I'm losing weight, but is critical
of me using the low carb approach, I told him I was going to keep doing it and that the "recommended dietary guidelines"
are what got me in this situating to begin with.

We have people getting bariatric surgery simply because they can't switch from soda to water. Anytime I need to lose weight, I go on strict Keto for a few weeks.

From watching Dr. Berry's videos, I knew she was wrong, and forced her to prove it, but she referred me to another dietician. She wants me to ask my doctor to do a kidney panel and to refer me to a dietician to track my progress. I believe Im doing fine without one. Dr Ken D Berry I experienced a young man at a GNC store in Paducah, Kentucky last week( the mall store) tell me that I should go to my health care provider because to be in ketosis for over two years was deadly and likely to cause me to have the symptoms of allergic reaction to whey protein, not an allergy. I got pretty heated and told him I eee my doc every 4 months and get bloodwork. I explained my 70 plus lb weight loss. My beautiful bloodwork. He began to tell me of his degree in nutrition and that I was in danger of my health killing me from keto( he ended this opinion with,” I am not a health care provider though.”) I told him “exactly! You are not! What you are saying is crap and you shouldn’t be telling ppl that junk.”
I would have stopped keto that day from fear. If I hadn’t watched every video and live you’ve ever posted. This boy looked to be about 17 but since he works in GNC I’d say he is ruining healthy WEIGHTLOSS for ppl who trust his advice. Please address this if you can so other Dr Berry followers will know their (GNC )bad advice is crap.

I'm starting 18:6 intermittent fasting, after a mere three days my fasting and between-meal blood sugars have already dropped 10+ points into the low 80s. 4 meals after dinner I tested 83 moments ago. Last week I had AM fasting sugar at 100 or above. I would strongly suggest reading The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. Dr Berry - I’ve had NAFLD for at least 10 years. These are my lab results after 100 days of significantly reducing carbs and sugar and 80 days of 16/8 Intermittent Fasting: Total cholesterol down 13%, HDL up 2%, LDL down 24%, Triglycerides down 39%, ALT down 51%, AST down 27%, A1C down 5%. This is the first time in a while that my liver enzymes are in the normal range. My A1C is my only out of range reading at 6.0 but it is now trending down. I’ve added “good” fats to my diet in place of carbs (I’m eating more fats now than ever before) and all my lipid panel results improved! I guess when there are a lot of carbs available to burn, the body burns “some” but the fat (even though I limited it in the past) is stored as fat. My goal was not to lose weight, but I did lose about 8% (mostly around my belly). My current BMI is 22.2. This is all a result of following your advice. Thank you! Will my A1C continue to drop by staying the course?

I was the low fat, high carb poster child. Work out and exercise obsessively. I was competing mtn bike racer. Body started changing after 50 and I ballooned to 200+ lbs despite all the exercise.
My blood work about three months ago was awakening. High liver enzymes and some higher wbc counts that also "could indicate liver damage". And high cholesterol, especially triglycerides. NAFLD! First time that I had heard of such a thing.
When the reality set in, I was angry. I followed all " the expert advice "! I was a self described health nut, but my health was failing anyway? There's one universal truth that has always proven correct: " if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got".
I knew the doctors advice and the glossy DASH diet brochure that he sent me home with was more of the same. It was crunch time! Time for a meaningful change! I started modestly with low carb. The higher fat still scared me. But I kept evolving and the results were confident inspiring. So I went a little further every week.
Now I'm OMAD and down to about 30g of carbs daily. I've lost 15 pounds, my liver girth has decreased by 1.5 inches, and my visceral fat has remained mostly unchanged. My nervous Nancy anxiety is gone and I've discovered a renewed calm and greater acuity. I'm never going back. Slowly still going forward. I have a follow up blood test next month.

I want to do something for me. At the beginning before each video, going forward, give your resume in one single breath. If I share this video with the many skeptics in my life, they have a tendency to hear the first few seconds and quicky judge the credibility of not only what you're saying but also your ability to know of sound doctrine of what you're believing and teaching. Give the number of years in practice, the general number of patients you've served and that you're an MD. A lot of folks have looked down on other keto doctors saying that they were not medical doctors but rather that their degree was in something else and, by default, these very respectable doctors get dogged. You, by comparison, have all the right components in place. Do this for my viewers, please. You are too powerful to be overlooked. Another great video as always!

I was diagnosed with NAFLD about a year ago. I wanted to find the best specialist and so I did my homework. I found a doctor where I live and he got his doctorate degree from Harvard, and he graduated at the top of his class. When he and I were talking, I told him that I was looking up things on the internet trying to find if a low carb or a low-fat diet was the way to go. I had also mentioned to him that my mom was diagnosed with NAFLD, and she has been doing a low carb diet for years. This is what he informed me on. He said that lots of studies have been done whether if a low carb diet is best to reduce NAFLD or if a low-fat diet is. He said, that doing one or the other will benefit the outcome. He also said to me that he helped with a study at Harvard on this specific disease. What he and the group of specialists realized was that you don't need to be put on any specific diet to get rid of NAFLD. He said that if you get rid of your greasy foods and sugary foods and eat lots of fruits that are mostly filled with water, eat lots of veggies, whole grains and drink lots of water, then those are the things that will help get rid of it. He said that fruits with lots of water have very healthy bacteria in them that have been proven to reduce NAFLD, same with the whole grains. He said that by eating whole grains not only helps your entire body to stay healthy, but also your liver. He said that foods that are high in fiber can protect your liver from inflammation, as well as lower your risk of obesity, diabetes and NAFLD. He also told me that I can still eat the way that I want but to avoid the surgery foods, greasy foods, and do smaller portions. I have done what my specialist told me to do, and a year later I have to say, that my NAFLD has shrunk by 85% and I have lost quite a bit of weight and I feel so much better with myself. 😃

I am also at stage 2 nafld. This was revealed on an ultrasound almost a year back. Also through the roof were SGOT,SGPT and Bilirubin levels. The final straw came when I started drinking 20 litres of water a day and peeing almost the same. HBA1C was 14.3. Wife wanted to rush to a doctor and I have seen the laughable treatment protocols for diabetes. I had known about keto for quite some time even though I was guilty of inaction. Eliminated grains altogether , replaced those with chicken, veggies, cottage cheese eggs and three months later , HBA1C is 6.1 ( last week). SGOT,SGPT and surprisingly total Bilirubin levels are all normal. Haven't had an ultrasound yet but I will do it in a few months. I wouldn't be surprised if my fatty liver has reversed.
