Yeah when he yielded his gun, that was a deep scene. I really hoped to see him have a change of heart being touched by Gods plan and be inspired by Eli simply hearing "some voice" to go West and then keep wandering no matter what or who stands against him. Pity he died like this. When the blade pierced him do you think the writer meant to say that this was divine intervention or something God had a hand in or just coincidence?
I think it's more that he understood when he was out of his depth. His character comes off as genuinely good in the social sense, but also intelligent and aware enough to be morally alert. He didn't necessarily understand Eli had a higher purpose. He realized Eli wasn't fighting a war so much as he was defending himself.
Look at Redridge during the shootout. He's just standing there mesmerised by what's happening. He doesn't move and because he doesn't fire again he doesn't get hit. He knew something was wrong/different about this character. He felt the touch of God on the situation and his spirit softened. Great scene. Great details.
Yea, God wouldn’t allow denzel to be shot, and guided his hand to shoot the others that were shooting first. Redridge must’ve thought, well I couldn’t hit him before, I won’t hit him now
He's a very interesting character, too. God used his lust for Solara for good in the movie. +camrober Eli is using a .45 here. Eli carries a weathered Heckler & Koch HK45 pistol (an LEM variant as noted by the bobbed hammer and lack of external safety) as his sidearm throughout the film. In true movie fashion, Eli fires about twice as many rounds as the pistol can hold before reloading.Trivia: Even though the pistol had just been out a year when the film was made, the brand new HK45 was sanded and worn down to look very old (as this film takes place in the future, so it will look like an antique vintage firearm) for the film. The actual pistol is currently on display at the National Firearms Museum located at the NRA headquarters in Fairfax, VA.
Redridge found his conscience. I love this scene. He was just a loyal servant up until this point. He saw something bigger at play and felt that he should refrain from murder. As though he recognized that this was wrong at heart. I want to believe that when he died he was looking to God in the end. He was saved.

+Joshua Middleton I thought it was very clever; synonymous with "do upon others as they do upon you" (Original text "All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.")
People overlook how sound Carnegie's arguments are. Not to defend his evil actions, but he makes a very good point. That he can't build anything because he can't tell the people the right words, but the book can help him do that. What he basically means is that without religion or similar philosophy that would give the masses some core belief system, you get no civilization, because you can't get people to want to be more than just their primal needs without making them believe in something more than primal. You see it on the town - it is really desolate. Functioning somewhat, but just a dark, ugly, brutal place. It needs a touch of something grander to grow beyond that. A vision all the people can understand and follow. I actually realized this in my own life too which is why Im pointing it out. Born into upper middle class or upper class, city kid, dad an atheist, mom wasnt I think but acted like she was sorta because of dad. Dad always kinda ridiculed religious people, mocked church, disliked or even hated organized religion. But interestingly enough, he had a bible in the table near his bed. Anyway...I am more like mom, but often pretended to be like dad and thus I too enjoyed a lot of anti organized religion stuff in comedy, stand up comedy, literature (Life of Brian, George Carlin, God Delusion, etc.). I had my belief too, but I too often mocked some things religious. I worked in a good company, got fired after 8 years, fell on harder times, suddenly felt what it was like to have nothing. To be invisible to others. And it hit me, now I finally understood why religion is so strong in smaller communities, maybe among people of more modest means, in poorer smaller rural towns - it is because perhaps these circumstances make many people value what religion offers more because they need it more to keep their lives and communities more industrious, happy and functioning. Remove religion from them and it's desolation like in the movie. And in the cities, because of various and more vast means to satisfy our urges, needs, desires, people rely on religion perhaps not as much or in a less IDK strong or firm way. I realized that I appreciate my belief system more than before during these times and that really my past ridicule of some things makes me feel IDK... like a brat, an arrogant brat or a punk. Because I poked fun at something I need too and perhaps at something that for someone somewhere is the only thing from making them go completely crazy. Or worse. Basically what I realized is that religion, despite some arguments against certain things - how it is practiced, by whom, and how some people hide behind it, abuse it, etc. is perhaps one of the most essential things holding most of the world together. Whether it's religion in any form on any continent, and no matter how it evolves with time, mankind needs this spirituality and belief system to feel hope, peace, so we feel safe in our minds or souls, motivated and consoled in time of need. Without this, our world as it is would not be where it is.

0:28 raise your volume high and you can hear him doing a clicking sound, subtle hint that he's using echolocation because he's blind. Just like the first scene with the arrow and the cat, he uses clicking sound.
If you haven't seen the whole movie, then you really should :) It's an awesome movie, and the reason that Eli doesn't want to share the Bible is because God sent him on a quest to get it to a location where it could be preserved. He had to reach that location, not give it to some evil guy who rules the town through fear and his goons. :)
This scene is so good. Gary Oldman's character knows that you can only project so much force to keep people in line and that you need something more powerful to keep them under control: an idea, philosophy, ideology, a religion. At the end of the movie he loses his goons and the whole place descends into anarchy which just furthers the point of a unifying idea is integral to a functioning and long lasting society.
Righteous man....the walk is sometimes lonely...but he stood for what was the will of the Lord...and wasn't swayed by an army...and the army surely fell...
I always wondered why he stopped shooting. He had the perfect shot... But if you look closely, his head tilts a little to the side, almost as if he had seen something, then he lowered his gun and his demeanor changed. Wonder what he saw?
there's one scene where he fights the hijackers on a highway and if you look above at the highway wall it says 14:6 now go read genesis 14:6 and you will see ELI is really a chosen Hebrew Israelite that's why he is blessed with divine providence
i wonder why at 4:11 the guy didnt shoot, what would been the connection between these two? what are they thinking?I just love these kind of scenes, its deep going
That guy has respect for Eli. Both of them probably had similar lives before the "Flash" He has an understanding for him as they are both from the same generation and know what life was like before.
He understood that he is not a human, but more like an angel that can not be hurt by humans. He saw him take down snipers with single shot each, and somehow dodge his gunfire without moving. At this point he just realizes that even if he shot him directly in the head, he wouldn't kill him and he just gives up.
actually the entire movie points to the fact that he is blind even in this scene if you realized while everyone was getting shot because they fired back and he was able to pinpoint a location the guy who shot at him first just stood in the open not making a sound which is why he didn't get shot. He even realizes that Denzel is blind when he points his gun at him and Denzel doesn't react, because he didn't know there was a gun pointed at him. And the band guy who was 2nd in command realizes this
was gary oldman really the antagonist in this film? he brought order to an almost hopeless place sure he was an asshole but things would go to shit without him
He just activated the "Heaven's help" superpower. - Description: "Aldo blind as a bat your faith and righteousness is huge in the eyes of God, he aids you in your quest to purge the wicked" - Effects: * Gives 90% to hit and 20% critical hit chance - Aldo blind your aim and your bullets are guided by His holly sight * Gives 99% on evasion of enemy ranged attacks - Your undeniable faith is your shield , literally, creates the invisible barrier that deflects incoming missiles. * Killing an enemy gives a 20% chance to regenerate ammo in clip - the Lord sees your efficiency in purging the wicked, so he gives you more ammo to play with than the gun normally can hold.
dylan sayin no if you watch the movie again you'll realise a few things. That shooting scene? He only shoots when someone else shot at him first. Or when he was shot and he just stood there for a sec then took his knife out and blindly waves it around until finally dropping on the ground, he was in a shocked state because he was shot and confused because no one around him made a sound or spoke. It is a bit weird how he looks people almost directly in the face.. maybe he got used to it
KoOkiEzRoCkz That is possible and I like that, but it wouldn't work that well. Some the guys we're standing on roofs about 50 meters away, that wouldn't work. Also most of the shots which were fired at him just didn't hit, like he was protected. I always thought that his hands we're guided by god. He protected the Bible and God helped him. They took the verse "I was blind, but now I can see" just literally.
SnoopysOtherBird yeah they overdid it and made it seem like he could see like a normal person but he was rly like you said 'protected'. Im not Christian but I did some research and there really was a prophet/warrior who was blind but given the ability to fight like a normal man by God. Not entirely sure though..
KoOkiEzRoCkz And later on in the movie whenever they arrive at the cannibals' home, they told him "didnt you see the sign?" then Eli reply's back "i didn't see it." Little details like that are awesome
This is probably the nearest thing to apocalyptic reality we may see. The cannibalism portrayed is near enough to what has already happened to the human race, when your airplane crashes in the alps.
This is exactly how Fallout protagonists fight their enemy. They don't find cover most of time and shoot with deadly precision and , most importantly, they don't flinch.
I saw this in theaters in Chattanooga TN while there for work. I was with a couple of work-friends. When the movie was over, they didnt turn the lights back on for us to walk out. They left the screen dark. Everyone sat there unsure of if anything was coming next. I knew what they were doing though. I got up and smacked the one guy next to me on the arm and they both got up to follow. After we got about halfway down the ramp, others followed. Still pitch black in the theater. It was an awesome movie, and what they did at the end was even more awesome.
And it's so strange that he shot 16 rounds, considering the HK45 is only equipped with 10 round magazines which means 11 rounds if you count one in the chamber. Though who knows, maybe he has aftermarket 15 round mags! Lol
Imagine that, Hollywood Director shows 16 shots fired from a 10/11 shot pistol. Good shootin' Tex! Bad guys lost. Notice how the leader in town tried fancy words, twisting, parsing meanings in order to have evil prevail, especially since he was implying the "meek and downtrodden" would benefit if he had the book. The Pied Piper leading the simple minded down the wrong path of life, typical.
If you replay the second shot when Redridge uses both hands and shoots at 0.25 speed, you can see that the bullet actually DOES hit the top of the pack and it should have gone into his neck... But instead the bullet somehow ricochets off of the pack and exits clean through and hits the ground without causing any damage at all to Eli or his clothes.
The twist at the end of this movie is one of the best. The whole time he wants the book without knowing he actually needs him and not the book for the twist at the end such a great Denzel movie, not that there are many that aren't.

Bro, 9mm has penetration in an SMG barrel out to 50m, and a pistol? 400m? Bro, learn your ballistics.
Well he's supposed to be a prophet so God is the only reason he survives. All glory to Jesus Christ indeed!

Redridge found his conscience. I love this scene. He was just a loyal servant up until this point. He saw something bigger at play and felt that he should refrain from murder. As though he recognized that this was wrong at heart. I want to believe that when he died he was looking to God in the end. He was saved.
He did have a little smile before he died looking at the sun.
Redridge is totally the converted centurion in this story ❤
Not many would understand the hidden message the film tried to convey..Brought tears in my eyes...Many thanks to the maker of this film

Yep, that's the premise
God is guiding Eli's whole life and purpose. His fighting abilities are an extention of that.
To be fair, his enemies' accuracy are worse than my blind great grandpa.

man denzel is the real action hero his scenes are so badass
As soon as the second bullet missed him, i was in Awe. This movie was incredible, the ending to his condition just made it that more intense. And i would rewatch the movie and notice those subtle clues about his condition lol
Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman were just phenomenal in this movie

Which "he"? Eli or Carnegie?
"nor can any be replaced"
i heard him say "ALLAHU AKBAR!" just before walking away
That was Eastman.
I love you Denzel Washington... I mean really. I can't imagine anyone else pulling this off so flawlessly.
God damn this was such a powerful movie.
I need to watch it again.
I agree
This is like Daredevil/Fallout: Bible edition.

The part where the gentleman realized that Eli was blind (later revealed) showed deep compassion for both characters.
I think this movie is so amazing because the lord is with him even though he's blind he guides him through the entire journey west which is shown all through the movie. It kind of reminds me of david.
This whole movie is about walking by faith and not by sight. I love it.
This film has always been horribly underrated, for the message alone, if not for the cinematography and acting. The soundtrack is amazing too.
0:28 raise your volume high and you can hear him doing a clicking sound, subtle hint that he's using echolocation because he's blind. Just like the first scene with the arrow and the cat, he uses clicking sound.
Ok now I understand about that observation you made. On killing the cat and been blind. Oddly amazing scene!!!
Right after the first gun is fired it truns into that moment from fallout 4 where you are greated by raiders
If you haven't seen the whole movie, then you really should :)
It's an awesome movie, and the reason that Eli doesn't want to share the Bible is because God sent him on a quest to get it to a location where it could be preserved.
He had to reach that location, not give it to some evil guy who rules the town through fear and his goons. :)
Not to mention it would have been useless to him without Eli staying there to translate it.
The sound design of this scene heard in theaters sent absolute chills down my spire. Phenomenal work.

The lord really does guide those who are holy and faithful to the Bible.
not many people understand how powerful
4:02 scene is
And what exactly is it that only a few chosen people get that the others are missing?
I always wondered why he stopped shooting. He had the perfect shot... But if you look closely, his head tilts a little to the side, almost as if he had seen something, then he lowered his gun and his demeanor changed. Wonder what he saw?
there's one scene where he fights the hijackers on a highway
and if you look above at the highway wall it says 14:6
now go read genesis 14:6 and you will see ELI is really a chosen Hebrew Israelite that's why he is blessed with divine providence
Had read it before as referring to Revelation 14:6.
i wonder why at 4:11 the guy didnt shoot, what would been the connection between these two? what are they thinking?I just love these kind of scenes, its deep going
+DIRTY BEATZ I think he figured that something strange was going on
That guy has respect for Eli.
He's also thinking he's seeing eye to eye with Eli, which is ironic because Eli can't even see him
Redridge is the small part but I think it's the heart of the movie.
actually the entire movie points to the fact that he is blind even in this scene if you realized while everyone was getting shot because they fired back and he was able to pinpoint a location the guy who shot at him first just stood in the open not making a sound which is why he didn't get shot. He even realizes that Denzel is blind when he points his gun at him and Denzel doesn't react, because he didn't know there was a gun pointed at him. And the band guy who was 2nd in command realizes this
My goodness Goodman is the quietest whisperer. I have my earphones in at max volume and... only then can I kinda hear it.
KIlling with "God eyes" shooting with each hit a kill. Blessed be thy name.

* Gives 99% on evasion of enemy ranged attacks - Your undeniable faith is your shield , literally, creates the invisible barrier that deflects incoming missiles.

Fun fact : Eli's blind
Idiot poll : Why would you search a vid and look at its comments if you're worried about spoilers
dylan sayin no if you watch the movie again you'll realise a few things.
KoOkiEzRoCkz And later on in the movie whenever they arrive at the cannibals' home, they told him "didnt you see the sign?" then Eli reply's back "i didn't see it." Little details like that are awesome
god dam it! I hate those fking god mode hackers.....
That bad guy who missed him twice just witnessed a miracle and it changed him.
He wasn’t really a bad guy. Carnegie made him do bad things
This is probably the nearest thing to apocalyptic reality we may see. The cannibalism portrayed is near enough to what has already happened to the human race, when your airplane crashes in the alps.
Philippians 4:13 I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me
If you look closely you can see he's got an expression of fear on his face
This guy has VATS
It's a hard, hard life but it's so much more interesting than selling insurance.
Sorry that this is so late but if your still wondering what it is it's a hk45
Pullo, formation!
Fuck Concorde in the arse, the truce is raised.

ahh yes Titus Pullo one of the best characters ever portrayed on film. He and Vorenus made Rome legendary in my mind!!.
Excellent. Where is Lucius?
If you replay the second shot when Redridge uses both hands and shoots at 0.25 speed, you can see that the bullet actually DOES hit the top of the pack and it should have gone into his neck... But instead the bullet somehow ricochets off of the pack and exits clean through and hits the ground without causing any damage at all to Eli or his clothes.
The twist at the end of this movie is one of the best. The whole time he wants the book without knowing he actually needs him and not the book for the twist at the end such a great Denzel movie, not that there are many that aren't.
