I think it's worth pointing out that the anti-gay Christians paradigm is identical to that used by the Nazis against Jews: “It is our god-given duty to protect our purity against this pollution.”

I just want to clarify. ☝️As a transgender female who is a follower of Christ, I want to correct the language around trans people in the Bible. Crossdressing and being transgender are two separate things entirely. “Wearing someone else’s clothes” is not what I and all other trans people are doing. I whole heartedly believe that my soul is female and our bodies, being temporary vessels, sometimes don’t match up with the soul they’re housing.
Trans people, trans women specifically, are not dudes in dresses. At the end of the day when it’s just me and my naked body and God, I’m still female because my soul is female.
Just wanted to clarify this. Perhaps that verse is talking about someone cross dressing and not someone who is transgender. I feel like that needs to be clarified because there’s so much confusion and ignorance surrounding trans people and “drag queens” or crossdressers.
Love you two and your podcast btw. Keep it up. 🥰❤️😘

Thank you Frances! Really happy to have your perspective here! With that said, do you think this is ok to have in the podcast or would it be better to clip that part out?

Great guest. Here's another suggestion: Flamy Grant, the first drag queen with a number one song on the Billboard Christian charts. Just heard her concert and she has a great story to tell.

I really believe that God is showing the world that you cannot put Him/Her in a box... a book.. or certain people..

James Baldwin was an excellent author. I advise anyone to watch the PBS documentary with him shown and interviewed.

Most of Gen X grew up never really having hope for anything more than people not actively and purposely hurting you or killing you when you get "discovered" except for the hardcore activists.

I really like the episodes of this show that i've had the priviledge to watch so far and thank you for your fine efforts. Always heartening to hear testimonies of Gd working in others' lives. You said that the Bible states that if you don't do things like keep kosher, then you're going to hell. Hell is barely mentioned in Torah. The mystics teach that eating non-Kosher food affects the soul and makes a Jew less receptive to the divine and more driven by their baser appetites. Jews who eat non-Kosher (not just pork) will tend to become less interested in serving Gd and more compelled by their lusts and appetites. That maybe doesn't characterise all Orthodox Jews's take on it but the consequence is a violation of being a part of the greater Jewish community and again, it's not about "going to hell". It might be fun to read Rabbi Steven Greenberg's book called, "Wrestling with God : Homosexualiity in the Jewish Tradition". Steve was the first Orthodox rabbi to come out as gay and has been married to his husband for many years. It's hard to get into Orthodox Judaism for a Christian at first but at least I have an idea of how Torah is interpreted over the years and today. Heedless quips about "going to hell" in Leviticus or Deuteronomy miss so much rich work that centuries of Jewish thought struggled with over the centuries, you will, discover, miss the mark. Again, thanks lots for all you do. Peace and continued success in your endeavors, including your guest, JJ Gerber. +He is risen+

Certainly not advising here, just sharing.
Hi Nate, In regards to a date, mate or companion: I don’t believe there are types. Because they (types, I mean) become stereotypes. Which is not healthy because then we live in boxes again. (Christian, gay, black, classy, athlete, creative etc…). Being set free to accept and discern another person for their true character is what it’s all about. It’s kind of coming full circle to your whole point of the podcast.
I believe there will be character qualities that you love and admire in someone, and that will be magnetism disguised as attractions. It’s the same for all relationships hetero or not. Finding the “right one” is not easy for sure. The one you plan to spend your entire life with. Which is why amazing character qualities matter so much.
    Ok pressing send😮

I'm not making a statement on what the Bible means about "crossdressing" - but I'm not aware of any verse where Jesus says to "walk a mile in another man's shoes". 😉

I hope JJ finds the Rev. Cheri DiNovo, a queer United Church minister in downtown Toronto who is also a past Member of Provincial Parliament. I think he would feel very much at home in her church.
He can also watch a TedX talk Rev. Cheri gave on the Bible’s teachings around homosexuality. She is an amazing person!

In the KJV, God calls the people in Jerusalem an abomination. It addresses the straight community. See Jeremiah 13.27
