Hello Rad....LE LOUVRE is one of the world's most visited museums in Paris. It is the home of the world's most famous works of arts. Including THE MONA LISA and THE VENUS OF MILOS. As for the song...I JUST LOVE IT!!! You should definitely check out SEASIDE RENDEZVOUS.

Freddie explained the song in an interview to Record Mirror in 1976. "That's the way the mood takes me. Y'know... that's just one aspect of me, and I can really change. Everything on 'Sunday Afternoon' is something that... I'm really, I'm really sort of, I really... well, I love doing the vaudeville side of things. It's quite a sort of test... I love writing things like that and I'm sure I'm going to do more than that... It's quite a challenge."

The song is also a bit "Tongue and cheek Humor". Sort of a spoof of the English way of life in a way. The Louvre , is a famous art Museum in Paris which houses some of the worlds most Famous painting including the Mona Lisa. The joke in the song was ,That he said he is just an ordinary guy...but Fridays he goes painting in the Louvre which is definitely NOT something ordinary people do..

Interesting how they recorded this back in the 70s to get that old-timey feel on the vocal on this song - according to an interview with Roy Thomas Baker, they played the vocal (and I think guitars, but not sure about that) track through a set of headphones placed in a bucket with a microphone and recorded what that mic picked up. Ah, the creativity in the days before digital everything!!! The Night At the Opera album was featured in an episode of Classic Albums discussing how the tracks were made and it was very interesting to see how they worked in the studio. I’ve heard Brian say he doesn’t know how they did some of the things they did in the studio with the technology they had then, but my word, the music has stood the test of time!!

Freddie is pronouncing Louvre differently than Lou. It's "Loov - (then roll the) re". Avec un accent Francais. This reminds of vaudeville and really, really, old movies. A megaphone effect for that unusual sound. It's fun to see just how different Queen can be.

Hey, Rad.. what about the guitar at the end?... if you hadn't cut it off, you might know that it goes straight into Roger's "I'm in Love with my Car" - there were no gaps between songs in Queen's early albums... lol

Check out Queen’s:Life is Real ( Lennon’s song) that Freddie wrote as an homage to John Lennon one of his heroes. The phrasing is uncannily like Lennon! Also try Mustapha which shows the influence Freddie had as a child at a boarding school in Bombay, India. Another great song is Teo Torriatte that Brian wrote with part of it in Japanese and Freddie learned and sang. Queen is beloved in Japan. They even have a national Queen Day!

This song kinda outlines a man’s week & how much he loves his Sunday afternoon, it contains a paradox when he claims to be an ordinary guy from London town but on Fridays goes painting at the Louvre. FYI - Freddie was never from London! 😁🤵🏻‍♂️

I've always loved this little cute song. What is weird to me though is the track placement on the album "Night at the Opera". The first track is a vicious, hard song called "Death on Two Legs" which stops very abruptly, then... this cute, bouncy little song. Strange!

I finally gave in and watched the film and wished I hadn't
They showed Freddie play this at his home on the piano
( his mother wouldn't let him have a piano)
And his father responds you'll never get anywhere trying yo be something your not!
    I HATE that film
I dont understand why they did this
It's even more irritating that in the same scene his father claims Freddie was sent to a school in India to make a good parsi boy out of him!? And because he was unruly !?
    Makes no sense
In zanzibar his father worked for the British Gov as a clerk
They lived in a Parsi community
Sent Freddie to another continent at the age of 7/8 to a boys British style boarding school where they would be taught in English and rp to speak with no accent.
May have been some other parsi kids there but not many so no parsi community
He only saw his parents family in the summer holidays as they lived 7 hours away
His mother ans sister explained his father thought it would be better for him as there wasnt good education in zanzibar
No idea why the film portrayed him this way.
Unruly child they couldnt cope with.
Sent him away to learn parsi values...
Claiming he was now pretending to be something hes not?
They didn’t send him to a good Indian school close to their family but a British school

Its not as if they didnt have any control over it.
This film took 10 years to make I think this was the fith script which they finally agreed to.
Brian said they added a line that showed Brian being rude to Beach and he made sure they took it out as he didn't want the audience to beleive that about him!
But ehen it comes yo Freddie well its fine for people to think he was a complete #
In that scene it also claimed he changed his name legally to mercury and acted all cold about it.no record that he did this.
He called himself Freddie at school because as eell as other things they made fun of his name.
They didnt even bother to pronounce it correctly!
When he came to Brirain he did add Frederick to his name as he'd been known as that for years which is legal in Britain without a formal legal process
His mother said he was nervous telling her he was going to be using Mercury as a stage name and was worried she would be upset.
She said he was respectful to them
I understand they cant do a complete story but it ended up being very misleading
But you can still represent them fairly.
Brian I dont think was close to Freddie and mobey talks!
I am more dissapointed in Roger who had been close to him
      Just remembered the press call
Freddie ' my parents died in a fiery wreck'
      Wtf!?
Freddie took them to early gigs he wasn't trying to hide them!
Freddie stop lying your fans deserve the truth..sexuality
      That really peeved me off.
      Hes entitled to privacy.
He made it as obvious as he could.
When he was asked was he bent.
He laughed and said you crafty cow yes Im as gay as a daffodil!
He wasn't allowed to make statements because of the band and out of respect to his family
The film claimed ge was lying or ashamed
Brian somehow forgot they were called Queen!
' i had a go at Freddie for gaving gay overtones in his songs DSMN was sepratism '
Brian seems yo have most say in things and feels like he used the film to pay back any resentment he'd had.ferls spiteful.
      Sorry for the long rant

Yes, so true! There is a lot more to add. They also create the image that Freddie is always late and never working in the studio, while everyone else is slaving away. Many technicians and engineers have said; that Freddie often spent the most time in the studio. Or one of the most egregious representations within this movie is the idea that only Freddie partied a lot.
All of them liked a few drinks, including Brian. Roger was very well known in the general, in the rock drug and cocaine scene. Roger even makes an appearance in the 'The Dirt', sniffing cocaine alongside Motley Crew. If there was one Queen member that might have had some issues, it was John with his drinking.
Brain has a chip on his shoulder regarding Freddie's solo album. Before Freddie even released this album, he said that he would never tour or do solo shows with this material. This was always a side project for him. He started it when he had some down time in 1983. He liked working, the solo project was something to keep him busy. Most of the Queen members were obviously workaholics. There is an interview with Fred Mandel, who recorded some parts on Mr. Bad Guy, he said Freddie was happily working quite hard on this album. But Freddie immediately left his solo project behind to record The Works, and to do The Works tour.
Mr. Bad Guy took quite awhile to record, it seems like Freddie might have lost some interest along the way. Practically before the album was even done he started thinking about his next project. Freddie barely did any promotion for his album, Roger promoted his solo albums more then Freddie did for Mr. Bad Guy, despite this fact Mr. Bad Guy has sold around 5 million copies to date.
I can understand when a film makes some deviations from the source material, but the idea of Freddie leaving Queen to selfishly pursue his solo career is unacceptable. Of course the rest of Queen were quite happy to use songs from the "very unsuccessful" Mr. Bad Guy for the Made In Heaven album, and they have now even released new recordings of some of this material with Adam Lambert on vocals. Basically Freddie was just represented quite badly in this movie.
The whole premise for how the band was created was also quite incorrect. This movie creates a lot of bad narratives for aspiring musicians. The idea of Freddie just singing a few lines and he immediately joined a successful band. Freddie was in his own bands, he had some experience. Or this idea that Queen just recorded an album and then they have offers form John Reid who wants to represent them. All of these narratives does not show the hard work and struggles of the band, showing these struggles is good storytelling.
Or the idea that Queen somehow dominated Live Aid after not playing together for years. We saw Led Zeppelin trying that experiment, it really did not work that well. There is a far better story here. Queen were the only band that practiced and did some work beforehand, that was a big part of their success. That is a far more realistic story to tell. That you can succeed with some hard work.
Heaven forbid, I have seen some articles about a sequel to this movie. Luckily, I think they screwed up the timeline and details too much for a proper sequel. Personally I would not recommend this movie.

This is reminiscent to the roaring 20s or even the turn of the century 1800/1900 when high society judged each other based on their social schedules. Painting at the Louvre is tongue in cheek because it is a museum housing famous paintings. Not a place one goes to DO paintings. (these are my takes on the song) the sound they make also sends you back to that era like early sound recording styles ... very tin can like and limited frequency. Quite risky to put on a rock album imo. But it was also the 70s much more accepting or expected of trying new things.

The song is open to interpretation, but the impression I get is of a playboy type character from the 1920's who's basically describing a typical week of activities that suggests spending a lot of time enjoying himself. Mondays is the only day he works, full-time, it seems. The rest of the week he's indulging in various leisurely pursuits, riding bicycles on Wednesday evenings, waltzing to the zoo on Thursdays and painting in the Louvre, (which you probably already know by now is a famous Gallery in Paris, France), on Fridays. Saturday nights would suggest he gets amorous with ladies to the point of wanting to propose. Whether it's due to the influence of alcohol isn't known, but that he's lazing on a Sunday afternoon, may well suggest it. This and, 'Seaside Rendezvous', go together like a couple of bookends, by the way. The other song that has a similar vibe would be, 'Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy.' Although, that one has a little less of a vaudeville feel to it than the 2 previously mentioned songs.
