- Parts of Texas were hit by severe storms, including strong winds, intense hail and flash flooding. The weather forced temporary ground stops at airports in Dallas and Houston. More than two dozen people were killed in severe weather in numerous states over the Memorial Day weekend. There have been 1,016 tornado reports since the beginning of the year, making it the second most active tornado season. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports.

I’ve never understood the wooden homes. If anyone from Texas, please explain. Is it because the debris is lighter and safer? Because, if these can move a ✈️, then a cement home may be fair game for these 🌪️

@@lucycarolaMost homes in TX have brick exterior or wood/wood-effect exterior. That is standard across North America except the SW and Florida where Stucco is frequently used. The homes are building with wood framing, and contrary to what you’ll read on the internet, it’s actually an incredibly sturdy method of building and we have some of the best build homes in the world due to the regulations around it. Wood framing is generally the method for building homes in all first world countries as well. You’ll find cement block and complete brick homes here just like you’ll find across the world, but it’s more expensive and impractical to build as such. Wood frame homes survive hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, wind storms, blizzards, etc., every day and are the standard for building in almost all developed nations.
Most of the people who you see commenting and making fun of American homes saying “my house in Europe is made with concrete block” typically live in older homes. We do have some homes here that are also concrete block. Most homes in their own countries are wood frame as well. Also, most homes that are brick are not actually brick either, it’s a brick veneer. That means it’s a traditionally framed house, with wood, and brick is put on the outside for styling. Very rarely is a house actually fully brick. If you pause the video at 2:10 you can see what I mean. Almost no one in North America lives in a home that is not wood-framed. Not just TX.

I saw a hail report west of Lubbock, Tx today estimated at 5" in diameter. BTW bathtubs don't provide the protection they used to. They are made of plastic now.

I honestly don’t think there is any type of construction that can handle a tornado’s destructive power no matter how many regulations you throw at it.

It's crucial to ensure that any new regulations are well-designed and implemented to make a meaningful impact on the situation.
@@visiontv68 there’s a guy that proposed doing what we do in PR. We had the flooding issue and we used channel systems that help, but sometimes overflow. Then, an architect named Pesquera who was the head of infrastructure, implements the super aqueduct system of irrigation. And what it does is bring the excess water to the drier areas to avoid drought or excessive flooding. This was like in 1998. We’ve been quite well since then until Maria. And Cabo Rojo barely hot hit. My mom never lost water and electricity was being rationed but because of the city folks. As the rainwater needs to be treated before it can enter that aqueduct. But, they even had phone service. Limited for the benefit of the most affected, so everyone can get a chance to call. But, there’s a guy who has been trying to do that since the 70s and the government will simply not give him his patent. He’s probably dead by now. The does gets to tap our ‘discretionary spending’ coffers when they send us aid with what they themselves call pork. 🤣 We don’t need these many droughts, wild fires, flooding or catastrophic tornadoes destroy everything in sight.

Today here in Cypress Texas, we were alerted to a "thunderstorm" turned into 20 minutes of hard rain and hail that shut power down about 4 hrs!
A week ago it was a "thunderstorm" that turned into an EF1 Tornado!

I'm not trying to be rude, but God did not put that tornado shelter there. If you go through a tragedy like these tornados, God will be there for you.

@@cmerton There are many basements in the mid west. Is there a possibility to advance building standards to consider underground habitation? It would be safer in tornados, milder winters and summer temperatures, it's an option to consider.

The radar weather modification experiments are getting ridiculous
I remember growing up in Florida in the 1980s and we got Tornados ALL the time, we were fortunate to live in a brick home and not a Trailor at a Trailor park or In an aluminum sided and tin roof casa. I I hated Tornados worse than anything to include Hurricanes, and I seen plenty of those growung up all the time but they were predicted and tracked,, Tornados are not! I remember seeing my friends Entire trailor park destroyed like a bunch of toothpics during a Tornado, the route and twists and turns it took was unbelievable. All storm years are different, In Florida it seemed to always be bad living on the Coast and Id reckon as expected. I moved away, We still get [Typhoon] here but not on the scale as it was at least ten years ago. Its one of our two seasons here: Hot season and Typhoon/Monsoon season, but we DO NOT get TORNADOS, only Seen a few WATER SPOUTS…🇺🇸✌🏻🍻
