Great analysis! Though I think the piece starts out in C minor, the closing section is just a return to the beginning section. There's a repeated Eb under the repeated G in the opening piano part, and the bass part that comes in is outlining a C minor chord.
I was actually just transcribing this and didn't catch the G (all I heard was the Eb and the moving line above it) so I'm glad I saw this, heh.
Thanks for pointing that out! My transcription skills are admittedly...not the best (shudders at memory of my ear training classes). Glad I could be of some help! :)
Short answer: it slaps
That it does
High key
And that's called jazz !
Exactly!
*YOU LIKE JAZZ*
Definitely yes!
*ya like j a z z*
its more like rock and jazz ngl
*pretends to know what he's talking about* "yeah"
:thinking emoji:
I love it cuz it’s a banger.
That it is
What’s even unique is that the OP is literally English French and Japanese at the same time.
Actually I don’t even know what I’m hearing
lmao
This tune is almost be like jojo blood stream opening
@Autobot Star Platinum or both
@Autobot Star Platinum NANI?!
I dont know shit about music but this op sounds a lot like Tank! to me.
It's pretty dope, I never skip it which is rare. syncopation makes me hard.
I can definitely see that connection
*when haru kissed the snoop it was to to cute i cri*
😵
I’m here because I finished the anime, the current manga chapters, character analysis videos...
me too hahahah
The 3 dislikes were Haru's 3 bullies
I have no clue what he's saying but I vibe with it!
we all just vibin
me too bruh
Yeah… 😂
1:12
idk why
it reminds me of jojo part 2 OP
I learned more from this vid than my chorus teacher ever could lol
Glad to be of service haha
Same to be honest
TBH, same😂
Oh yeah, Land of the Lustrous also has a jazzy syncopated OP too, didn’t it?
Kinda neat seeing that again from this studio.
(also I was able to follow along with your explanation pretty well)
Yeah, there's quite a few similar elements between the two and they and their shows are fantastic. Here's hoping Orange keeps delivering :)
Would love to see an analisis on why the full official song is generally more disliked than the opening cut
I was unaware that that was the consensus (tbh, up till now I hadn't heard the full version). Don't think that would be enough for a full video, I like the full song, though I can understand the take because the OP cut has a very nice conclusive resolution, so the full version feels like a somewhat artificial extension (a common issue with songs made with the primary intention of being anime OPs)
I think it's just because the best part takes longer to get to in the Full version. The music that plays when they start dancing is much later. Nothing of much importance fills the new gap.
Summed up: The full version literally puts in Musical Filler.
@@CaptainCFalcon i like the filler tbh
@@eemansuhail I mean it's enjoyable, it's just not as good.
@@CaptainCFalcon Yes I agree on that. The best part is mainly why I like that song so much
That walking bassline is SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Playing this song on the drums (and bass soon) is so much fun!
Oh yeah i could imagine!
That was the perfect level of musical explanation
Great stuff.
tfw an op slaps so much you make a 7 minute video essay about it.
I'm pretty sure this is wrote in C minor with modulations to the relative major and back to the home key.
I'm glad someone appreciates the theory behind the music as well as the music itself (I analysed this one to hell and back when I first heard it) I just couldn't help but be so captivated by it.
As soon as I heard what you said in the short answer I just thought to myself, finally someone who knows what they're talking about rather than just looking at it, at its face value. Awesome video.
Yeah I see that now, as someone pointed out in the comment I pinned. Thanks for the kind words!
I love Beastars. I love music theory and production, been a fan of Adam Neely, Rick Beato and 8bit Music Theory for years.
Awesome and concise video!
Glad you enjoyed, I'm a big fan of Adam Neely, he does great work. Also really like the channel Sideways for more music theory goodness.
Never thought someone would analysis Beastars op
Good job 👍
I was waiting for this analysis. :D
Glad I was able to deliver!
now this is some good shit
I liked that it confused me in the beginning piano part
That's def one of my favorite aspects of it.
Whenever I watch Beastars, I always wait till it goes "DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN" and strike a gundham tanaka pose
My Answer: *J A Z Z*
Damn awesome vid. How old are you? You're so clever...I understood everything you said as a musician but you seem to have a lot of musical knowledge and analysis skills, did you/are you studying music?
Thanks man! I'm 20 (almost 21, actually). I did go to college for 2 years under a music performance degree (Viola), but ended up dropping out after I realized I was more interested in creation and composition than playing music written by other people. Still try to use the theory knowledge I gained from it whenever I can, though.
@@korisnthere you lost all credibility when you said you played viola ✋🙄 /j
@@korisnthere ayyyy another viola player
~~sacrilegious~~
Now this is some good fucking JAZZZZZZZZ great video beastars is such a great series and it's definitely my favourite opening of 2019
Thanks! I'd definitely rank it pretty highly...only other contenders that come to mind off the top of my head are Kaguya-sama and DomeKano (though that one only really for the music, the visuals are just ok)
It really pulls you in with that jazz
I noticed how the opening sounds different to the full song. The moment the scene transitions from Legoshi and Haru finishing their dance to Legoshi looking traumatized has a sound that feels ominous. I think they left out some of the drums for the Anime version.

Fantastic analysis.
great video! it motivated me to practice playing keyboard. i love this song so much.
That's awesome! Thank you!
I found my favourite band from this op
Thank you for the music theory lesson, I NEED more!!! 😊
I still try do OP analysis videos every now and then ^_^
It just works.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
as a music theory nerd AND a beastars stan i deeply appreciate this video
Thanks a ton!
Of course, a huge part of what makes this OP one of my all time favorites is the excellent music that I want to jam to and is jazzy as hell (but a mix of genres, which is also 😩), but I'm also a total sucker for stop motion animation and dance. It basically has everything I adore. Just... Guh! So good! Netflix trying to skip this intro every time offended me. Lmao 😂
What a great song.
I always usually skip the intro of a show but I’ve never once skipped the Beastars OP
great ! Thanks !
I don’t even watch the show, but holy crap I can’t get over it.
what a great analysis and video
Thank you!
2:43 BASS
1st video I've seen from your channel. Watching this made me wish I didnt quite my high school band. I would've loved to learn to play more instruments
Never too late to start, though I say that hypocritically as I neglect the keyboard I bought 6 months ago...
I like the analysis, great video
Thank you!
This is great bro
Thanks man!
El mejor opening 👌
My most fav child hood song
Not what i expected but Cool!
Other reason: Sounds like Jojo, so it sounds good
The opening asks me if I like Jazz. I do now.
why is there so few views. deserves waaaay more. awesome vid
This op along with death parade's op SLAPS
Indeed it does
I don’t even love the anime but I love the song
it's just that good!
I love both honestly. They’re my favorite of both categories.
Great opening.
I dunno shiz bout music in technical aspects, but this was enjoyable
Thank ya
thanks kor
now we know
Anytime ;)
Fun fact: “ALI”, the band that made this song also made lost in paradise, that one outro from jujutsu kaisen that everyone loves. Clearly they know what they’re doing 😂
Because it's groovy
Much information
Could you analyze the Bojack Horseman opening theme?
Gosh man, you *really* broke that down...
thank you....I think? lol
you could just say that it's because it's good
Hey, could you analyze Dorohedoro's OP, "Welcome to Chaos" by (K)NoW_NAME? There's something strangely catchy about that op to me.
Legosi is a teen wolf In a old wolves body
Honestly the music is okay but the visuals are awesome
I love both!
I do like jazz
What type of music is this, is it really jazz?
I'd say so, maybe like a light jazz/hip-hop fusion, but from a scoring perspective it seems to fit pretty nicely into that big band kinda style
@@korisnthere thanks! This song is really one of a kind
daddy
OMG your the guy who did the epic English cover
o.o
The like to dislike ratio is ridiculous. 99.7% of the likes and dislikes are likes! That's the highest i have ever seen in a video!
I ,really, like this video.
i got nothing he just said but i love the OP
same
garth brooks
Literally only four dislikes in 9 months, that's crazy I wonder why there's any honestly.
Why You Love Kaguya Sama's OP
Hmm....maybe
dr pimple popper blackhead
also im a jojo fan
I have no idea what you're talking about.
Here i though i just liked it because it sounds great but ok
*I don't know shit about music*
1500 likes and 4 dislikes...
Нихуя не понял, хуле нам не англичанинам. 🤧
Do Erase
This was terrific! A lot went over my head, but this was still fascinating to listen to. Even though I have almost no music theory knowledge, part of me also wonders if there's some connection between the musical styles and the show's themes: the "big band" sound sort of hearkens back to film noir, which I see as in line with the show's murder-mystery storyline (those syncopated measures sound very familiar too--sort of like "Don't Rain On My Parade"--is there a musical allusion to another song being made there?), while the rap is evocative of Beastar's contemporary setting. And the swing interlude toward the end, to me, feels emblematic of romance in a way--a dance that requires a partner. Maybe another layer, I don't know. And that's called jazz!
why is there so few views. deserves waaaay more. awesome vid
Thank you!
