- An important addition to the recently released 'Pitts Line' for Run 8 and set down the western slope is the 'South Fork Secondary', a branch that is 100% coal with 3 separate coal mines on 2 different lines extending 30 miles with grades of almost 2.5%.
We'll take a look at the SFS as a whole and then cover some operations within.
Let's go!

Hey, I'm from this town! I live right in front of the Pittsburgh division mainline! I love to see the trains go by. I've only ever seen a set of locomotives sitting idling in the yard near the one crossing we have in town. Sometimes I see trains going by and stopped on the track that runs onto the secondary but idk if they're from that or not. I love seeing the Amtrak and the heritage locomotives go past. I've even seen the Juniata shops and there was a heritage locomotive getting work done when I drove past it.
The first portion of the map without the vegetation is what came with Pittsburgh East line, right around the part where the vegetation starts is where this DLC starts, approximately. Thanks for the review.
Wow, I haven't seen that part of town in many years. I lived in Moxham part of Johnstown, a historic district in an old 1920 Victorian, which went to hell since 1999-2000, and moved to South Fork in a 1920 brick farmhouse. Most houses in Windber proper are newer these days. That trolly area is now gone. But I remember town square in Windber being beautiful and it's full of railroad history. I went to a guy's house full of railroad memorabilia everywhere, and my aunt in Winder had an attic with a huge model railroad layout. I always thought that rail line in Windber through town was shut down.
I've also seen trains stopped at the old South Fork Dam that started the Great Johnstown Flood of 1889. The town of South Fork was established in 1887. The flood didn't really touch South Fork because the dam was a town over and down stream, and it's all pretty much on a hillside.
Thanks for the guided tour! Helped me to have a better understanding of the South Fork secondary line.
Above South Fork near Mineral Point, between the two towns and Summerhill on the hill is a Rosebud mine. It's on and off with the activity.
The towns of St. Michael and Sidman were underwater, all but the cottages were underwater. Once it broke, they found coal and iron under the old lake bed, so they established mines and towns along with them.
First thing I notice is the Little Conemaugh River 6:16 to the right of the tracks is missing. Windber town only has 9 crossings. 19:34 Paint Creek is missing which runs all the way up past Rose Bud Mine on the southside right side of tracks, which tells me someone doesn't like Rivers and Creeks ha-ha. 20:54 the Mine itself is bigger than this in real life and doesn't have a massive hill behind it as in game does.
Windber got its name from the coal company that founded it, Berwind Coal Company, which the town is the coal company rearranged.
Thanks for the tour
Forgive the constant comments, I'm commenting while watching. But I feel you on the bodies of water. The little Conemaugh and South Fork of it should only be called creeks. And the Stonycreek has both terms, lol. And sorry if you cover stuff that I comment on as well.
There's only one REAL rail sim, and it's RUN8!
AMEN!!!
I can imagine SimRail potentially putting up a good fight in the future too especially once Searchlight Simulations releases their CPKC route for it, but it's still too early to tell now though. Plus, there's also OpenRails which does an incredible job for what it is although I can understand why some people don't care for it. But yeah, for a modern North American freight simulator complete with realistic operations, automatic dispatching, and sandbox gameplay, nothing comes even *close* to Run8 right now.
And I thought loading 110 cars at .20-.30mph was painful enough...forget the front end loader.
Those EMD sounds though!
When’s the next railroader video coming out
It is sparse and barren to aid in rendering speed since the game is loading so many cars at 1 time they reduced scenery to keep glitching to a minimum
pls make altamont commuter express repaint
CNJ!!!
The skyhook route aint shit, this way betzer
34:50
some of these super realistic sims seems boring. Would rather just get a job on a railroad and make a living
Tell me you don't understand a real railroad career without telling me you don't understand a real railroad career.
I hope you someday find the attention you are searching for.
That’s the entire point of a simulator.
You live up to your name 😂
almost like the flight sim people that fly 9 hour flights
Probably a little bit of black spruce here and there. In eastern pa we have a lot of "Norway" European spruce but I don't know if the practice of planting it made it out that far.
