I saw Tesla open for Def Leppard in 1987 and both bands kicked ass. When Tesla wrote this song for Steve it was heartfelt from years of touring with them. The guitars are both playing in Steve’s unique style. Very touching song!
While stationed in the Air Force, I learned EVERY TESLA tune on guitar in South Dakota during the winter snowstorms. It kept me SANE! Frankie Hannon is a BEAST ON LEAD!
There are lots of good dual lead bands out there. Tesla, Whitesnake, the mighty Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy, Eagles, Queensryche, Scorpions, Night Ranger and to a lesser degree Aerosmith and Metallica, along with many others. This particular song started as a song about a homeless street musician. After the sudden and tragic death of Steve Clark (of Def Leppard) they rewrote much of the song as a tribute to their good friend and touring mate. The lead guitars are very reminiscent of Stephens style of playing and in my opinion this is one of the greatest tribute songs ever.
My hometown boys! South Sacramento, CA. I grew up watching these guys play the high school shows and sat in Frank's bedroom while he played just about any song we asked him....we were all 13 or 14 years old and he told us he was going to be a rockstar......and here ya go. Couldn't be any more proud of these dudes.
Many people do not realize this song was written and sang for the lead guitar player for Def Leppard who died tragically. They even duplicate his guitar licks in this song.
Def Leppard never sounded the same without Steve Clark, Hysteria was an amazing album. "Die Hard the Hunter" live showcases how entertaining Steve was live. Glad I saw them together back in a the day.
You must praise Steve Clark in this, and should know him, he is from UK. If you listen to Def Leppard part of the solos were from a Steve solo. Such a sad story but a genius musician.
Glad you all enjoyed it. Pretty spot on with your assessment of his voice and how you either love it or hate it. They flew under a lot of radars but they're an incredible live band and still touring their asses off 37 years in. Still 3/5 original members. Brunette guitar player has been out since mid 2000's and drummer recently stepped away, about 2 years now. Not sure yet how I feel about the new drummer but the 2nd guitar player has worked out great. Thanks guys, great job as always \m/ \m/
Need to do MODERN DAY COWBOY is a must HANG TOUGH is a banger WHAT YOU GIVE. Is a banger you will love them hope that helps y'all killing it and are my favs
One of the most underrated bands and probably one of the best live bands ever.
This is a tribute to Steve Clark former guitarist from Def Leppard!
