I used to be horrified of spiders, one of my biggest fears. I also used to be at least mildly afraid of most bugs in general. But I just kept watching videos about people handling them, and now I'm known as the one in the family who will hold any bug- spiders included. These kinds of videos really work like a charm, honestly you came to the right place!
Keep doing what you're doing. Hank is a great ambassador. I've always loved snakes, so I'm just happy to see people who have been taught to be afraid trying for understanding. Nobody has to go out catching wild snakes, just admire them and don't kill them.
Australia’s red-bellied black snakes look a lot like eastern indigos and Australian copperheads are similar in appearance to Texas indigos. Of course those snakes are venomous though not terribly toxic.
I saw a huge one, at the ranch in north tx, close to red river, first one I’ve seen in 40 yrs, had to be 8’ I’ve seen 6+’ Rattlers, this thing dwarfed it!
Hey Hank, didn’t know you had another RUclips channel, looks like this video might be from my old stomping grounds in southeast Texas. I remember seeing a huge Indigo right on the other side of a chain link fence when I was a kid around New Caney. Keep putting out the great storm chasing videos and now I can watch ya catch some of the critters I caught as a kid around Fritch and Conroe Texas! Horny toads and collard lizards in Fritch and snakes, lizards and turtles too numerous to count around Conroe, man I miss those days!
I'm sure it only bit because it was scared and wanted to be released. No offense to your next of kin, but it's funny how she was way more relaxed when being handled by the master himself.
Oh my goodness I loved this video so much :) I feel the same way you feel about blue indigos. That feeling of awe and admiration. I hope to see one in person and maybe even hold one in my lifetime 😍
Both your channels has an impeccable like to dislike ratio which surprises me a tad that not one person with snake phobia hasn't hit the dislike button. You're truly a beautiful soul so I'm happy to see the likes on your videos dominate the dislike 100s to 0.
Georgia has the Eastern Indigo snake, also threatened or endangered, can’t remember which but I’m thankful they are protected. They are mostly in South Georgia but I have seen one in northern middle Georgia. Beautiful snake!
1 species I never got to witness in the wilds of Florida, only in reptile zoos/houses. They're damn near extinct down there like my other fav The Florida Pine Snake.
My coworker was lucky (although she didn't think so) to have one about the size of the guy in this video at her house. Apparently here in Lakeland we have a bunch, but I haven't seen one either. :( Indigoes that is
I'm also from Florida, and the snake I literally haven't seen in 20yrs is the scarlett king snake. We saw them fairly regularly when I was growing up in Jax. Not anymore. Very sad.
Cool video. There are no Indigo's where I live, but there are plenty of black racer and rat snakes the get to about the same size. They're always hanging around my yard in the summer hunting field mice and keeping Copperheads away. It's free pest control lol
I live in north Texas so that's why I've ain't seen one. They eat diamondbacks. We need a bunch of them up here. I have nightmares of giant rattlesnakes.
So many beautiful snake species... the indigo is one of the most stunning! Haven't had the pleasure to see one live, but I'll never pass any chance to view them on videos or in photos. Sorry your buddy got a couple bites. Bet he thinks it was worth it though. :)
Florida indigos are protected as well, mostly because of habitat loss. They depend on gopher tortoise burrows for shelter. I'm curious if it's the same for the Texas indigos?
I saw an adult the other day in the park I skate at near the creek. I stopped, let it cross and continued to skate. My back was sore, so I needed the break. Lol. I saw its baby this morning.
I was driving down a caliche road in South Texas and drove up on a what I thought was a black car tire and to my surprise was a huge indigo sun bathing ! I had no clue those things get that big had to be 6 foot easy!
Texas parks and wildlife dropped 1,000 Timber Rattlesnakes near my friend’s place in East Texas, he wants Texas parks and wildlife to drop off 300 Texas Indigos there now
Keighly W A cat bite or scratch is far worse. If a colubrid snake bites you & you don't rip it off its not to bad & leaves a cool horseshoe shaped scar lol.
If the snake was bright green it'd look exactly like another snake that's the complete opposite, highly venomous and aggressive, I just can't remember the name.
I wonder if you could shed some light on a story my dad used to tell us. He used to work in oil exploration in west Texas during the 40's and 50's. He said there was an over population of rattlesnakes. He said the US government brought in Indigo snakes to help clear out some of the rattlesnakes. He also said that the snakes that were released were tattooed on their bellies with a US symbol. They were not to be harmed. I have been trying to find proof of this story. Do any Texas snake experts have knowledge of this or have heard this story also?
I grew up in Nueces County. We normally deer hunted near Hebronville or Freer where they were occasionally seen over 8 feet long. The government import story was often told around there too, but it is unlikely.
@@shiitakestick No kidding... So you'd think they wouldn't have put in the narration stating exactly the opposite of what happened in the video, right?
I remember when I was a young boy I saw one and didn't know what it was and call my grandad and he let me shoot it. Didn't know back then it wasn't venomous. It was headed for under the house.
I subscribed hoping to desensitize myself and reduce my fear of snakes. Your calm demeanor leaves me hopeful.
Hang in there Angela. They're like puppies once ya get to know em.
Nah....

What an incredibly gorgeous creature! Thanks so much for this video dear.
Great footage of a beautiful snake. Wish we had Indigo Snakes here in Australia!
We have womba python's
Australia’s red-bellied black snakes look a lot like eastern indigos and Australian copperheads are similar in appearance to Texas indigos. Of course those snakes are venomous though not terribly toxic.
@@mattslev Yeah I kept those already.
Michael Duggan - well then you have to try snuggling up with a nice Taipan or a 9 foot Mulga perhaps ?

That snake looks like a land eel with the extra skin on top of its body.
Indigos don’t have extra skin. They inflate their necks to appear larger when they feel threatened.
I appreciate these informative videos. Thank you for sharing 😊
I'm sure it only bit because it was scared and wanted to be released. No offense to your next of kin, but it's funny how she was way more relaxed when being handled by the master himself.
Please, offend Spencer. It's easy and it's fun :D One of these decades he'll learn how to handle a snake right.
Undoubtedly he will, with a teacher like that. :-D
"You sure that's not a King Cobra?" lol. Cool Video man. What a gorgeous looking snake!
Indigos are certainly one of the coolest North American snakes! Great video:)
Thanks dude. Happy herping.

It's a beauty but I still wouldn't want to pick him up by myself! Haha! 💙
You know what's really weird? We ran across one of those today. Great video Hank.
Searches RUclips for Indigo snake, finds Pecos Hank video about one. Perfect Monday.
Love the commentary haha. Thinking about getting one of these bad boys.
Hank you have a way with the critters!

Eastern indigos only occur in southeast Georgia.
Alright Hank, where's the tornado? Snakenado?

The snake didnt like Spencer's hat.
Who would win Indigo vs King snake?
DUDE I get that Longhair's feels...
You are really the snake whisperer

What kind of mammals do they eat? I was hoping if they would not eat my Little dog possibly one could be in my yard to eat the Rattle snakes 🐍
Why would you just let a snake bite you and then bite you again?
You reminded me of Bob (the psycho snake kid) in the Prisoners movie. Detective Loki is knocking on your door. 😅
Please do some videos on the gopher/bull snake, coral snake, scarlet snake
What a beautiful creature!
A good snake for pest control.
Goid that this snake is harmless.
Indigo snakes are awesome.
First minute: That sounds like Pecos Hank. 3:08 : Well what do you know it is!
Yep, surprised me too we watch all his storm chasing videos.
Great Video
Pecos Hank!? Is that youuuuu? :-O
Texas should breed and release these very useful snakes by the thousands.. I've been seeing too many coral and coppers here in central Texas.
Cool snake, but I'm still glad I live in a cold climate.
Is this in Brazos Bend State Park?
I wish. We don't have indigos this far north.
Oh yeah like needles...This guys got balls
Texas parks and wildlife dropped 1,000 Timber Rattlesnakes near my friend’s place in East Texas, he wants Texas parks and wildlife to drop off 300 Texas Indigos there now
I always wanted one of these as a kid. Don't really like longer snakes anymore, i want a hognose or rubber boa.
I trust snakes more than people.
And I thought cat bites hurt...that looked like a painful nibble!
Keighly W A cat bite or scratch is far worse. If a colubrid snake bites you & you don't rip it off its not to bad & leaves a cool horseshoe shaped scar lol.
Where'd he go? Ohhh IN-di-go! :)
This video should be called "Jesus appears to hold a snake that he's always wanted to."
If the snake was bright green it'd look exactly like another snake that's the complete opposite, highly venomous and aggressive, I just can't remember the name.
I hope you disinfect that bite. They do look close to the infamous king cobra. My favorite species of snake!

Narrative.......straight from the pages of Wikipedia....
Beautiful.
"They never bite" ... *snake bites arm*... "But when they do bite, they only bite once"... *snake bites arm again*...
you know they add the narration AFTER they shoot the movie , not during ?
@@shiitakestick No kidding... So you'd think they wouldn't have put in the narration stating exactly the opposite of what happened in the video, right?
Phoenix Rising - not if they were trying to be humorous & ironic .
@@shiitakestick my comment was trying to be humorous and ironic. 😉
Phoenix Rising - well then ; ha haa !
Whould lobe to have snakes for pests but im too scared of them biting and attacking
Hi can you help me identify a snake? He is black with just a few white dots on him. I am in South East Texas if that helps any. Lol
That's about a quarter of them. What else can you tell me? round pupils?
Wild Snakes yes he did i spotted him in the grass and when i walked up to him he ducked down and took off.
Possibly a speckled kingsnake
It's not an illegal snake to own.
from the wild yes it is but from a breeder no it’s not illegal
Wow
What Indigo snake is not venomous?.
No they're not.
Likes a Koros snake.
Grand descendant of Mosasaurus.
Does anybody kno were I can find one for $1000
Hello Texan Jesus
Зачем пугать змею? Заставлять ее кусать. Змея напугана, ее схватил великан
