Tip of the day. Take out the two muffler bots and flip them so the bolt is coming from the bottom, and the nut is coming from the top. It will make it easy to remove the muffler in the future, leaving the bracket on the engine. The 3 nuts that hold the bracket are pain to remove while in the car. Good luck with the rest of the project.
Hi Finn, a question on the Graphogen. Why is it necessary if the cams and bearing surfaces have a layer of engine oil on them? Thanks and great content as always.
Hello Jon 🙌 My understanding is two fold 1. Gravity - By the time you get the engine all bolted into the car, much of the oil will run off the friction surfaces and drain into the sump. Thicker assembly lube will sit on the surfaces for much longer. 2. Oil pressure - when first cranked, there is zero oil pressure, thick assembly lube keeps parts from touching until enough oil pressure builds. Thats my 2 cents, Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
Ha Ha Thanks Tom! It does have an aggressive snort as you get over 4k 🥳 There is still an electrical gremlin of some sort, I'm not sure if it's the Y cable or some other voltage drop, still messing with it..... Thank you for watching 🤘😎
I love watching your videos, even if I may never have to do the same repairs. At a minimum, they make me understand much better how my engine is built and what to pay attention to, in case a problem presents itself down the road.
@@ManinaGarage Overzealous noob here, so not at all 😁 ... my '99 Carrera 4 cab has sprung its first ever oil leak and it seems to be coming from the cam covers
Thank you for excellent videos. You surpass the self proclaimed 996 gurus and scuttled the IMS fear mongering. If you decided to publish a pictorial manual I will be your first customer. Cheers mate.
Always enjoying watching your videos on the 996. One day I'll habe one too and I have a feeling these videos will come in handy. About the ignition coils... I thought a "coil pack" is a set of ignition coils. So when we talk about one single ingition coil, we say ignition coil and not "coil pack". Maybe someone with mote experience then me could shime in.
More learning, your right 🙌 each one is just a coil not a "Coil Pack" 🤓 Thank you very much for watching 🤘😎 Progress has been made... ruclips.net/video/njzwt6xYTXI/видео.html
Thanks for that ! I was wondering if at some point you could make us a DIY on how to set up a project like yours, especially now that you have all hindsight. I am thinking of the variety of logistics and tricks that goes into successfully getting through such a project. More specifically, how do you find the adequate documentation? How do you stay organized? And maybe a note on the financial aspect, as I am sure that all the parts involved sum up to a heavy toll. Anyway many thanks for the great content, car wise I only watch your channel, M539 Restorations and ChrisFix. PS: As previously mentioned, I am really looking for to seeing you drive the car hard on nice roads 😊😎👍
Hello Philippe, I never have adequate documentation. For example in the upcoming Transmission episode, I was flying completely blind. Originally I had the Bentley manual but that does not go very deep into the engine plus I have found (after the fact) that it has odd/pointless procedures in it. Subscribers like you have been the best way to get information, some people have sent me photocopies of torque specs and things like that. I am a list maker, I keep gathering information until I have enough to type out a procedure. I then print that sheet out and bring it to the garage. Money-wise, I have talked about parts prices here and there. My personal focus is on "learning" and so the episodes are heavily geared in that direction. When the car is "Finished" aka "smogged and registered" I will do an episode going over all the costs involved. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

7:45 torque spec for cam cover bolts is 13 Nm (or 10 ft-lbs, maybe that's where the confusion is)-not 10 Nm
Top notch video there, Finn! How hard do you think it would be to do with the engine in the car still?
Hello Jay, sadly I have no experience with Boxsters. If you can get access, the job itself is pretty easy. Good luck🍀
