This performance is breathtaking....Josh has an incredible voice..... It must have been fantastic to be there on the night,to hear such a wonderful perfomance live....
It goes a bit beyond that. There's something about his tone that really touches you. If he were too perfect it wouldn't quite work the same emotionally. I'm a grown man and father and this is just one of his songs that leaves me blubbing!! He's amazing.
Thanks so much for posting this - I just missed his performance and was frantically looking for it on BBC iplayer. A truly flawless performance - My favourite performer of all time. Even on Buzzcocks he blew me away with his quick-on-the-uptake humour. Brilliant Josh
This is truly the greatest rendition ever. With Josh's beautiful, clear, rich, powerful voice, this song is finally given justice and recognition worldwide that it for so long deserved. Thank you so much Josh and it's an honor for me to hear you sing.
I agree with you...Josh Groban is phenomenal...But listen also to Lawrence Gray singing Gethsemane and Phantom. He is also phenomenal. I have been Lawrence's fan for many years and each time I hear him sing, I get shivers down my spine. Over the years I have seen him receive so many standing ovations!! See him. I believe you will enjoy hearing him.
Thanks for that. I've just listened to the guy and he has indeed got an excellent voice. I don't know, all these guys..so young..so talented..me so bloody jealous. Oh to have their gift.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I am sad that I couldn't be there for this performance but had the pleasure of seeing Josh in Chess twice, if you remember. Oooh goosebumps again Josh, you never cease to amaze me. Cheers. Angel
I ain't bothered if Josh sings opera. rap or just in the bath at home. This guy has a phenomenal voice that brings me out in goosebumps every time I hear him. Forget the comparisons, Josh is simply the best singer of his genre that I have heard in decades (and I have heard a hell of a lot of stuff in my 49 years)
That's also kind of like in the Sailor Moon episode "One Young Man Throat", where Usagi and her boyfriend Mamoru get annoyed by that unknown opera singer, who is voiced by Josh Groban.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!JOSH I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!SUCH A VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! FROM HEAVEN--AN ANGEL ON EARTH!many greetings from Elke

Tommy Korberg, or Michael Ball make the Anthem their own, hard to choose between them, Josh is not in the same league, this version was weak and lacked passion although I admit he is a good singer, just not up to the standard of Tommy and Michael !
I agree about the pit band (though I suspect a cut-down orchestration is to blame rather than the drummer, who was probably just following the score in front of him). Can't say this is the best rendition I've ever heard of the song, though... is it just me, or is young Mr Groban just a tad flat at times? Thanks for that. I've just listened to the guy and he has indeed got an excellent voice.

Wow!
Well done! Be sure to please also check out and download Brad Robins' version as well! If you love this song I think you will be glad you did.

*spazzes*
Is it just me, or is he not just the most amazing person?
*feels idiotic for drooling on keyboard*
IS THAT CAPTAIN JACK?? OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Sorry - typo - drumming around 3:50
Josh Groban is sounded like Paul Paddick from the Wiggles at 3:24
Good version, I agree Tommy Korberg i also great....but have you seen Lee Mead Sing this? google it watch it.....Just do it!!!!
@XOOOOElizabethOOOOX yep. lol
THUD!
@XOOOOElizabethOOOOX I though the same! ahahha
Does John Barrowman sing opera?
where's the standing O!?
Groban sounds like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
No gaston sounds like josh groban i think josh groban should get the role of gaston instead of the beast
Wait, was the Only Men Aloud actually vocalizing and harmonizing to the song, and Josh was singing opera?
Yes, it looked like Only Men Aloud are harmonizing and it looked like Josh Groban was singing Anthem in opera. And another thing about the only thing Josh Groban sings opera, it's his choice of how he studied classical opera for three years.
Josh Groban singing Anthem feeling good by singing in an opera voice.
That's also kind of like in the episode of Jena Wakeman with Josh Groban as Jennifer Wakeman's robot husband, Larry Wakeman feeling good by singing in an opera voice when he sings Anthem from Chess. Larry Wakeman was lip syncing and it looked like he was imitating Josh Groban in opera singing Anthem from Chess which was the only song where Josh Groban, Chris Sarandon and the Wakeman Children sing together.
He is awesome! Such an inspiration! Please check me out under come What May-Mark johnson! thanks.Have a great christmas!!
Rhydian?? Leave it out pal... no weirdo's aloud... and did you listen to JOsh's intro?? if not re-play it an listen again.. best opera singer ever in the world... so save your stupid comments and put them in your little pocket that would probably fit all your little rydian fans in!!!
I wish in the Anthem song if Josh and Rhydian can sing together.
The character is singing about Russia.
Josh is amazing. His talent is unmatched. I would appreciate some feedback on my recording of Anthem as well. I want to know the opinion of Groban fans. Do I have a shot? Please let me know. Look up brad robins sings anthem. thanks yall!
Did you know that Josh loves opera?
Umm Mr Tamzzin....some men have the talent to sing higher than most men...some can be sopranos
hehe you make it sound like tommy is dead :P I'm sure he likes josh :)
Is Josh Groban singing country music?
I forgot how he looked shaved
What was wrong with his upper range?
Flat as a pancake every time he went above D.
They shoulda got Rhydian to sing
John Barrowman-warum sind solche Männer immer schwul!!!
Josh Groban-GENIAL
He's not a tubby ex-cell phone salesman with a gap in his teeth. So nobody noticed him! :-)
Look, Josh is a fantastic singer but this is far from his best, he's rather flat in places.
Ok
Unfortunately, he's not the best at staying in tune
LMAO - Josh Groban is not an opera singer and neither is Rhydian.
The pop singers sing a lot of pop and rock music, but here is the proof for Josh's love of opera. Josh loves opera, he sounds like spinto or a dramatic baritone.
