U.S. Heavy Combat Vehicles Arrive In Poland

- U.S. Army heavy combat vehicles assigned to the 4th Infantry Division began arriving by rail in Poland on January 9, 2017 to start back-to-back rotations of armored brigades in Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. The movement included M109A6 Paladin Howitzers and support carriers, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and M1A2 Abrams Tanks. The vehicles and equipment, totaling more than 2,700 pieces, are being shipped to Poland for maintenance checks and combat certification before deploying across Europe for training exercises with partner nations.

Before any American will start to trash Poles he should ask himself a question: why we have Kosciuszko's monument in West Point. Also American flyiers from the Kosciuszko Squadron helped Poles to defeat Russians in Polish-Russian war that took place 1920. Poland sent tens of thousands of Polish soldiers to Afghanistan and Iraq. Many of them didn't come back. At least the war in Central Europe would mostly be about our own interests in the region, not strictly about American interests. I work with a fella who served 3 years in Russian Military, then he came to US, enlisted and did 2 tours in Iraq for the US, he said if there was a conventional war with Russia we would win in about 2 weeks.

Yep, if RF and NATO clashed weapons, that would be total disaster for both. By the way, Abrams has loader (you), T72+ has autoloader (machine). Well, rate of fire is quite better at T72 side. M1 is a battle proven tank no M1 has ever been lost to an enemy engagement with the exception of friendly artillery and intentional sabotage any damage reported taken didn't stop it's combat effectiveness.
Which I'm perplexed at the behavior of the Russian army right now. As a Ranger from the 80s we where lite infantry and never dealt with heavy ordinance. Even if we ran up on anyone's military hardware it wasn't left there. Ether Battlefield recovery or we blow that S up.

The Nazis blitzed through Poland in WW2. We are not letting Putin do the same this time!
I hope that every freedom loving European will be please to see US armoured units arriving in Poland - which of course is exactly where they should be right now. We need to rebuild a substantial and permanent NATO force in Eastern Europe as we once fielded in West Germany during the Cold War era. The obvious Middle East camouflage scheme applied to these vehicles does illustrate however just how badly the west has underestimated the Russian threat.
By the time these machines are sent into action, the point of camouflage will be kind of moot, the danger is in not making a NATO strike decisive enough, if it becomes a protracted attrition mess, Putin will make this really ugly, and then it wouldn't matter if you painted everything screaming neon with signs strobing "Secret Hideout" lighting up your positions, because Putin will be "Lighting up" the Northern Hemisphere with "Ze Tsar Bomba".....
Now these are real tanks with real logistics and support, not like the crappy T-80 paper tanks. These tanks with real professionals handling them, will take care of Russia’s army.

Abrams would get shredded by Javelins just as bad as a T-72. They would eat Russian tanks alive in direct engagements though. The only way to beat the Javelin is some sort of active/passive protection system like the one that was put on the new Armata tank but who knows how well that system actually works.

I served on a M-48 52 ton tank in vietnam, the M1 abrams were not made then but had a smaller SHERIDAN tank with 120mm main. Never had a chance to go up against a T-62. 4th div. 10th armored calvery vietnam.

What you need is an "Automatic Reverse-Park" program for the heavy armoured vehicles. Place a few cameras on the back and sides of the vehicles, punch in the desired separation of the units and press the 'ARP' button. Just like an automobile 'auto-park' feature; each vehicle will smoothly pull into line, equally spaced and perfectly aligned. Mobile Artillery could be automatically moved into firing-positions with one program command. ARPA could whip this up over a weekend, it could save time, fuel and money. Getting on and off rail cars could also benefit from this solution.
You need decent camo far more than neat lines, modern warfare is about fire and move with loitering drones just waiting for either a gun flash or even more scary the aiming system to be turned on.
Long lines of equally space targets have been redundant for a long time except at demos.
