I’ve been keeping track on the US Army’s program to replace the Bradley. To me, I think the CV90 would be the ideal “off the shelf” replacement IFV to the Bradley. Aside from being an IFV, the CV90 platform has various other variants that can be purchased along with the IFV setup. Dual 120mm mortar would be a great capability not currently in the US military inventory.
For people wonder which variant(s) Sweden will send to Ukraine. This haven't been very clearly specified yet. That could depend on that they don't want to specify or that the delivery package isn't completely set yet. The MoD said that it will be vehicles used in international missions. There is also the option to send some of the other variants in the pakage, like the 9040LVKV(anti-air) and probably they will send a number of the recovery variant. Rheinmettal tried to make a deal that gave what looked like a huge domestic production share but it looks like the Slovak government is going to bite (the deal was actually not as good as it looked when really broken down). The D series turret is being offered with interest in updating to 50mm from the the Slovaks. Lynx advocates argued that cv90 is old and with limited upgrade potential. Cv90 advocates were liable to opine that the lynx is an updated Marder so not as new as it thinks. I'll leave you guys to be the judge.
Thanks. I did wonder about ammo availability for the 35mm as it's not a calibre I've seen too often, but they are used in quite a few European countries so that should be a non issue. It is for close range fire missions (2-8 km) were it is immediately deployable to give support to company - battalion units in their combat missions. They are immediately behind front line units.
I must ponder how the 'infrared signature' is compromised by the spent casings being ejected into the air in front of the vehicle. It would display as a fountain with a highly definable source.
@@michaelchi3628 yeah, in the end of the day, better to see your enemy before they see you, afterwards the sound alone will be enough to start counterfire
Nope. You dont notice it. It's weird but the casings and the scope does not align from the distance that they are thrown. Maybe if you reverse but we never practiced reversing in night.
So 70 km/h or 44 Mph is slow? The Marder does about 75 km/h 46 mph and the Bradley 56 Km/ h or 35 mph. BMP-1 and BMP-2 65 Km/h or 40 mph, BMP-3 72 Km/h 45 mph. I think the CV-90 is above average when talking about speed and also armament and tech.
Sweden really has some amazing toys from submarines to tanks to planes, but the size of their army (20k active, 30k reserved) is really a joke. Of course this kind of downsize is allowed by Finland being between them and russia, but I really hope they start to grow their army size in the future given the current goepolitical situation.
We will! Our defence budget has been highly increased since the invasion of Ukraine. Before the invasion we had plans to triple our army when it comes to manpower. Now after the invasion it will be even more than that I guess. One advantage that we have is that we already have a very strong weapons industry. So we have all the high tech weapons and the ability to produce a lot of them if we wish. Now we only need to scale it up with manpower and weapons production.
And don't forget all with millitary education but was removed from millitary when Sweden scaled down their millitary. I have 10 month millitary education, used a early version of the same rifle that's Still in use and the AT-4. The rest of the weapon and equipment are not in use any longer but I could Still fight as a soldier together with many many more not counted if needed. Sweden educate around 6000 new soldiers every year and it's increasing.
All Swedish defends Industry was sold out, so it will take years to build it up again. All of Sweden money goes to Economic Migrant and given away to foreign countries...

I think sweden is just a sleeping giant when it comes to war.
Sweden has always been able to produce smart and practical weapons sinch forever. Their history is full of it, from leather canons to sail ship guns. A dane would know his history on the matter, we fought them for 600 years.
I really wish we (the Swedish government) would send 200 of the Cv 90 to the Ukraines. Would make a big difference in the war against the orchs from the east.
Send 200 CV90 to whom? Who is going to operate these vehicles? It’s not like sending a regular car to people who have experience with a regular vehicle. Then take that to go grocery shopping. It takes months and months of training the crew . Then you need to train the crew to train with other crews of that same vehicle type to become proficient in combat. So even more months will pass before the crews will be ready. Sending these vehicle to become scrap metal is just dumb.
@@korbendallas1307 2-3 months will do for education. Swedish government have now decided to send 50. CV 90. They will give the ruzzkies a real bad surprise, mind my word.
It depends on the turret. It is as simple that long rounds demand more space. But there are 120 mm prototypes CV90120, basically light tanks without infantry compartment, once again due to ammo taking space. It has not been airdropped but a Globemaster C-17 can take 3 of them in a lift.

CV90 MK4 is pretty much a new design where they kept all the good stuff.
Sweden is also looking at buying MK4 versions in the near future!
The Lynx is a watered down PUMA. It has nothing to do with the Marder platform.
Just a small correction. Norway uses the Mk3b version.
Slovakia put an order for 152 CV90 a few days ago. And czech republic wants to buy 250 but havn't placed order yet.
Yep, and now the deals are finished. They bought them from us.. Now Italy wants to buy 100 from us.. ;)
The CV90 is a beast.
Ty for ur videos. They are rly informative and entertaining :)
8:35 That Polish light tank version looks like a futuristic Judge Dredd on the field.
It's versatility makes me think of the chimaera vehicle from warhammer 40.000.
I love your videos!!!
Excellent video 👍🏻
This would be my go-to vechicle in the alternative universe as a Rambo.
it would be interesting to see a CV90 variant that could use the boxer interchangeable mission modules
Thanks. I did wonder about ammo availability for the 35mm as it's not a calibre I've seen too often, but they are used in quite a few European countries so that should be a non issue. I bet you can do better work with that than a 20mm. Take out larger threats with quick direct fire and all that. Thanks for the lowdown
Found out recently that the co-ax MG was the 1919A5/6 in 8mm Swedish, in 2010 the switched to the MAG58 in 7.62N.
Can you do a video about new Polish IFV BORSUK? Much appreciated.
Our next Weapon Detective land system video will be about the Patria AMV and its derivatives.
Cv 90 even today the best in class
The Stridsvagn 122 (Strv 122) is a Swedish main battle tank based on the German Leopard 2 improved variant, just like the German Leopard 2A5, utilizing newer technology such as command-, control-, and fire-control systems, as well as reinforced armour and long-term combat capacity. (Wikipedia)

It also didn't pass stage 1 of the Land 400 Phase 3 M113AS4 replacement tender which is now in tender evaluation mode with Hanwha AS21 REDBACK and Rheinmetall Lynx KF41.
BAE systems with the CV90 withdrew from Land 400. It's not that they didn't pass, they didn't compete...
@@martinbruce8221 They did compete with Ajax also involved with the other 2 vehicles. But both Ajax and CV90 did not go through to the second testing phase. Have a look at Defence Connect and Land 400 Phase 3 page.
@@davemiter1034 The real strength of CV90 is the mobility in Northern European terrain. Perhaps when that not being a factor there might be better options out there, especially for the price. I think the AS21 would fit Australia well.
all good.. but it is called KSP58 not "kps58"
Good video about a great vehicle - but I wonder, what is the point of such an expensive mortar variant? Isn't it just duplicating the capability of accompanying self-propelled howitzers?
It is for close range fire missions (2-8 km) were it is immediately deployable to give support to company - battalion units in their combat missions. They are immediately behind front line units.
I must ponder how the 'infrared signature' is compromised by the spent casings being ejected into the air in front of the vehicle. It would display as a fountain with a highly definable source.
I mean to eject casings the gun would be firing which is a pretty big giveaway to begin with 🤷
@@michaelchi3628 yeah, in the end of the day, better to see your enemy before they see you, afterwards the sound alone will be enough to start counterfire
Nope. You dont notice it. It's weird but the casings and the scope does not align from the distance that they are thrown. Maybe if you reverse but we never practiced reversing in night.
If it fire at you, it doesn't matter then anymore ! You are likely dead then !
I wonder what versions will be seen in Ukraine... Nice steel!
Most likely CV9040 according to some sources.
Very nice. A little slow, though. The crews must love those rubber tracks.
So 70 km/h or 44 Mph is slow? The Marder does about 75 km/h 46 mph and the Bradley 56 Km/ h or 35 mph. BMP-1 and BMP-2 65 Km/h or 40 mph, BMP-3 72 Km/h 45 mph.
I think the CV-90 is above average when talking about speed and also armament and tech.
i really want that other dude as a commentator back who covered for this guy. sounds sooo much better!

I still think it's ironic. Sweden. One of the countries that has never fought since the early 1600's in a country on country senario is now making some of the finest and best weapon systems, weapons and artillery, Infantry naval transports and apparently tanks? yet we've never truely been in a war for decades, Yet seem to have mastered the ability to create weapons more lethal then most countries. I think sweden is just a sleeping giant when it comes to war.
Last time we fought in a war was 1814 (not the early 1600's).
1600s huh
Sweden has always been able to produce smart and practical weapons sinch forever. Their history is full of it, from leather canons to sail ship guns. A dane would know his history on the matter, we fought them for 600 years.
Someone skipped the history lessons in school, did'nt we?
Send some of these to Ukraine

Why has the United Kingdom not got this System CV90 Proven !!!!!
I'd like to see this with a 50mm cannon! Also, does anyone know if this vehicle has amphibious mobility? Is it air droppable?
The 40mm cannon uses extra long ammunition so is pretty close in performance to a 50mm gun.
With preparation it is amphibious, but similarly to the Bradley M2/M3, it weighs over 20 tons and cannot, as far as I know, be air dropped.
Yes, you can always drop it !!! Bud if it works after that is the big question ?!!! 😂😂
It depends on the turret. It is as simple that long rounds demand more space. But there are 120 mm prototypes CV90120, basically light tanks without infantry compartment, once again due to ammo taking space. It has not been airdropped but a Globemaster C-17 can take 3 of them in a lift.
Hey UK Ministry of Defence, look what you could have won

I really like the CV90, very good IFV, but if i had to sit in an IFV, i would no doubtely choose the PUMA.
PUMA is as MBT whit a 30mm cannon and infantry. But all MBT/IFV die against modern AT weapon.
Its is also rumoured to be very small with a max size limit for crew personal, unlike the CV-90.
@@TB-zf7we The CV90 versions fitted with mine protection seats have height restriction for crew and dismounts aswell. Mine protection seats require space above the soldiers head to work properly. Now, how strictly these rules are enforced is up to the respective Armed Forces.
@@len2063 Depends on if the vehicle has an APS (active protection system) or not. Hägglunds now offer upgrades with Israeli Iron Fist APS.
