    I've got a litte S2A time and was talking to a buddy who once delivered a Christen Eagle to a new owner and involved a transcon flight. He owned the S2A and, just as you, was prejudiced. As I'm not interested in competition, I'd be happy to have the better visibility and build quality. Great vid!

    Fun video again. I have flown a pitts 2B, cap 10B and now I’m flying a acrosport 2. At first the acrosport was disappointing, have a very slow roll rate. But having more hours on it, it flies really nice. Much more effort to take on the roll figures. A pitts or cap is easier on that.

    OK, if we are talking JUST about comparing an Eagle II to the S-2A model, then the most important question is really boiled down to whether you want an experimental or certified aircraft. I'm a huge fan of both airplanes, and have flown them both multiple times, but my .02 cents is that the Eagle has a roomier cockpit, but the Pitts is better balanced on the controls. The Pitts feels a tad more predictable and solid (but keep in mind the experimental factor of the Eagle: different builders = different airplanes!). The B model and the C model are a different comparison, and yeah, you can't beat a 540 up front in the comparison 😀. Fun video, but it didn't answer anything about the question in the title, hahahahaha. There's lots more we could talk about here, such as bungee gear vs spring gear, lower wing dihedral or none, spades vs no spades, etc etc.....

    • @alexandercoats
      @alexandercoats  2 года назад +1

      I agree there needs to be a true comparison video.

      I've heard similar comparisons between the Eagle and S-2A. The Pitts, they say, feels "dense". I remember an airshow performer saying that he would monkey with the trim on the Pitts during an airshow performance vs than with the Eagle. I have a little bit of time in the S-2A and really loved it.

    First, you must compare the Eagle with an S2A or S2E (not S1 series). Frank Christensen was disappointed with Curtis Pitts since Curtis did not want to improve the S2A as it was selling well. So, Frank designed his own. The Eagle is fast with spring gear and great visibility. Both have the lousy, slow rolling, flat-bottomed, frise type ailerons. Both are awesome machines. The best biplane is the single-place Wolf Pitts or Samson Pitts if you prefer a radial engine. Now give us your thoughts on the Pitts S2C.

    • @alexandercoats
      @alexandercoats  2 года назад +3

      The S-2C is a far superior airplane. I feel like it’s in a different category.

      regarding your aileron comment, not entirely true.....S-2A ser#2219, and #2231 thru #2270 have symmetrical ailerons

    • @mustangsandwich

      I think the most impressive biplane performance I might have ever seen was Steve Wolf flying one of his early S-1 Wolf models. Afterward I spoke with him about it. He did stuff with that 4-cylider model that shocked me. The vertical performance and apparent energy conservation (aerodynamics) was incredible. I always wanted to own one ever since. That airplane was outrunning the Extra 300 on flat/level runs. Incredible machine.
