Sure is lovely to have such a great number of historic canal ways all around...offer such wonderful areas to enjoy and explore.

      Thank you Bruce & Otis!
Glad you enjoyed it - I am fortunate to have a number of historic, both open and disused not far from where I live in Gloucestershire.
I find that they are both fascinating places and lovely places to walk alongside too.
      Take care,
      Paul

Wonderful update Paul. Even though I'm from across the pond as we say, it is exciting to see the restoration work being done. These canals are engineering and historic marvels. Worth the money and effort to save them. Thank you.👍

      Thank you Daryl!
      Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, these canals are definitely worth saving - as well as the historical importance, they are brilliant for leisure, nature and our mental health.
I will keep doing these updates as I know that there are many people who are interested in this canal, but live some distance from it and are unable to see it in person.
Always great to hear from you.
      Take care,
      Paul

      Thank you Ron 👍
      Glad you enjoyed it.
As you can imagine although just less than 30 minutes long this was a fair bit of work to make.
However I will continue to report on progress here for as long as I am to do so.
Hope you have a great weekend.
      Take care,
      Paul

Some encouraging progress and some challenges ahead to get that 'missing mile' on the map. Thank's for an informative update.

Thank you Malcolm - yes, a few challenges to overcome, but seeing how much progress has been made in the past few years, as I remember the dereliction of these canals in the 1960s, obstacles can be overcome.
I will endeavour to continue to report on progress here.
      Take care,
      Paul

Another comprehensive look at the Stroudwater & Thames& Severn Canal.
I had a peak at Update15a and you could see the progress that had been made! It does seem a huge undertaking. And I had no idea about the silt problem, & now the lack of funding too. So many problems to overcome! Thanks Paul.

      Thank you Diana!
Yes, a big transformation from my last video here - in hindsight I should have included photos from the previous videos to show the comparison.
I do hope the obstacles can be overcome - but I do think that they will, considering the huge amount that has been achieved since they started in the 1970s.
Thanks again & hope you have a good week.
      Take care,
      Paul

      Thank you!
I don't know anything about Yorkshire or Derbyshire (it is a long way from here!) but I do cover other canals in the South West and southern parts of the West Midlands.
      Cheers!
      Paul.

Enjoyed the video. You should contact the Peaky Dippers to come over with their magnet fishing. Should be some interesting stuff in the canal.

Hi Paul, great update, looks like there is a lot going on. I wish them the best of luck with trying to reduce costs, lets hope the lottery is able to close the gap as much as possible.
Normally on the canal and river videos you manage to get a Swan in there, was it his (or hers) day off this time?
    Have a great weekend!!

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you David! 🙂
Yes, cost rises are a huge issue but I am confident that these obstacles can be overcome. I remember what the canal looked like in the 1960s and how much has been achieved since then.
I didn't go to the swan 🦢 hot spots this time but will try and include some in the next update!
Hope you have a great weekend too David. Hope all is good with your mum too.
      Take care,
      Paul
