I love the European Rifles,, but here in the U.S.A. we never get to see them for sale anywhere,, I've been wanting a Zastova Mini-Mouser in .223 bolt action with iron sights, but trying to find one in the U.S. is harder than finding the Holy Grail,,i'd love to find a rook rifle as well,, but i won't ever get that lucky here in the states,, those European rifles are very elegant indeed...thanx 4 this video, i enjoyed watching it.

As always, such interesting and thorough content. Thank you.
I have a Brno O/U double rifle in 9.3x74R and a Brno 12 ga. sidelock O/U shotgun. Both are incredible quality and finish. I also own an Opava "Ferdinand" 16 ga. sidelock SxS shotgun that is every bit the quality of a top British or Italian gun. I bought all three while working overseas in Ukraine on visits to Czech Republic. All are marked "Made in Czechoslovakia" which dates them to pre-1989. The Opava is pre-WW2
Firearms makers in Czechoslovakia were usually named for the city they were located in. Praha (Prague), Brno and Opava for example.
I bought these guns for a fraction of what British or Italian guns of equal quality cost. The dealers handled the import process for me. They were sent to an FFL importer in the US and forwarded to my local FFL. I do a lot of business with my local dealer and he was kind enough to store them for me until I returned home. Even at that, the guns were a bargain compared to anything I would have paid in the USA.
FWIW, Czech Republic, now officially called Czechia, is very gun-friendly. They issue concealed carry permits to most anyone that has no criminal record. Hunting and shooting are popular past times.
Their firearms...and any other mechanical device for that matter, are top quality. The people are very proud to make top quality products.
I travelled extensively while working in Europe. Prague is my favorite city in Europe (get there soon, sleep when you get home) and Netherlands is a great place also. The people in cities in both countries speak English extensively, are very friendly to visitors.
The Czechs have their own equivalent of John Browning: The Holek Brothers. They designed many of the famous Czech guns, including the ZB vz. 26...adopted by the British as the BREN.
I understand, maybe not correctly, that a lot of the arms industry in Czechoslovakia was under the umbrella of the Skoda Company at one time. Now best known for cars, Skoda has been compared to GE in the United States, kind of a do-all corporation.

Hi Gary - Thanks for the note - great info. Well, maybe I should move to Czechia - they've got the right approach and laws to support. I receive a quite a lot of mail from Czechia - so open to guns. I was in Prague - fantastic city and country. Maybe I'll hunt there one day. I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2022.

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Thanks for your reply. The great opportunity I had to work in foreign countries made me appreciate living here all the more. Czechia/Czech Republic is a very nice place to visit. But, I'll keep living here.
If you go again, check out some of the larger gun shops in the cities, most of them will be glad to handle the import of any firearm you purchase. There are so many interesting and high quality firearms available for very reasonable prices.

CZ still makes a Mauser claw action and in a kurtz action no less...it is the CZ 527.
She’s handy little carbine chambered in 7.62x39 and .223.
The CZ 527 was designed to digest steel cased surplus 7.62x39 ammo, so it is really cheap to shoot...and yes, it has a lovely set trigger.
    You’d love it!

I too love my CZ 527 carbine, but as mentioned it has been discontinued. They're replacing it with the larger, heavier, push-feed 600, which I think is a mistake.

    • @margillard7272
      @margillard7272 2 года назад

The CZ 527 is being replaced with something better! Introducing the new CZ600...The new CZ 600 comes in mini, medium and long action configurations. It has a combination of controlled round feeding and push feeding ― it can be loaded by hand through top of the action, or via the magazine. Like many Euro actions, it's designed with interchangeable barrels in mind. Three set screws lock the barrel into the action, and barrels can be interchanged between a cartridge family (.308/.243, .223/.300 Blackout, for example). However, at this point, there's only a limited availability of chamberings.

Zkk 600 is not technically a true Mauser action but very close. I have a 600 with the same stock as the one you showed. I had it customized to slim the stock, add a barrel mounted sling swivel, red recoil pad and buffalo horn forend tip. It is a 7x57. Mine has the rear peep sight which is milled into the rear receiver.

My CZ-452 is marked on the barrel with SUPER BRNO SAA 2500 and is date stamped 2001. It was originally destined to the best of my knowledge for the Egyptian military to be used as a training rifle. When that deal fell apart it along with 2,499 others of the same design were sold to the general public.
All I can say is thank you to whoever cancelled that deal because I ended up with one honey of a bolt action .22. It has a smooth action, a trigger that breaks like a glass rod, hand checkering, and to help soak up the exceptionally harsh recoil that .22 LR is known for not having it has a ventilated recoil pad. All in all it is a very fun bolt action .22 to shoot, and a testament to the gun manufacturing culture of the Czech Republic.
Anyway, Merry Christmas and thank you for all the effort that you and those behind the scenes put in to make this great gun channel possible.

I cut my teeth hunting smaller plains game in South Africa with a Brno ZKK 601 in .243 Win from age 13. When it was time for me to buy my own rifle, I nearly settled for a HOWA (not that they are bad rifles at all!), but luckily a ZKK 600 in .30-06 came over my path. I hunt everything up to Eland size with it, and it has never failed me - I'm the only one that fails every now and then. Super consistent, super reliable.

An excellent video (and tribute as well) to CZ/Brno rifles, shotguns and combo rifles. As you stated their are just so many models (sadly now most discontinued). The over and under 9.3's and 375's are beautifully made and deserve a video of their own. Along with the combo rifle/shotgun series as well. In Australia the Brno Mod-2 pre 67 was the rabbit shooter's choice of rim fire throughout the 70's and 80's along with the Model 1. I own a Brno-Model 2 post 67 which I've had now for over 30 years. The Brno semi auto 22 rim fire was also popular. Today we have the CZ-452/3, 455 and now the 457 (which is a more quality made rim fire than the 455 made in several models). My first 375 H+H was a Brno 602 which came in a true magnum length action along with the 458 Win Mag (with the hogsbach comb) I've owned three CZ-550's in 458 Win Mag (including a 458 Lott). The American has the straight comb an the Lux model has the hogsbach comb more suited to open sights. Once the CZ went to the push feed models such as the 555 I lost all interest. I could go on but they are all made like Russian tractors and in part that in itself is their popularity and attraction. In every hunting camp in Africa you would be sure to find a Brno or CZ of one kind or another. As always thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your presentation of Brno line. I've been waiting for you to do an exclusive video of these fine firearms that get little recognition in the states. I was fortunate enough to acquire a Bruno Fox model 2 in 222 Remington and a model 4 from the same seller at a gun show about 15 years ago. I bought two other classic hard to find 22lr rifles from him too that same day before I ran out of money. The seller was an avid 22 collector and knew the subject well.
The Bruno model 4 is incredibly accurate. I rank it right up there with my Winchester model 52 and Anschutz 1710.

Recently bought a CZ557 in .308. Also has the unique Euro buttstock, which I’ve always thought of as being German in origin, Bavarian actually, although the Czech version has different cut lines in the cheekpiece. Mounted a scope with CZ specific vertical split Warne rings, rock solid. Walnut and steel, a little heavier than many but really like the way the whole thing handles. Keeping a lookout for a BRNO .22 next.

Another greatly interesting expose - thank you - despite being Aussie I was very interested the the Canadian Rangers & their replacement for their ageing Enfield 303's - I have acquired the winner of the tender the Tikka Arctic 308 as well as what i believe came a close second & rare here in Australia being the CZ 557 Ranger 308 - it is the most beautiful CZ I own & is every bit as functional & accurate as the Tikka Arctic. It has the most magnificent 2 stage trigger & the iron sights are excellent. CZ / Brno definitely went in all guns blazing (pardon the pun) to try to be the preferred supplier. I should also mention that in my travels to Poland in 2017 I ventured into the Czech Republic & was able to have a fantastic tour of the CZ factory - I highly recommend anyone travelling in that part of the world book a tour. Anyways thanks again for taking the time to produce your excellent content. All the best & Merry Christmas.

I wish I had taken just a moment to schedule a visit into my itinerary driving into Slovakia. (BRNO on top of me; the manufacturer of the 98K action on a 26 year old 1,000 yard match rifle; which recently held at or under 3/4 m.o.a. at 850 yards) Even a short tour would fit with much time remaining for Budepest. Bratislava was tantalizingly close as we stuck to the itinerary and passed by on to the second visit to Budepest. Nearly everything about Europe seems to exceed what we have here in the U.S.

Thank you for another great video. My ZG 47 in .30-06 is the best centrefire sporter I have ever owned. My ZKM 611 is also a great rifle. My Brno Model 4, although messed around with by a prior owner, is my favourite shooting rifle. I bought a brand new Brno Model 2 in the late 80s but it had a very tight action and I had to sell it due to a carpal tunnel issue at that time. It was bought by Lance Barnard, ex-culler famous for outdoor/wildlife photos and he is still very happy with it. I also have a Brno Volkspolizei rifle built in 1950 which is basically a late war Kar98K with the Brno stamped bottom metal which is very good. That rifle is also very accurate.
I also had a CZ 527 sporter, chambered to .223 Remington, having been dissuaded from buying the 7.62x39 version. The single-set trigger was far too light when set (dangerous in a cold wind) and far too heavy when unset, for a very light hunting rifle, given the narrowness of the trigger blade. I have a ZKM 452 FS in .22lr, have previously owned a JW15 and have recently acquired a brand new Norinco KKW replica.
You made a minor faux pas. The full-stock version of the Brno small ring sporter is the Model 22. The Model 21 has a half-stock.

The half stock uses a butter-knife bolt, mounting a scope is a challenge due to the high clearance required. A fixed rear bell barely makes it, I currently use an old Redfield "TV" scope for additional room. My full stock has a 34mm Kahles with Rusan base. Rusan bases come in quite a number of varieties from 1" to 34mm, turn out to picatinney to adjustable base. Good pricing and solid quality.

If you love rifles, you have to love Brnos. The early ones are extremely well made and clearly designed and built by craftsman even if they were factory rifles. Owning the early Z rifles, a ZG and a ZKK, I couldn't help but fall in love with the way they handle, the way they're designed, and the evident time the builders took to build perfection into the final products. Although CZs are nice, I feel that the early Brnos put the 550s to shame. If you dont understand that comment, you have to handle one and then you'll understand. Pretty challenging to find if youre in the US though.

CZUB have just put out a new series of multi-lug Centrefire bolt-action rifles, the 600 series. A long action, a short action; and a super-short action with fewer lugs, which is chambered for .223 Remington, 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39 (if I recall correctly). They all have mechanical ejection, polymer magazines and Picatinny optic bases. Stock appears to be limited, probably as a result of Covid-19 affecting worldwide logistic chains.

Hello. I have a hand full of Mauser's/ CZ s but I like to tell you about 3 ea square bridge of them.
The oldest a BRNO 602, 6 shot in mag in 375 H&H converted to 416 Rigby ,the gunsmith said he wont rebore a BRNO again the steel in to hard on the cutters.
the job was well done and the rifle stays within 1 1/2" @ 100 y if I do my best.
Like you say the finish is kinde dull and the action seems Parkarized.
A CZ 602 ZZK also a375H&H also converted but this time to a 500A Square it carry's a heavy SS barrel , mag. cap. 3 rnds, break on barrel, 600gr bullets 1.25" @100y.
Last : These rifles where converted when I was a lot younger and tougher, then I realized I didn't have a square bridge Mauser that hold 6 ea 375 H#H anymore.
I then hid the jackpot (,one can not go true life without the greatest cartridge of all the 375 )
But this is the ultimate CZ 550 LH Safari in 375, finish close to a mark 5 , 6 in the mag. like all above rifles, express sights and set triggers, very nice wood and like all 375 shooting just fine.
This rifle is no longer made
As a side note for most of my rifles above.25 cal I shoot a lot of cast bullets in all.
Thank you for letting rand and rave on.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year
