My CZ's are the jewels of my collection for certain. The observation that gives me concern regarding the CZ600 is the apparent short sight radius of the iron sights. I presume that CZ did that so that a scope could be mounted nice and low along the barrel without interfering with the rear sight, but there are those of us that actually like shooting with iron sights, and a scope isn't always a requirement.
Only day's ago, I was in the Tigar Oregon Cabala's store then had a chance to pick up a CZ 600 in 223 - 270 win - 30-06. I didn't see any problem at all with the sites on the gun and I thought the sites to be pretty slick for more accurate site picture. I own a CZ 550 from new in 9.3x62 Mauser and many more guns I own but if I was to buy a new Rife it would be a CZ 600 in 8mmx57 Mauser.
Recall just preventing not skilled owners to switch different caliber barells. If you accep it in bought caliber then it's still really good modern and high quality accurate gun for price.
New England Custom Gun, in New Hampshire, produces beautifully made rear sights for CZs that fit on the rear scope mounting spot. All you need to do is remove the stock rear sight blade and place the rear patridge sight on the mount and tighten the screw. They are reasonably priced too. I have them on all three of my CZs. I believe NECG sells optional apertures if you want. The aperture rear sight gives the gun a more military look which I love!

Thanks for the note. I guess gun fashion ebbs and flows; as do all things in life. For now people like the military, polymer, pistol grip etc...guns- and that's fine. I like them too - as machines they work well and with one war after another for decades, there are many young people that have only seen military style rifles and shotguns; although shotguns still look like shotguns of old but with polymer or camo stocks - with some exceptions. I find there is more to think about - more "meaning" in guns from the past. Actually, I find more meaning in simpler, less efficient - even flawed things of any kind. I like muzzleloaders too. Thank you Whirlybird - I checked on the CZ web site - they ask for the serial number - mine has no issues - seems to be perfect. I appreciate your concern. My best to you.
It was supposed to be a switch barrel system but the user could do it wrong so they recalled it and stopped marketing as such. Not the first rifle in recent years with the same issue. Too bad they rush stuff out
CZ used to manufacture controlled feed mauser 98 style bolt action rifles with no plastic parts. Some of them chambered in big bore cartridges such as the .416 rigby at a price level not found currently. Sadly they don't produce them anymore.
Me to but they won't. Be lucky to be in business much longer. There stopping production in several makes they are known for . There on the way out if I had to guess. Either way the 600 lux is a beautiful rifle. I'd buy one if I ever got a shot at it in the right caliber
I bought a 527 rifle in 7.62x39 a couple of years ago and I'm glad I did because they recently discontinued that model. I didn't even know it had the set trigger until i was cleaning it one day! Stunning rifles, and such a variety of calibers
I have only good things to say about CZ rifles I bought my first about 15 yrs ago a bolt action in 7,62*39 since then I've bought several more, They look great accurate enough for hunting price is decent I think the most I've paid was $650 but that was a 270 with a Leopold 4-12*50 scope it shoots 1&1/2" groups at 200 yards with hand loads but even with factory ammo you can get 2" groups at 200 yards, and for a old deer rifle like a sore Peter can't beat it
I have a few CZ's. My favorite is a CZ550 FS in 6.5X55 that I actually bought at Reliable Gun so it was a nice surprise to hear you mention that store. Especially in regards to CZ products. I also have a 527 in 7.62X39 that's a real beaut. I'm also a big fan of their rimfires. 452, 455 and 457's. I really wish they had not discontinued production of their 550's though. Those actions are fantastic but I guess they got too costly to produce. I'm not impressed with the 600's. I like what they've done with the 457 actions. But I think the stippling they do now on the stocks is unattractive and feels terrible. I hope they start producing 550's with the controlled round feed again. I don't think I'll ever be interested in buying a 600. Thank you for another great video. How about a video about the 9.3X62 cartridge?
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Bingo! I hate scopes. Proper cheek/stock weld is done with iron/metallic sights. Scopes throw off the balance and handling of the rifle. Cheap accountants (the bean counters) at firearms companies decided to quit mounting front and rear sights and then market the firearm with the ugly plastic (baked trash bag) stocks. ugh!
Beautiful rifles. A have a few CZ rifles (455, 527, 557), had a few issues with the 527 but otherwise fine. I have mixed feelings about the 600. It was meant to be a swap-barrel but CZ realised that the rifle could still shoot with the barrel incorrectly inserted so in the end they made a recall and now the CZ600 are fixed barrel. Pity - it was a lost opportunity. Thank you for your time and showing us all these nice rifles, Sir!
Love those cz's! Don't own one yet, but maybe someday it'll fit in the budget... Mike, you better get on the stick here if we're going to get videos on all of the rifles in your safe before one of us dies of old age... 😉
Great video, Mike! I like all three, but I love the 555. Maybe because it's a 30-06..... All three are very well made and smooth. I Love the walnut on the 601! Glad to see you out and about, and putting those rifles thru their paces!
Thanks for the opportunity to "Czech" out those fine rifles. I looked at one of those 600's and was a bit disappointed myself. I'm sure it shoots well and all but I thought the quality was off with the stock wood and the finishing of the metal. I guess that is part of the modernization effort of converting a classic rifle to a contemporary one. If that rifle had the same feel as the Zephyr .22 Lux, I would have bought it but I was just pot off by the matte metal and figureless wood. Price-wise, it's a lot of rifle but just wasn't my cup of České pivo.
Thanks for bringing us another great video Mike. That 600 is a nice rifle, and seems to shoot very well even with the short sight radius. I would prefer a little more finish on the stock, the pure satin doesn't appeal to me on any gun. My favorite is the BRNO looks wise. It seems old school like me and apparently is a fine shooter also. Enjoy!
Always miss your videos when you have been busy .far and away I agree with you .I like the Mauser best.for many old school and practical reasons. The biggest being the 601 had the longest sight radius by far.that 600 s rearsight was so far forward I doubt you could shoot it passed 150yds and the 8x57 is capable of much more than that.that rifle was very beautiful just set up for a huge scope which is not right for the old Mauser either Great work again and I'm sorry to be so fussy.but I love opensighted practical rifles
Had a 557 with that same stock and comb. The bolt has very little clearance over top which tells you right away it’s designed for a scope. The cheek weld is higher and so the eye is positioned higher above the barrel to better line up with the exit pupil from the scope. Very nice rifles. I may spring for a CZ 600 but I have a Tikka LSA-55 that I’m refurbishing first. I’m a serial rifle owner, rather than a parallel gun owner 😂 But jealous nonetheless🙈
One of my major mistakes in life was when I waited too long to pick up a second hand CZ 527 in 222 and with Stutzen stock…for 400€. Next biggest mistake - at the same shop!!! - was that I waited 1 day to pick up HOWA 1500 laminated in 308 for 600€. 3rd biggest mishap is when I was offered a Parker Hale in 308 for 250€ and replied “I call you back”. So stupid… My gun safes are screaming in the back: “come on in!”
Just seen a bunch of the CZ 600 at the Tigard Oregon Cabela's store in 223 - 270 win / 30-06. I thought the guns are magnificent in build and amazing fit when shouldering one. If I was still into bolt guns, I would want one on 9.3x62 Mauser and the 8 mm x 57 Mauser. I own for many years a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser I used in Alaska to the Pacific NW which I can say by experience the 9.3x62 Mauser is brown bear and Yukon moose killer !
Thanks Lure, Some places are sold out; hopefully people will see your post to get one. I agree about the 9.3 in a 600...about perfect for any big game purpose. I can't find one though. All the best
Hey it's me again Mike. Another fine video about well made rifles. The plainer 601 would be my choice. Push feed actions just aren't my first choice even though I've had a couple of them just to get the caliber/cartridge I wanted. Remington 721 BDL DELUXE 300 H&H. Still have it. Remington 700 ADL Varmint 22-250. Only shot it 3 times. Stayed in the safe several years then over night it magically changed itself into a Savage 99F 308 Winchester. As far as other CZ's I covet a 550 in 9.3x62. Also a 457 or 457 Lux. I really like the ones you can have two barrels for. Preferably 22 WMR and 17HMR. I already have a Ruger 77/22LR but would gladly take the 457 22LR. Happy hunting boys and girls!😄
Hi Dave - Great post. Your "Safe Magic" needs to be commercialized - fantastic! CZ/BRNO makes and have made so many brilliant firearms - always good to have one or two or a few. I've actually never had a bad one. The 600 is impressive and a significant "buy" IMHO - there was a recall - but I've purchased many fine guns that were recalled. Anyway - my 8x57 was not part of the recall. Keep writing and all the best!
Thank you very much for the review i have only just watched it, a bit late but i did enjoy it . I have a CZ 601 in .308 and have used it as my main hunting rifle for over 25 years, shoots straight and is very reliable. I have several other brands of rifle in different calibers but when i recently needed a new small caliber rifle i purchased a CZ 452 in .22 which i use shooting rabbits here in Australia and i find it great to use always accurate just like the 601. Thanks again for the review.
Asking which one you like best is like asking which one of your kids you like best. You love them all for the same and at the same time different reasons.
The recall was done before the 600 made it across the pound, the reason for the recap have something to do with the switch barrel system! Now they are not switch barrels anymore!
you forgot the 602's. the BRNO ZKK came as 601 short actions, 600 long actions and 602 magnum length actions. They use the same quick detach rings as the CZ550. The one your holding has a set trigger and they originally came with a set trigger and a conventional trigger as well as a little tool kit to change it. The trigger is user adjustable via a screw in the bolt race way above the trigger. Some models had a beautiful little pop up peep sight in the top of the receiver which was deployed by pushing a button on the side of the action, very slick! Yours is the european monte carlo stocked version and there was a straight comb english stocked version. The white line spacer on the forened tip is just cut in and the tip dyed, these can cause accuracy issues over time I believe. They are also pillar bedded. The only complaint is the arse about safety. I have a ZKK 601 and I had a model 70 style safety fitted solving that problem. A truly beautiful rifle it is, far preferable to any of the modern stuff in my eyes!
In regard to the correct name for the ‘Czech Republic’ there is a Czech lady who comes to our whiskey tastings and she says that the Czechs call their country Czechy (Checky). She asserts that the word ‘Czechia’ is a foreign invention. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿!
I bought three CZs in a row, I love them. I put a peep rear sight from new england custom guns, it came with three sizes and on for night. incredible open sight shooting. i have one that was made to shoot 7.62x39 steel with a short mauser action that works like butter. floated barrel, walnut , set trigger , from brush gun to safari gun, awsome!
I got a CZ 457 in LH last year and have been thinking of getting a center fire CZ too. Do you know if they make the 600 in left hand? Well done as always.
All beautiful rifles. Love the European stocks, especially walnut. The first rifle is my favorite. More Euro reviews please. Do Latvia and Poland make rifles? Prosit! from Chris in the freezing prairies of Kanada. Prima vid. Thank you
Hi Chris - I shot the 600 at paper and it seems to be incredibly accurate - even with no scope. I'm not aware of any Latvian rifles but Poland has made some .22s and others - hard to find though. Prosit from the mountains! Thank you for being here.
@USOG Roger, thank you for the info. I bet they are all very accurate. Am I correct that you reviewed some H&K rifles some time ago? I will look at your previous vids and look for the Polish 22's. I grew up with a Cooey single shot bolt 22 and loved it. Chris
Those CZ 600 in 223 are now on sale at the Tigar Oregon cabala's store for $606 There are 2 in 30-06 and one in 270 win now on the rack with 5 - in 223. Cabala's will transfer guns from store to store .
Nice. Im going to buy a barely used p350 stoeger pump shotgun. Ill need a shotgun for duck season coming soon since Im selling the Ithaca xl 900 12 gauge. Thinking of getting a keltec su16 too.
Ruger 77 were my go to for years. When there prices went up nope cz all the way. The ruger was good up 700$ after that the cz better and for now cheaper.
If CZ had a controlled feed rifle, I would have bought it. Wanted to buy a CZ527, but it was no longer available when I got my gun license. Now can only look for them on used websites.
Beware of the cz527 in 223 rem.they do not feed worth a darn.bad magazines. They feed ok if you only have 2 shells in the magazine .after that who knows..I spent months trying to make mine run smoothly with 4 different magazines .no luck.this is a very common problem. Just go on the net and see how many people have the same problem. Other than that the rifle is very good and accurate
@@dinoquintana4319 Thank you for your valuable information. I once saw a local 7.62x39 CZ527 for $1600 and while I liked it it was too expensive. Congratulations on collecting a CZ527!
Wow that sight radius is short! I have not seen this model but have handled the 600 Alpha in .223. Which although it has a 1:7 twist has a very short OAL capacity in the mag, just enough for 55gr.....
I was looking at a CZ 600 but there is a recall here in the USA over the barrels. So not sure when you are going to be able to get them again here. I have a CZ 527 and it shoots dead straight until about 3 rounds and when the barrel starts to heat up a little the shot group rapidly expands to 4 inches or so.
Another great video! I am considering this as my next rifle .308 or .300. I was told that the cz 600 is a modified control round feed rifle that is only a 60 degree bolt throw. Is this true? The older cz were control round feed with typical 90 degree bolt throw.
Hello - I took out my 600 and checked. The extractor is much like the Sako design and clips over the "rim" of the cartridge offering some control - but not the same as a CRF Mauser or pre-64 Model 70 and similar rifles. The bolt lift is shallow as you note - easily not hitting any scope upon opening. Mine has excellent open sights. Very fine rifle. The older models are nice as well. Still, new is new and the removable mag is convenient. Good health and good shooting.

Thank you for another great video. How about a video about the 9.3X62 cartridge?
Thank for showing all of these rifles. I think if I could afford it, I would get one of each one you show. Keep up the good work.
It is so wonderful to see open sights being used instead of 1500.00 scope. Wonderful
Thank you for saying so. I hope they stop making rifles with no sights. Such rifles are cars with no steering wheel. All the best.
Glad to see you out and about, and putting those rifles thru their paces!
very nice rifles here
Thank you for putting this video together
Keep 'em coming !!!
CZ 601 - the earlier models had a built-in ghost ring in the rear scope base. Genius
I've got a 601 in .308 with the pop-up and you're correct, it's genius. Extremely hard to find intact. Not many were imported to the US
@@GeorgiaJunkman you happy few 👍
I have the CZ 600 with 24" Bull Barrel and in .308. AWESOME RIFLE! CZ makes EXCELLENT Rifles and handguns I also own a CZ P07 for my EDC...AWESOME!
I like the old ones better simply because of the proper bluing and checkering.
Haha, Czech out the humor on this guy!
The biggest being the 601 had the longest sight radius by far.that 600 s rearsight was so far forward I doubt you could shoot it passed 150yds and the 8x57 is capable of much more than that.that rifle was very beautiful just set up for a huge scope which is not right for the old Mauser either
Great work again and I'm sorry to be so fussy.but I love opensighted practical rifles
Hi Dino - Thank you for such kind words and I agree - the way rifles used to be made was right. You don't sound fussy at all : ) All the best to you.
Another enjoyable video Mike.
I Pray that you and Your's are Wintering Well!
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
Thanks Mike - All good with us; health is back and happiness always here. All the best to you and your family and friends. God Bless
I have a CZ 527 in .223 and a 557 in .308 . Both rifles serve me well . I want a CZ 12/.308 and I will be complete
Another great video i love my 452 cz great accuracy take care
great to see you shooting
I love rifles with iron sights. I'm very interested. Both of my CZ 22 have them.
CZs are absolutely amazing rifles. I love mine and am always looking out for another.
Just discovered your channel. I absolutely love your measured, approach. Look forward to future videos and to going back through old videos. Cheers!
Thank you! Your words encourage me!
LOVE the CZ Mausers....have them in 7.62x39, 9.3x62 and .404 Jeffery. Can't warm up to their new "modern" (tacky) designs.
I'd love to find one in 9.3! Very interesting cartridge to me but not really common in the US.
So stupid…
My gun safes are screaming in the back: “come on in!”
A beautiful modern rifle there kind sir. Beautiful scenery all around you as well.
Thank you MC - sometimes the sunbeams break through and the slopes turn to gold -everything stops - breathtaking beauty.
Very nice rifles. Thanks for the video
Asking which one you like best is like asking which one of your kids you like best. You love them all for the same and at the same time different reasons.
This is good Gary - now I have the rationale I've been missing to justify keeping all guns : One simply cannot sell any of the children. God Bless.
Great video! 601 for me!
Another great video! I bought a CZ 600 in .308 when they first came out, still need to shoot it!
Hi Cody - My wife shot another 2 x 3 shot 1/2 inch groups again. This rifle shoots. : ) Hope you get to shoot soon! Cheers
CZ is currently recalling the 600 Lux for some unknown reason.
Thank you John - fortunately mine is not on the recall list. Cheers.
The recall was done before the 600 made it across the pound, the reason for the recap have something to do with the switch barrel system! Now they are not switch barrels anymore!
An interesting comparison. Thank You.
Great video, take a look at the 557 Lux - possibly more beutiful and better made than the new 600
I like that bolt throwon the first model you showed
you forgot the 602's. the BRNO ZKK came as 601 short actions, 600 long actions and 602 magnum length actions.
Excellent post!
@UnitedStatesOfGuns love your channel, too, by the way 👍
In regard to the correct name for the ‘Czech Republic’ there is a Czech lady who comes to our whiskey tastings and she says that the Czechs call their country Czechy (Checky). She asserts that the word ‘Czechia’ is a foreign invention. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿!
Beautiful works of art.
Really recommend eye pro when shooting steel that close
Great advice
Great review, thanks
I sure agree !! CZ can build firearms. Im a collector of Ruger Revolvers. But when it comes to a bolt rifle and or a pistol, GIVE ME C Z
Great video! Excellent choice, sir!
Bolts with irons and throw in some walnut…
Classic is classic for a reason!
The words of wisdom and experience.
Sweet rifle. I do wonder about that short sight arrangement, however. Why place the rear sight so far forward?
Beautiful rifles, thank you for showing these great fire arms
You're most welcome Robert
These are beautiful examples and uts acshame well never see this quality of construction again.
Sooooo reminiscent of the 527 soviet carbine!!! But 8mm nice!!! 30'06 even nicer!!! It's one of my bucket list hunters.
Fantastic! Those CZs are unstoppable. Good on you!
Chris
CZ makes great rifle. I have a couple CZ 550s, 308 FS & 375 H&H.
The 527 7.62x39 "must have rifle"
If one can find
I own a cz600 in 223 it's super accurate with my nightforce scope a deadly combination
Set trligger is made for mountain hunting. That s why it is so ,so light but you can use it without it.
I have CZ 600 Lux in 223 Rem. (it's fantastic) and impatiently waiting for pre-ordered CZ 600 Trail also in 223 Rem. (which is my favorite caliber :)
Those CZ 600 in 223 are now on sale at the Tigar Oregon cabala's store for $606
There are 2 in 30-06 and one in 270 win now on the rack with 5 - in 223.
Cabala's will transfer guns from store to store .
I miss the 550! Best rifle ever made by CZ.
I know what you mean - maybe they will return
CZ 550 was the best one!
Love those open sights. Let's all pray for the day when the front sight does it look like an Oscar Mayer
Let us all pray for the day when the front sight doesn't look like an Oscar Mayer hot dog
Thanks
Nice. Im going to buy a barely used p350 stoeger pump shotgun. Ill need a shotgun for duck season coming soon since Im selling the Ithaca xl 900 12 gauge. Thinking of getting a keltec su16 too.
Cz makes some beautiful rifles for sure.
Ruger 77 were my go to for years.
When there prices went up nope cz all the way.
The ruger was good up 700$ after that the cz better and for now cheaper.
Great video Mike
Which although it has a 1:7 twist has a very short OAL capacity in the mag, just enough for 55gr.....
thank you
Love it. Would prefer in in 7x57mm Mauser. Great cartridge. Better still 7mm-08 or .308. Easier to find.
I agree - 7x57 probably my most preferred cartridge
I was looking at a CZ 600 but there is a recall here in the USA over the barrels. So not sure when you are going to be able to get them again here. I have a CZ 527 and it shoots dead straight until about 3 rounds and when the barrel starts to heat up a little the shot group rapidly expands to 4 inches or so.
The 527 is great as well!
@UnitedStatesOfGuns Thank-you for quick response! Have a great day!
Like those simple guns.
I want to check them out!
Like the 555 version.
shooting with iron sights is fun.
Up to 150 meters or so, my eyes age at the same rate the rest of me does...
Wise words; in the thick mountain forests shots are often just like that. Thank you Sporde.
Personally I prefer wood stocks on hunting rifles. I love the look of them especially with high grade wood.
Same here
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Years ago I bought an Anschutz 1517 DHB and the stock is beautiful. I was considering getting a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 until I saw the CZ 600 series, now I'm looking into getting one of those in the same caliber.
Awhile back I tried to find a CZ in m43, but I couldn't even find one
Looks like that 8×57 hit the hardest.
@USOG What distance are the iron sites adjusted to when it comes out of the box? Thanks.
Hi Peter - Usually 100 yards or 100 meters if European
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns Thank you for that. I have a 600 Lux but have not had the chance to get to the range because of snow and a wheelchair. I will have to wait till spring when both of those are gone. Cheers from Rossland BC.
Look man you remind me of my old doctor 👨⚕️ but your vids are good
