i agree. some schools think tan sao is a defense so they aim it at the shoulder. i think its a misunderstanding. tan sao is to train the elbow to be in the right place for our well aligned straight punch
Different stages have different requirements, in first form and second form they are train for different things, this is showing the conclusion, so if you don't know how the conclusion comes, you feel confused
some schools do not use tan sao as defense. in our system, tan sao is for training the punch. We therefore aim for the centre, in order to get our elbow in the right structure. i train my tan in the centre, therefore you are forced to bring your fuk sao also to the centre. therefore we are both training our structure and our punch. if you aim for the shoulder with your tan sao, the other can relax his fuk sao more and then we are not training our structure as much. this is how i understand it in our lineage. tan trains our punch. fuk sao trains our punch. we dont use them as applications to stop other techniques. this is quite a big difference.
He’s not chewing gum he’s doing jaw strengthening exercise for the next segment when sifu punch him in the jaw.
Very interesting video by the master, but I don't think the student should be chewing gum during the seminar!
