  • A parody of the Tammy Wynette country hit of the same name, this reached No 1 in the UK singles chart in 1975. To this day it probably remains better known than the original - in the UK at least! - a fitting testament to one of our greatest comedians.
    Billy Connolly released a further two parody songs in the 1970’s, but neither were as successful as this classic.

    The genius of this song is that although it's based on a C&W hit, it only sounds right in a Weegie accent. Ah, those were the days... sex was safe, Michael Jackson was black, and Billy Connolly was funny. How the world changes.
