BYD Seal With 517 HP And 650 KM Range For 43,000 USD. Chinese electric vehicle company BYD has launched a Tesla Model 3-rivaling electric sedan in its domestic market, ahead of an expected Australian launch in early 2023.
The mid-size electric sedan is badged BYD Seal in China but could adopt the Atto 4 nameplate locally.
BYD Seal is based on a BYD e-platform 3.0. Its main benefits are safety, space, and comfort. It also has CTB (Cell to Body) technology. It means the Seal’s battery is integrated into the frame. With CTB technology, the Seal’s floor is the top cover of the battery. But don’t worry: BYD claims the battery can handle even a 50-ton pressure. Moreover, with CTB technology, the Seal’s torsional rigidity reaches 40,000 Nm/degree. It is slightly less than the Porsche Taycan, with 42,000 Nm/degree.
Measuring 4800mm in length, 1875mm in width, and 1460mm in height, the BYD Seal is around 160mm longer but 58mm slimmer than the Model 3 - and similar in size to a Toyota Camry.

I like the looks of this car. I like the inclusion of an inverter (1:30). I'm a little concerned about fingerprints and dust accumulating on the very shiny plastics (2:50) and I wonder if reflections of sun off the plastics will be distracting or annoying. Hard to know. I look forward to hearing more.

You can't buy it. byd's sales in China are ridiculously high. In China, you have to wait in line for months to pick up your car.

It's interesting how now the Chinese produce beautiful vehicles, while Europe produces ugly and expensive ones
They should've priced it closer the the nio et5 and tesla model 3 imo. Make a nice profit on each one instead of trying to undercut the cars in its class. Byd makes almost nothing on ev cars compared to tesla.
And this car is imo the first legit model 3 competitor. Minus a few things like top speed, acceleration overall charging time etc.
So it could easily be $5,000-$8,000 more and still sell well. Just under the m3 and nio et5.
I wonder how it'll do when exported to the EU etc? 👍🏻
This is to build its initial reputation by attracting buyers with attractive pricing. Once the brand is mature in the market, they have room to increase the price.
They already make a profit selling it in global markets for $40-50k, they sell for about half that price in China domestic market
