Push the axles in from both sides and the C clips will fall inside the housing. The axles will easily pull out after that. Replace the c clips upon reinstall
I"m not trying to be a know it all. but that diff didn't have C clips inside holding the axles like a 12 does. you didn't need to pull the cover or the cross pin to get the axles out. still a good video. l like that slid hammer it's a beast.
Yeah the backing plate holds in the axle so i pulled out the bolts holding on the backing plate to remove the axles. I pulled everything apart to inspect and sandblast the housing 👍
@@OutlawEdge No he's saying the "c" clips on the other end of the axels where the gears are there should be c clips that need removed before you use the puller.
You left out an important detail. This rear end, as you said, is from an Oldsmobile chassis. Buick and Olds 8.5's are different from Chevy's, as they aren't retained with C-clips. Therefore the removal procedure will be very different on a Chevy.
@@markt9438 There are different versions of 10 bolt axles. Some have c-clips, some don't. The versions used in Oldsmobile don't have c-clips, the ones in Chevrolet do.
@@Jason-zw2dg unbolt the bearing holder and pull that out. Then u should be able to get a long bar inside the ring gear housing and hit it with a big hammer to knock it loose. Give it a try and see what happens bro ARCO
@@OutlawEdge Cool thanks ARCO it's a Buick old Pontiac deal bolt in 10 bolt axle rear no adjustments I never had one in hand.... went and read up on it on the H.A.M.B. board learn something new every day! Later Chevy 10 bolts are c clip type axles that I have dealt with before.
I made something way easy large bolt approximately 1 1/2 inches long , try to make this as long as you can. with three nuts on it two that are locked in place and one with washers in front of it big enough to go against the spider gears then holding the lock nuts in rotating the night against the washers in between the center of the two axles and by pushing up against the spider gear it will push out one of the axles then just reverse it and do the other one against the opposite spider gear this is the easiest and safest way I know!
5 a. m. My time. When this went out. So I must be about 100th again😩. Was there any obvious damage to the spline lands or excessive wear anywhere? 🤔Arco.
How does this man not have more subscribers. So versatile and so much knowledge and he's sharing it for free.
I looked for the best 10 bolt rear end video and this one popped up!!! Awesome Arco!!!

This is either a B or O type axle. Retained by the flange with four bolts, not with c-clips.
I just changed the rear end in my truck because that 5/16 bolt that holds that pin that holds spider gears in broke off. Boy did that suck.
Awesome puller Arco!
Nice and simple. I wonder if a big ass prybar will do the same on a stuck axle
What if the pin is stuck and doesn’t want to slide out after taking the 5/16 bolt off ? 1:55
@@miguelreyes6144 you can use a brass punch to knock it out 👍

What's that puller called again? The big Joey? 😂

Not on 10 bolts 8.5 Olds Cutlass they do not have c clips he nailed it

No C clips? I thought the trademark of GM was those C clips!
I'm wondering how he got them off without removing the clips myself 🤔
Olds and Buick rear ends didn't have those.
I use a magnet to pull the pin out Works everytime
Thankyou.very clear and to the point
Would you have the info on where I can find those longer wheel studs?
Yeah they are race car wheel studs from speedway 👍😁 ARCO
How do you get the axle shaft out if it broke halfway through inside the axle?

Hi I have a 70 Monte Carlo. I am looking for new axels and I want to confirm they aren’t c clip type?
@@moniquesanchez9576 is that a 10 bolt or 12 bolt rearend?
How is axle bearing end play adjusted on this rear or is it non adjustable?
As far as i know its not adjustable bro 👍

Why remove the spider gears if there’s no c clips
@@michaelcaskey2745 the only reason I did that is the pin falls out and the spider goose fall out on the ground or inside the case

Awesome video.....
Limited slip differential G80
Painful
Push axle in, spin, & pull it out don't have to pull 4 backing plate bolts to do an axle....smh
Just like that!!!
Exellent idea, very good extractor.
Good job brother! Not you Joe Schmoe!
5 am, and I am still late...😅🤘🏻
so you only have 1 axle? Not posi? I have posi and looking to how remove both
Its pretty much the same way. Its kinda simple bro. Just dive in and do it. Don’t let it intimidate you. 👍thanks for watching
