Trying to figure out Urianger's manner of speaking is a multistep process. First, you might wonder if it's just how some people in that world speak. Then, you might think it's partly a nationality thing. Finally, it becomes increasingly clear as you get closer to and then into Endwalker that, no, that's just how he talks cause he's extra nerdy and a bit awkward.
Listening to Urianger speak is like learning an entirely new language. At first, you have no idea what he's saying and only get a general idea based on a few key words and what others are saying. But as time passes, you'll be able to understand him just fine.
Yep. I was intentionally reading his dialogue normally after deciphering it in the base game, but I think either near the end of the base game story or at the start of Heavensward I stopped, and come Shadowbringers I can understand and speak fluent Uriangese.
It's especially funny because canonically the Echo is supposed to translate all language for you so that you understand it. Which means Uriang-ese transcends Hydaelyn's ability to understand.
@@summerguy6 that appears to be something wholly unique to powerful dragons, Alphinaud saying something along the lines of, “I hear dragon talk in my ears but can also hear it in my mind.” But people with Echo can understand all spoken languages, from lesser dragons, to voidsent, to random monsters like the gremlin in the ShB trailer, even a particular Chocobo(?). They make reference to that ability quite a bit throughout the story. But, doesn’t seem to work on Uriangese
The reason Urianger didn't reveal his face so early is because of how hot he was. He only started revealing it much more because we got used to it. But even then, he has the best charm only a scarce few characters can measure up to.
@RuneKatashima Exactly, and heck this was the last time he kept secrets *of his own volition* too. But the dude just wanted to respect those people's wishes, even if he wholeheartedly disagreed with them.

This was the moment Urianger's new VA won me over. A big FFXII fan and so I loved Gideon's portrayal, but Timothy truly brings a thespian edge to the character.
Regrettably, I always dismissed Urianger as a side character, as well as Yda and Papalymo. I mostly ignored what they said. Then Papalymo sacrificed himself, and I regretted neglecting him. And Yda became Lyse, the protagonist of Stormblood and I was proud of her for it and she became my wife. And now Urianger builds himself up to one of the best entrances in the game. Welcome to the main cast.
And we know now what made Moenbryda fall in love with him... and also why he hid his face. He is just shy and doesn't want attention. Well he got it now.
Honestly, going through this whole thing, I never thought he'd actually betrayed us, but I had a gameplay reason for it. He's the quest giver for the Bahamut raid. If he betrayed us, he wouldn't appear in the waking sands again, and the whole quest chain would need to be rewritten without him. I can understand some minor plot holes from the nature of quest design. For example, I started Dragoon right after finishing 3.0 but before any patch content. Estinien shows up in that quest despite being kind of busy at the moment. But it might just be a step too far to have a character who we might know to be against us working with us without a word, That's assuming the player doesn't understand how the format of the game works, but you can't assume anything when it's someone's first game of this style for example.
