Great video with such useful tips! The one other thing I mound caution has to do with the ring’s metal. On the moon magic site, I noticed that the ring you pointed out was actually rose gold vermeil, not just rose gold. Everyone should keep in mind that items saying “plated” or “vermeil” will not last very long and will definitely not hold up to everyday wear. Plated items could last as little as a few weeks before wearing down to the base metal and vermeil could last a few months to a year or two. Items labeled “filled” will last longer because they have a much thicker coating. These rings will still likely not last a lifetime, however. I would urge everyone to go for solid metals. A friend of mine got a Herkimer diamond ring. It’s a natural stone that isn’t a diamond at all, but it is clear and has decent sparkle when very clean. The one down side for her was that she kept going back and forth on the styles she liked, so she ended up spending over $1,000 on three rings over the course of a year or two. I sometimes wonder if she would have been happier spending that much on a different ring from the beginning. Hard to say!
Oh! Two other things. If you or someone you know ends up with an expensive ring, please get insurance/urge them to get it. It’s heartbreaking to lose a ring, but at least a good insurance company will cover the cost of replacing it. Jewelers Mutual is supposed to be the best because they let you work with a jeweler of your choice to replace a lost ring rather than having to go with one they select (or an in-house jeweler). Lastly, consider checking with family to see if they have a ring you might want to use. This could end up being perfect for those who are sentimental or have strong attachment to family.
YES! Thank you! I should have mentioned that too! My sister actually had her ring stolen (twice! seriously... long story!) and didn't have insurance on it the first time. So heartbreaking!
