    Thank you for showing me how to make tortillas! My mom grew up in NM and then moved to Denver when she was 14. I would always watch my mom make tortillas but I never asked how she did it or wrote anything down, sadly. It’s exactly like you always say, everyone grew up differently and learned differently. My mom WOULD use cumin and chicken broth. But I know if I was in your kitchen I’d love your cooking because you remind me of family. My grandpa was a Martinez and I remember my mom talking about HER grandpa just like you speak of yours. A different time, people were kinder it seems. The next time I’m in ABQ if I happen to run into you I’m going to have to hug you ♥️

    My grandma always had drawer full of tortillas, I made them with her when I was a little girl and other things, she didn't have a nice cooking surface like yours though, we cooked them in the cast iron skillet

    Maria I have used your tortillas to make Mexican pizza. I make them a little thicker and it’s great thank you. Penny from Montreal. Merci

    Your video made me happy. Your video came on as I was rolling out my tortilla so we were cooking together. What brand is your outdoor stove that has your comal in it with a lid. That is so cool. Also i roll my tortillas thin. They dont have time to crack, they disappear quickly 😂

    Your tortillas look thick, not so thin. I like them that way.
    They beat store bought paper thin
    tortillas. Thank you.

    I still love my cook books as opposed to looking up a recipe online. I want authentic new mexico food, not a generic.

    Hello Maria. Haven't commented in awhile. I sadly, lost my husband last year and my desire to cook and be social has left me. I hope your husband is well now? My beloved was only 62. Anyway, I woke up this morning for the craving of homemade tortillas, and being a white girl, wasn't taught from my mothers. So I said, I'll look one up and immediately remembered you! I enjoy your videos and as I have said, only you teach it right, the New Mexican way lol. So I am going into my kitchen and cut the recipe in half, and work on my round tortillas, that usually look like a Volkswagen 😊! I'll have to catch up on the videos over the last 2yrs that my Huan needed care and I didn't have time to watch. Blessings to your family and I did say a prayer to your beloved❤

    I can barely hear anything you are saying, how long do you cook the tortillas? How big should the balls be?? How much shortening did you use??? How many cups of water??

    • @MargaretsKitchenNM
      @MargaretsKitchenNM  3 года назад

      About 20 seconds on each side, it also depends on the thickness
