    Great video, love the content and info. I am so ready for this. I am trying to find a coworker that has Starlink so I can ask them to put my address as though they were going to move and look to see if it was available. If yes, then I would find an address as You described, receive the equipment, set it up, then transfer my address. I am tired of only having bad cell service including for telework.

    Awesome video. Currently, I have my service address in Vermont but I live in Florida. I was planning on spending the summer in VT in my RV but injured my back. Therefore I deactivated my service in Vermont. I now plan on taking my RV out at various locations in Florida that do have Starlink service. If I turn on Portability, will it work even though my service address is about1700 miles away in Vermont?

    Ok a few questions.
    1). I am on the waiting list and it says service will be available mid 2022 but about 15 miles away I could switch the address and get it within a week. My location that I currently have it reserved for is at capacity so if I switch the address to get it sooner will I be able to switch back to my actual address since it’s at capacity with orders?

    • @ScruffyGolden
      @ScruffyGolden  2 года назад

      Hi Bradley. It's impossible to know ahead of time if you will be able to switch it back once you have the equipment. Having said that, with roaming it is becoming less and less of an issue (if an issue at all). It has now been several weeks since I last changed my registered address and I seem to be able to use the service anywhere it has been available.

      I picked a Service Address in Montana for immediate shipping, delivered to my Las Vegas, NV address in a week but....at first was unable to use at my Vegas address because system was too full to allow new customers but after Roaming was turn on, I was able to use it at my address. This is not 100% foolproof because it depends on your specific address and if there is service available , how full the cell is, etc. I have heard of people being able to use the dish up to 20 miles away from their logged Service Address but again will vary by customer.

      @@RabbilAzam If you want it ASAP, just order it with a service address that has availability, but then change the 'shipping address' to your home address. I did that and skipped the year long wait. When I got my dish, I kept trying to change my service address to nearby locations until it finally worked. My servcice address is currently set to a location almost 100 miles away and I still get 200-300 download speeds.

    I want to use Starlink on a sailing Yacht. I am wondering how well it would work out of the box, can the dish be modified to work better and how extremely off grid it can go. Can I use a GPS Lat/Long or do I need an address?

      Stationary (at harbour) should be no problem. On water, your boat will rock. This can be tempered by a gimbeled mount, my feeling is this will be sufficient for intermittant connection. Big problem is: if you change heading, either on anker (swinging) or sailing. So either you need a motor that turns the dish mount according to your heading (getting heading information from the ships compass), or, and this seems to work on RV-vehicules, just make the dish being flat by deactivating the tilt motor. If haven't tried both things yet, as I'm still on inland waters, but this is how far my research went. Interested to hear other expirience.

    Hi there! Interesting video, not much on this topic yet. I have a question. I am such a noob but I hope you will help me to figure it out. So what i want is to livestream to youtube and twitch my working day in a tesla. I work in New York City as a limo/Uber black driver and i drive Tesla Model X 2018 for this business. Customers love falcon wing doors lol. So i decided to try to stream my workday live, first its a beautiful city and nice car so who not, right? Here is the problem, basically - you cant have any internet Upload speed over 5mbps on existing network of Cell Phone operators at least so that signal would be more or less stable. Do you think that i would be better off trying to mount starlink on my tesla lol?

    • @ScruffyGolden
      @ScruffyGolden  2 года назад +1

      Hello and Thank you! Starlink has said they are working on a mobile version of their product at least in part because the dish cannot stand up to the stresses, at all the different angles, put on it when mounted on a moving vehicle. Even a vehicle as sweet as yours. :-)
      For that reason alone, I wouldn't recommend it.

      @@ScruffyGolden I saw a video on FB today where a guy was testing his own flat Starlink ant on his car and it was working but I cant remember where. It was on one of the Starlink pages tho. BTW, I ordered a dish out of a small town over by Houston and live in Tucson, AZ . When It got here I changed my addy to my off grid cabins GPS location in N.E. AZ and it accepted it. I haven't been there to set the dish up yet but before it would only let me put a deposit on it thus my reason for searching another area . I'm going there Saturday and will check and see if it indeed does work there. On my account page it lists my GPS cords and says they only guarantee it to work at that addy!

      @@dragally1 I saw a video here on youtube, I will try to find it later, guy totally ripped apart his StarLink terminal and made it flat so he placed it on top of his minivan and drove with roaming on. The only times he had worse signal was when he was under the underpass or when the sky was not visible at all... I cant wait to go live, but upload speed is quite a problem especially when all cell networks overloaded at crowdy places (in NYC its every where)

      Hi Jangles. Yes, I've seen something like that too. And, frankly, it's hard to imagine the dish can hold up to the winds we've been getting this year in Colorado, and not hold up on an RV. I'm guessing there are scenarios where it doesn't work very well so it is not recommended. Hopefully the "mobile" version of Starlink will have a mobile version of the dish as well.
      Let us know if your setup worked for you!

    Good video. (After your step: Debug Data the steps fail. Sept 2022. So I can find nothing in the current version of the App that indicates Roaming. ) Friday Starlink arrived at my Marina - so I got Starlink in a week. (Ventura County, California).
    I just logged into Starlink (after a password reset... annoying crap. Are there two passwords one for the app and one for my Starlink WiFi? Who knows (I did this yesterday and I don't remember. There is nothing incompetent or unusual about this.) I logged in, (even though the App should've never logged out) so that I could add Roaming.
    Password change. (ugh) Click to add Roaming $25/month, and... it's added? There was no screen explaining Roaming, no change on my billing. (When I drive back to Los Angeles later I'll find out if it still works. It will be fun anchored off the Channel Islands. Starlink is a key part of my sail cruising the world plans. It's getting here sooner than I expected!)
    Of course Starlink gets better and better; the human interface however... is either automatic and you don't have to even think about it, or it isn't automatic and you have to google. (My initial WiFi password I had to immediately re-type into my iPhone....where I'd just set it. it didn't work. So I had to figure out how to reset the device (btw there was no Starlink on the WiFi list, but there was Stinky. That was another google search. Cute.) Then I moved the antenna. It was pointing at the mast of my boat, so I moved it to the other side. (Didn't improve the Mbps). Soon, but not immediately it got slower and slower and then everything started falling back to using my iPhone and LTE as a hotspot. ???? That was another Google. Apparently the cable doesn't plug into the back of the 'dishy' very well. It's up the tube and already plugged in when it arrives - so how would I know this? The cable just disappears up the vertical tube. I pushed on it - as in what can you do? Then try that first.
    How does Roaming work? All I know is from your video (Hearty Thank You!) from Starlink..... silence.
    I would wish that at some point these tech companies would bring in someone's very practical mom - you know the woman who can organize a school event as complex as D-Day and it all goes off without a hitch. Does it work for Mrs K* (one of my absolute heroes) if not, fix it. Then it will be easier for everybody. It's all an adventure....
