    It's great to see a video about classic mini automatic gearbox in a positive light. Seems most mini enthusiasts dislike them and when they see a mini auto they think that it will make a good body donor.

      I like the automatics, it was ahead of its time and is still fun to drive.

      @@classicminiculture9800 Totally agree, a lot of people don't realise how advanced it was when it was introduced. I also suspect that this gearbox is the same one that David Brown are using in their 'Mini Remastered' that people are paying £100,000 for.

      @@regcotterill7332 how do you mean the "same" ?

      @@martinfidel7086 The same as in the AP Mark 11b that I have in mine although perhaps an upgraded version. Possibly like the upgraded one you sell.

      i'm 100% sure the DB conversions do NOT have upgraded AP2 units as far as I know I am the only company making uprated AP parts and I currently only sell them within assembled units :) but tI guess there is no reason why they cannot buy one of my units and fit it into one of their cars, I did contact them with the idea of selling to them but nothing really came of it.

    These automatic videos are great. I live in New Zealand and have a Japanese automatic 1997 mini. There are not many resources available to help in servicing these here as they are rare. Mine transmission will need some work done as I've lost reverse and 3rd and 4th gear. Only 1st and 2nd gears are working. Look forward to more of your videos and to see the build continue. Thanks again, keep up the great work

      Dominic is it slipping on these gears or just not engaging at all?

    • @dominicskinner6806
      @dominicskinner6806 4 года назад

      @@classicminiculture9800 They don't appear to engage at all. reverse just doesn't feel like its there now, and while in drive it will only auto shift 1st and 2nd, 3rd doesn't engage. Thanks for the response

      @@dominicskinner6806 it sounds like the forward clutch, good news is that these can still be sourced in the UK, bad news is that it is a engine out job, you will need to open one side of the gear box to do it, and the gearbox sits on the subframe, so no way around it.......

      @@classicminiculture9800 thought as much, thank you again. Btw what oil have you found best for autos, I've had mixed info on this and I know you actually have more auto experience. Thanks again

      @@dominicskinner6806 the different advice you receive is based on the different climates around the world, oil in engines is particularly affected by this, I've tried many different versions, but in the end, I found the automatics to run smoother on Castrol Classic 20/50w.
