    I've never heard of an automatic transmission that shares the engine oil before; it's amazing that the same oil can lubricate the engine, the gearing, the differential and the clutchpacks while serving as the medium for the torque converter. It's also noteworthy that BMC enabled all 4 clutch combinations while most of the world's automatics were only allowing shifts, effectively, from 2 to 4 (though it might have been more descriptive to number the speeds from 0 to 3) in order to avoid having to flip 2 clutches at once. I'm sure this involved some compromises, but it's still quite an accomplishment. Thanks for posting this.

    Superb video. The lack of information on AP2 minis is shocking. I can find very little online regarding tuning, what power the AP2 can cope with, what modifications can be made to the box.
    I have been trying to find out what 3rd party ECU could be used as a replacement for MEMS to have more control over ignition and fueling.
    Really enjoyed the video. You're engine and gearbox look ace.
    The only sources I could find were the Facebook group and the Automatic mini Register and the book
    Foulis overhaul manual: AP automatic transmission for BLMC Mini, Austin/Morris 1100/1300, and Austin America
    And all the questions answered by Martin on forums!
    Cheers

    I've got a mini engine and automatic gearbox in my garage. Does the torque converter have any ATF in it or does it just use the same engine and gearbox oil? I want to put this engine and gearbox in a new shell as a present for my wife. I'm not a machanic and don't confess to being one. Just thought it would be nice . Anyone knows please as it the moment i can start the engine but when moving the triangle bit it doesn't take up drive . Thanks everyone.

    Hi, a few questions.
    The new gearbox I assume is from ap2 world? Which version did you decide on and why?
    What made you drop the engine below vs pull it out the top? And what was the approx time it took you to remove the engine?
    What is the model of scissor lift you use for the car lift?

    • @classicminiculture9800
      @classicminiculture9800  Год назад +2

      Greetings, Yes gearbox is an AP2, late model with the park and larger crank bearings, the later gearboxes leak less because the park feature closes the oil port better, there is no right or wrong way to remove the engine, top or bottom works, personally, I prefer the bottom when doing automatics because you need a little more clearance on the subframe, the automatic gearbox is larger than the manual so it just gives you more wiggle room.

      @@classicminiculture9800 thanks, personally I have a 94 with park already and I wouldn't think about downgrading that. 🙃
      So that gearbox is the middle one they offer. The upgraded but not the full racing gearbox? That's what I was looking at myself.
      I didn't think any way was wrong just curious why you decided that way and your explanation makes sense, I've not removed one yet but trying to come up with the best way to attach it the initial way. 😁
      Thanks for the info and great videos!!
