Congratulations, some of those junctions and turns on the detour were rather challenging but other drivers were courteous enough to help, which is good.
while you had it I thought you would swap out that 950ph Cat motor into your Mack truck or into your Dodge pickup - I promise they will not miss it. haha!
You were right, it was a great video. Ridiculous route selected for you. Must have been by a computer geek in the DOT of ... was it Illinois? You are one hell of a driver, Uncle Sergie. But the scene that will give me a nightmare is that Speedway. When I was driving bus, I'd dream I'd driven into a dead end like the Speedway "drive way" too narrow to go forward, too curvy to back out. Then I'd wake up enough to open my eyes, see the little lights on all the electronics, and lay there trying to plot my route through the road I dreamt they marked. All the self-satisfied blowhards can belittle my driving, but that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
Uncle Sergei, when you do a over sized load how restricted are you to interstate highways and are there times when you have to detour down two lane highways because of weight or height restrictions and then you have to have an escort ?
Jimm Pearson Regular freeways are usually okay, unless there's construction and then they might limit the maximum allowed width. i stopped going on i-69 in MI when oversized because recently you have to do 60 mile detour near Flint (!). When my Dispatch orders permits they try to route me off the toll highways because then it's another charge and toll highways can be expensive when you're overweight and/or oversize. i don't like using escort/pilot cars because it further reduces my revenue. but sometimes there's no escaping them: e.g., when i go from baltimore port (md) up to canada, they often want us to have escorts through maryland (from the port to the Penn border, which is only 45 miles BUT the escort service charges about 1.50 a mile on all miles (2 way trip). so, 90 times 1.50 is another 135 bucks taken from the top. since i'm paid percentage, i'm sensitive to this sort of things ;)
Uncle Sergei I know how it can all add up when working as a Owner Operator for years I know how every cent can count when it's all you have at the end of the day when all the work is done it all comes down to the bottom line , I always thought there was good money in Heavy hauling is that true ?
many big companies adopted them. i work for a small carrier and we use paper logs. i don't think it matters a lot unless you want to run 1000 miles a day. but you asked what changed and so i thought of these two things. also, routing became easier since you can get a truck specific GPS. i don't think they were available 10 years ago.
***** I appreciate your input. e-logs could be a drag if you are stuck in traffic a lot. And yes... I still have my old Rand McNally. I would look forward to the GPS. Do you have any suggestions who to work for and who runs west. I used to work for Harrow out of Milton. I used to do a lot of Arizona, Texas and west coast. I thought if maybe I should buy my own truck but just seems like more headaches if I don't have to. Hope I'm not bugging you. I was thinking I should head down to the Filthy (Fifth) Wheel ask there. Any ways.... Keep the greasy side down.
Try Challenger out of Cambridge. That's where I started back in 2005. I was with them 2 years before i bought my first truck. They're pretty good for a Canadian company. www.challenger.com
I had a much bigger detour in michigan near flint: i69 to i75 north to Birch Run MI (exit 136), then m54 east to m83 north to m46 east to m24 south to m90 east to m19 south and back to i69 east in Emmett Michigan right before Port Huron. This probably added at least 60 extra miles to the 'bomag trip'!
hello sergei are you canadian ? what kind of driving license do i need to drive big truck like you do ? i like all your videos and you are great driver thank you for sharing your trips with us
You can see I-294 looking across the quarry in Thornton, IL... It's actually mile 2 of I-294/I-80 (Tri-State Tollway)
Congratulations, some of those junctions and turns on the detour were rather challenging but other drivers were courteous enough to help, which is good.
Excellent video. The 330 does a fine job at 720p with excellent audio.
This is awesome. . I do local, you drove trough the heart of my Thursday route.. on Thursday lol. I was hoping to see my self.
Mr. Sergei - your videos are very educational and entertaining. Whenever your retire from truck driving, you can be a university professor
Better picture and sound than he 520.

Benny ofAtlanta 950 hp ... i didn't even know CAT made such powerful engines. It's probably a variation of a marine power plant or something ....
did u wish you had a self steering pusher axle on the mack truck?
Nice video uncle Sergei, thank you.
Where do I leave the Thumbs Up for The Flex Belt advert?
and i can barely drive a 6 speed... nice driving!
Great video,. Thanks for sharing.
How long was the run from pick up to delivery point?
kamara_trucker kamara 1,275 miles + app. 30 mi detour in IL and 60 mi detour in MI; so the whole loaded trip was 1,365 miles or 2,184 KM long.
***** oh wow those detours was long, however you made good money and enjoyed yourself...

Another fine video Sergei I like this dashcam the best the Pappago 330 you got the windsheild very clean ,nice unloading that behemoth machine !
Hey Sergei, I'm thinking about going back on the road. What has changed in the last 11 years? Thanks...
+blthetube1 price of fuel and introduction of e-logs.
***** I heard about e-logs. Is that putting a major dent in the bottom line. Does everyone have to have one?

You should've had flagged force when you were on those back roads. Too narrow for you.
