Final Fantasy 8 is without doubt one of the most controversial installments of Square's long-running franchise. The overhaul of the combat system, the oft-complained about moody protagonist, and the increasing detachment from the 'fantasy' aesthetic are just some of the factors that have lead this game to be criticised strongly from some quarters.
