Realistic combat rules: both players roll dice. High roller loses all infantry. Low roller loses all infantry. Winner advances 3 feet.

Amazing board game , actually the first I purchased and the reason why I am into boardgaming as a hobby. I will never forget the first time I got my friends to sit around the table and split the world amongst as we fought for supremacy . I ve since trie multiple strategies and can verify that both Entente and Central Powers have a good shot at victory . Loved the throwback

Your thoughts were exactly what I felt on this version of A&A. I see a lot of people seemingly complaining about the slower nature of the combat system, but to me, that's exactly what made this one stand out to me, especially considering the nature of ww1. Spot on man! Good review!

I know some ppl like the board tracker but I use the axis and allies utility app which is relatively simple and helps track both purchases and ipcs for most axis and allies vs along with turn order and timers really helpful I find.

I wondered how they would do the static Trench Warfare. Good to see that they thought out how airplanes would influence the game and that tanks do not come in until later in the game.

Convinced me, I've wanted this title for years and would just check now and then and game stores and rarely saw it. I just saw it at my game store where I play weekly Warhammer games last night. This will join my DUNE reprint on the shelf for a while but it'll bring me immense pleasure to have even if I only run through it vs myself a handful of times.

Interesting review. The way aircraft influence artillery strength sounds good. Combat in the original AA isn't one of the game's best points but it sounds like they've tried to reproduce some key features of the era in this one.

The combat system is certainly a highlight and the rules around Russia is a neat attempt to try to represent more detailed political elements within the constraints of A&A systems. That said, I think it is a telling 'feature' that the only way to reach the historical war result is effectively the Central Powers player just getting tired of playing and giving up.

I disagree, I have many Axis and Allies games and I think this is the best version.
It is quite hard for the central powers to win but that's historically as it should be.
Have your most experienced player play either Germany or Austria-Hungary and that will balance the game up nicely.
      Enjoy.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer

You must set up all of your attacks before you execute them. You can't attack somewhere, then choose to attack somewhere else, then somewhere else. All decisions on attacks have to be made before you roll any dice.

I don´t really know what to think of the map - with a reprint like this, one could have paid a little more attention to detail on the map. Let’s take the border between Germany and Denmark. While it is not incorrect as to where the true border was, the southern part of Jutland (Denmark) had been occupied by Germany for 50 years by the beginning of The Great War, and those men living in that area were forced to fight in the German army and also die for "Das Waterland" even though they thought of themselves as Danes. I think a shading or diaconal lines on areas like that would have been nice.

Apart from the absolutely atrocious map design (general layout and lack of at least semi-reasonable proportions) that they kept from the original version, this game seems like a winner on the surface. I might pick it if a better map ever makes its way to the internet.
The only question I have is, if battles last more than one turn, does the game allow you to reinforce forces or can you not add in units to a contested area?

  • @loopyxo9575
    @loopyxo9575 Год назад +2

This game is not the best of the Axis And Allies line, it's to slow paced for me. Some hose rules we use to speed up the game are:
    1. +1 to all the combat values on the battleboard, for both attacking and defending
    2. You do not start with mines automatically on a sea zone you control with a port. You have to leave a transport (i.e., Minelayer) in that zone to show that the zone is mined. Roll a die for every enemy ship that enters the zone, roll of 1 destroys/damages enemy ship. The enemy ships can decide to attack the minelayer, if they hit, no more mines in that zone.
    3. First to capture paris or berlin wins.

I don't understand your initial question. Yes, Germany and its allies were known as the Central Powers in WWI, but the brand name of the game is Axis and Allies - they weren't going to change it for the sake of historical accuracy.
