The salt and snow melt solutions in the parking lot could be hurting Opie’s pads - this may be why he whines when he’s in the lot and not in the snow banks. If he doesn’t take to wearing boots there are paw balms you can apply to his pads after washing them to help keep them from cracking… they’re good to use this time of year anyway. Stay safe & warm!
Hi Kurt, thanks for the great videos as always. Just a thought. I love the sound of that W-900 as you are driving down the highway. I was diagnosed with PTSD a few years ago (after over 20 years as a LEO) and I find listening to white noise videos on youtube at night helps to drown out the monsters and allow me to get to sleep. It would be awesome of you could do a sound track of First Class going through the gears and running down the highway and do a loop so it continues for a few hours as a truck sound video. Something about the sound of First Class just instantly relaxes me and of course who doesn't like the purr of a Kitty Cat. Keep on trucking and stay safe out there.
I am 70 years old. A couple years ago I worked in Sioux City at an office FEMA had set up for flood victims. After coming back home to Kentucky I started watching your videos and became a huge fan. Been to La Mars marry times to eat at Iowa Barbeque and of course always had to stop in and get an ice cream. Love your videos.
I saw on Weather Channel and via a Vet that there are different kinds of salt used depending on conditions and such and that it can be very irritating to dogs paws. I would wonder if it could cause chemical burns if not cleaned off well enough. I think boots are the way to go, socks will just wick up the moisture and chemicals and hold it against his feet...
Hi Kurt! A lot of the salt used in parking lots and on sidewalks are really bad for dog paws and will actually burn them. Our Vet told use to avoid the salt and that the dogs can get a lot of pain from the salt. FYI. Keep on trucking!
Kurt first class was slightly grumpy with the cold start, the kitty (CAT) was grumpy You are not old enough for old man white new balance sneakers. A orange or the yellow vest is a good idea for Opie. I don’t know if he will like the dog boots. Most dogs take some time to get comfortable wearing them. Take care safe travels
So being a kid born way back in dec 1961! Growing up in Indiana! I was and still am a Chiefs fan Lenny the cool #16/89 taylor and all the Chiefs from then to now! Also my father started our local vol fire dept way back in 1947 that me and my wife were part of. We had a Dalmatian that let our daughter ride like a horse but if I was gone trucking the hair on his back made some stand outside the door and wait on their check. What a great dog!
I watch you an a few other trucker videos an you show me what I'm missing. My goal was to be a owner operator like you but get diabetes at 13yrs just blew that out of the water. I enjoy your videos an the whole family! Keep up the good work
When I trucked for West Side Transport I purchased waterproof New Balance "high top" dark briwn shoes. Still have them 6 years later. I wear white dad New Balance 928 V3 shoes as normal every day shoes. Helps my foot after being struck by lightning near Denison in August 2014
Yea i would think Opie for sure needs boots walking around in snow and ice. A coat would not hurt either, just for extra protection against the cold. Stay safe and warm.
Hey Kurt. I don’t usually comment on videos of the channels I follow but I’m compelled to give you some unsolicited advice. I’m a driver for a mega carrier and am a Des Moines resident. Fellow Iowa boy. (and I also have a canine co pilot) WOOF! I have recently signed onto a dedicated route that goes between Cresco, Iowa and Laredo, Texas. I prefer OTR as it affords me the ability to see our beautiful country but I was looking to get home a little more often. This dedicated route allows that. The advice I offer is merely this… The Kwik Stars are fantastic places to stop. I stop at them whenever I can. I rarely eat fast food while on the road. It just doesn’t agree with me. I cook in the truck as much as possible. Kwik Stars are by far the best place to buy food for a truck driver. So many great options. The pre packaged pasta dinners are very tasty and simple to microwave. They also sell bacon wrapped fillets that are great in my air fryer. To be honest I probably eat better on the road than I do when I’m home. I wish that Kwik Star was a nation wide chain. That’s my advice… take it for what it’s worth. Stay safe out there!
Socks don’t work too well as improvised booties Kurt as they can get wet and cause real problems with dogs feet. I took a pair of gloves and cut off the fingers and stitched them closed, obviously the gloves on your huge bear paws won’t work lol. A way you could use the socks is to put medical gloves over them once on his feet to keep them dry but really nothing beats proper snow booties. There really important to stop frostbite but for quick pee stops I’m sure he’s fine. Lots of love to you, Sarah, Paige, Troy, cheeks, Mum, Opie and Jacks
Hello from Florida Kurt. I found your channel a few months ago and your daily videos have been something my wife and I look forward to each night. Safe travels my friend!
Opie whines because the snow melts between his paws and if there is a bit of salt in it, it will freeze up again but much colder because of the salt being activated. I have two greyhounds and they have no fur under their paws and it's a mess with snow, it takes like 5 sec and they are whining and limping because their feet gets wet and cold so fast without any protection.
My Sheba was a lot like Jax. Kids could play with her and climb all over her and she never minded it much. Sge would love anyone. We had a dude break into our home once and sheba was his best friend until my mom woke up and said the magic words, then she chased him out and 3 blocks down the road before she came back. lol Sheba was a Pitbull but very well trained by only our family. no professionals were involved. We rescued her from people who used her for pit fighting. she was in bad shape. No one could get near her at first. I spent a couple hours with her and she became my best friend for life lol. Ya gotta love dogs.
I grew up in Mason City now live in Des Moines. It’s always 20 degrees colder there and snow covers the ground 2-3 months longer than anywhere south of highway 20.
Wow first class did it sound happy, i had a German growing up she was very protective calm untill time to move it is cold on the east coast this month coldest in three hrs in the teens at night hate it stay safe get Opie the booties
our 2 Doberman are trained too goes after the arms and legs only, 1 for legs 1 for arms. They been tested a few time , mostly on truckers who do not read the "Guard Dogs on Duty" signs. once the visitors are approved or welcomed by us or our workers then the dogs stand aside and watch or guard us from the visitors, a simple hand shake can trigger a attack. Anything on the other side of the fence is fair game, a visiting rabbit [gone] a wondering cat, allowed.
I picked up a empty trailer once in Indy temp about 10* going back to Windsor Ontario got up to Defiance OH it had warmed up to 20 and snowing from Napoleon OH to Detroit was heavy snow and warmer than Indiana. It's about 150 mi to Defiance going northeast and it warmed up sometimes it doesn't take much.
I am surprised with all the snow in the states you deliver to, that you have missed most of it. Good luck for the rest of the winter. Be safe and havagudun.
I noticed the white smoke and frosty clanging. 2 years ago I pit a webasto heater in my bunk and engine. O go to bed I turn the engine and bunk heated on set the thermostats and go to sleep. Next morning engine is nice and warm and I slept great. Saves me about 27 gallons fuel. My return on investment was 6 months.
You finally made it to the town I live in. The place you parked is just a big parking lot, no stores in that strip mall. If your going to Hormel, it's west of where your parked. Liked the transition between no snow to snow. Good video. Stay warm!
First class isn't the only thing or one that hates the cold! Let talk about the closing force of opie's chaos when jump for the snow. I dont think anyone would want to be on the receiving end of that!
My Big Guy occassionally gets a "flat tire". I have found that if I pick up that paw & hold it a bit, it ice ball that gets in his pads will be dislodged much easier. Big Guy has quite a bit of fur between his toes so it pulls if I don't do that. Opie needs some boots. My Boy won't wear them.
Mr SCHIMDT. There's NOTHING wrong with you. You are sane as the next person. You still respect your parents, wife, children and 🐕🦺🐕🦺. You drive a 95,000 pounds of vehicle safely as possible. Most of the time you spend for your family, 🐕🦺 or First Class not yourself. Mr SCHIMDT you are a 🥇🏆 so just deal with IT . SAFE TRAVELS 🚛💨💨💨
kurt yes get opie boots and a high viz coat boots can be worn any time as there might be glass about that you cannot see mine wears his all the time and on the beach as sand can burn his feet if anybody says anything tell them to walk bare foot in truck parks
I watched your shifting video Sunday. I never could master floating gears, but I had a very strong left leg. Yea, that ice is really hard on dog paws. Stay warm. Be safe.
Jax is my kind of dog, loves kids but takes no prisoners at home thats what you need in family protection esp for your mom and dad think youll find the salt slush is colder than snow member makin ice cream? salt made it cold
The shot of first class in the dark with the headlights was a sweet shot. I immediately thought of the movie Christine. You could totally pull that off on TikTok.
Mason City is usually one of coldest spots in Iowa during the winter. The strip mall you parked at used to be a hopping place Target on one end and Sears on the other. All gone now I see.
Great video. Glad you are getting Opie some boots. Stay safe my friend. God bless you 🙏.
Thanks for sharing Kurt 👍 stay safe and keep warm make sure you fit bright 🌞 socks if there yours ha ha.
Amazing as always thanks. God bless you
Great video Kurt. Would love to see Opie in some boots👍😁🤠
No Commercial. Thanks Professional Truck Driver.Safe Travels.
Another great video. You and Opie do make a great team. Be safe.

Cold start hurts watching. Congratulations on video 501!!!
Glad to hear you and the family are apart of the Chiefs Kingdom up that way!
You're right Opie looks like a big cuddly puppy. Until somebody mess' with Dad🐕🦺
That's an angry sounding kitty. First class sounds good on the cold start.
The cold start at the beginning of the video was amazing to listen to.
Drive safe out there Kurt and hello Opie and jax plus tell your dad hello
Off road trucking, I knew it was deep when you gassed on it and caught another gear.
Thanks for taking everyone along, Stay Safe!
Man that truck sounds awesome

Your family has great dogs but Jack's is a true asset. Have a great trip!!! Thank you
He is a perfect pup.
Love your relationship with your dad.
I agree with you about mornings I’m definitely not a morning person keep the shiny side up and safe travels

Thanks for the tid bits of knowledge brother. Stay safe and warm, and check for ice between Opies paws just in case. Peace.
Thanks for tip on driving or parking on ice and snow

LL Bean has nice dog jackets, I have not paid attention to dog boot brands close enough to relay those. Stay warm and safe!
Yea i would think Opie for sure needs boots walking around in snow and ice. A coat would not hurt either, just for extra protection against the cold. Stay safe and warm.
Kurt Opies feet will be cold on cement or asphalt it's hard on there feet. Stay safe and God bless you and the family.
That's awesome that you have that type of relationship with your father.
❤ nice cold start.
Salt and calcium burns their pads. (Opie)
Love the dash cam footage when you’re driving through small towns! My favorite part of your videos 😎

Dr Pepper, life blood of men. My wife calls it cough syrup. It is so funny to see Opie chasing snow. My Shepherd loves to roll around and make angels.
Keep up the good work and video
When I was driving I had a shepherd wolf mix she was the same way .She liked kids but when she got in the truck she was my guardian .

Kurt. I was told by my veterinary that rock saltire road salt will burn dogs paws. So maybe Opie walked on some.
That's what I was thinking

How are you liking the new tires on the snow /ice ? Safe travels Guys 🇨🇦🤞
That was a real nice cold start, love that engine/exhaust sound. Keep on truckin' :)

Ask your Vet about putting Pumpkin in Opie’s food . Instead of canned dog food. My brother swears by it.
Your dad looks great, and there’s my buddy Opie
Old school classic big red shown here😍
Only a cat makes that beautiful noise lol
The salt will hurt their paws!!
kurt yes get opie boots and a high viz coat boots can be worn any time as there might be glass about that you cannot see mine wears his all the time and on the beach as sand can burn his feet if anybody says anything tell them to walk bare foot in truck parks
What heats up the fuel? Do you have a heater in the tank? Or does it warm up on the return from the engine?
Nice cold start, she's a good kitty cat. I trust Opie would do his job, I would not want to be that person, be safe. 😎
Get those boots for oppie he really needs them lol .
I watched your shifting video Sunday. I never could master floating gears, but I had a very strong left leg. Yea, that ice is really hard on dog paws. Stay warm. Be safe.
Opie has to have his own wardrobe daddy all he has her own word Roshe has coats and sweaters and everything for summer in winter
Nothing runs like a Deere, BUT nothing starts like a CAT!
Jax is my kind of dog, loves kids but takes no prisoners at home thats what you need in family protection esp for your mom and dad think youll find the salt slush is colder than snow member makin ice cream? salt made it cold
