Thanks for these videos luffie, i just finished my first time playing all mgs games and i get easily tangled in the confusing, chaotic mess of the storyline, so your videos really makes it easy to understand the characters, and the story!

I started my channel both as a way to put out more MGS content, but also so that I had excuse to study MGS and better understand it for myself haha I also find MGS super confusing! It’s been a blast diving into these topics tho and connecting with other MGS fans! Since you just finished playing through the series, which is your favorite MGS game?
I think in mgs1, Naomi is mostly bad, but then basically has a change of heart (at least due to seeing she was wrong about Snake)-but it doesn’t come off well. She’s acting like she has a right to withhold vital information from Snake about the virus she injected him with. That’s the one major writing flaw in mgs1 that I actually mind. In mgs4, I think Naomi is kinda supposed to be a femme fatale who turns out to have a basically good goal with dubious methods. Here I think she is severely let down by bad writing, which inadvertently paints her to be worse than she really is. In my experience, what people notice most about her is that she manipulates our beloved Otacon, betrays us for seemingly no reason, pretends to flirt with Vamp even though she doesn’t seem to have any good reason to, and then kills herself for no discernible reason before the mission is even complete (jfc whyyy) Now, this might be unfair to the more noble motives Naomi really had, and ignores her rationale for the deceptions. But that’s how it comes across, and the record never gets cleared up well. When Naomi dies, it’s immediately after she was pretending to be evil, and still way BEFORE we learn the truth about her, so it doesn’t hit the right note at all. She finally has a postmortem message that reveals she was a major player in a behind-the-scenes plot to defeat the Patriots, but it’s too little too late. And in my own view, it’s so confusing what her plan was, it’s hard to figure out how much of it may or may not have been justifiable. Also, everything Big Boss later tells Snake about her is strange. Apparently, Naomi discovered at the last minute that Foxdie II means Snake doesn’t have to unalive, and somehow she sent a message about this to Big Boss. Okay… so then why didn’t Naomi tell Snake this, before she unalived? Make it make sense. :/
Naomi was always deep to me. Not because her character is deep, but how I feel about her goes about 7 icebergs down. Naomi wasn’t a favorite of mine in mgs1, I even took more a liking to liquid and roy. Although my favorite supports were always otacon and mei ling. And she sunk even lower after mgs4. I understand people say that she was somewhat close with sunny, but my thoughts are. What if sunny was older by that point, and naomi didn’t find her relatable? Sunny would just be another test subject for naomi. And her seducing a mentally unstable otacon takes the cake for me. To me the bad out ways the good, a potential walking pandemic and human experimenting. Outways curing cancer and helping with the patriots ai. God knows how much damage snake would do if foxdie mutated fully. Potentially world ending. Still tho she’s a grey area. We obviously didn’t see what she was doing for those nine years. But I doubt it was anything good if she was with ocelot/liquid. Good analysis tho, it was fun!
Naomi Hunter, what a woman with a deep dark past. Like Bruce Wayne/Batman, she is that little girl craving revenge against Solid Snake. She is more of Delilah to deceive Snake and Mary to find redemption at the end of MGS4
She reminds me of a bully i once knew. To beat up others was ok apparently but god forbid if soneone hit her brother! And yes I do believe Naomi did alot good deeds, but that doesn't excuse the fact she didn't attempt to cure fox die.
Dang I can see the parallel... And it's interesting that you don't feel like Naomi's good deeds (like making FOXALIVE) doesn't make up for the wrong she's done. I'm so on the fence about whether or not FOXALIVE was enough to make up for everything bad she'd done... I feel like you can't compare the two. Like, I'm glad Naomi created FOXALIVE, but I don't forgive her for picking up Dr. Clark's work after she's gone and experimenting on the Genome Soldiers or for creating FOXDIE
Not sure if it was you or Ytube, but the censorship here is on another level. Wow. C'mon now, I thought I was being objective and somewhat neutral in my observation of this character. It's a video game where the story was made up as they went along, for Pete's sake 😂
