Interesting tutorial. I use Google earth and the iphone app The Photographer's Ephemeris. I find 500px and Flickr useful sometimes. It depends on where i am going. They are less useful in wilderness areas where I kayak and hike. Thank you for sharing.

You are right about that, John - Google Earth, TPE and 500px are all great resources! I'll be making a future video on photo and composition research including 500px, Google Earth and a few other tools that you may not already be using. Meetup is great, especially if you haven't been to an area before, because so much of the logistical aspects of the potential trip are all laid out for you. Have you ever been on a hiking or photography Meetup before? I think they have them in Australia too.

I have been on a local meetup with other local landscape photographers. As for hiking and kayaking I tend to go alone or with family members. I learnt along time age that my photo habits dont always go down well with other hikers and paddlers. Staying in one place for a couple of hours to wait for the light didn't always sit well.

haha, I can relate to that. Kayaking and photography...sounds like a lovely combo! What's so helpful with Meetup here in the PNW is how well the leaders know the areas. So for some of the high mountain stuff it really does help to have more than just a trip report. More than anything, it's a great place to get ideas and meet new friends. Thanks again for stopping by, John.
