    • @frankhoward7645
      @frankhoward7645 4 года назад +10

      @Boyo Sosa I live in south Minneapolis. My neighborhood as well as the vast majority of south Minneapolis is very nice. Sure, we're not without crime, but it's far less frequent than you imply it is. There is a part of south Minneapolis that's pretty bad, but that's maybe 2% of south Minneapolis. I'm not trying to not bring up anything. I've live here for 45 years. I'm just telling it like it is.

    • @frankhoward7645
      @frankhoward7645 4 года назад +3

      @Boyo Sosa Cedar Riverside is part of South Minneapolis? I've never heard of anyone who lives in Cedar Riverside say they live in South Minneapolis. Oh sure, technically, it's in Minneapolis and it's slightly south (mostly east) of downtown Minneapolis but if you're going to call Cedar Riverside part of south Minneapolis, you may as well call the entire south section of downtown Minneapolis part of South Minneapolis. Little Earth (Cedar), 41st, Chicago, and Franklin. You just laid out a 12x20 block area (240 blocks) which I said was 2% of South Minneapolis. Maybe it's 3%. Maybe even 4%. It's certainly not the vast majority of South Minneapolis. So where do (did) you live?

    • @frankhoward7645
      @frankhoward7645 4 года назад +2

      @Boyo Sosa Perhaps they're looking for some street cred by claiming they live in South Minneapolis, I don't know. One thing I do know is that there's a world of difference between living in Little Earth and living on Lake Harriet. I don't know how one can claim they're the same neighborhood.

    I've been through Minneapolis a lot and have family there. Like others have commented, it's easily one of the tamest and cleanest areas/cities you've driven through and I would have to agree. It's got a lot of greenery and parks, a surprisingly liberal/cosmopolitan feel for a Midwestern city but still has a much lower cost of living compared to Chicago or NYC. I myself have thought I'd love to live there if it wasn't for the weather but then that's something my uncles likes to say "keeps the riffraff out". There's no way someone could be slumming it or aimlessly hanging out in the streets when several feet of snow can drop in a night and it becomes one of the coldest major cities in the country. Combine that with the Scandinavian and German heritage (Lutheran or nonreligious; minimalism, etc.) and it makes sense why it's a few bars above the drives through Detroit or Atlanta! haha

      @@minerva3951 Maybe not phrased correctly, but most Lutherans are theologically moderate to liberal. And In Scandinavian countries where they come from, like Norway, some Lutheran churches were flying flags for the lgbt+ community as far back as the early 2000s. And the Lutheran church I visited w/ family had a female pastor/minister. So that's what I was getting at. It's undeniably going to have an effect on the culture of a city versus a southern city like Atlanta where baptists have influence there. Just my own observations really.

    This tour of the infamous North Minneapolis neighborhood sure brings back some dark memories for me. I worked awake-overnights in a group home for SPMI adults located off of N Lyndale, and the memory of my first night working there that took place 11 years ago is still fresh in my mind. I remember half the Mpls. police force were summoned to surround the house next door to the group home where 4 armed gunmen were looking for a young mother who owed them drug money. The mother had conveniently left her four kids inside the house while she barged into the group home to use our phone to call the cops. I was working alone - the budget couldn't afford to hire a 2nd overnight staff - and was giving a client medication at the time, so I had no idea what was going on until I caught the woman using our phone. As the night progressed, things got even more bizarre with the woman, her four kids, her mother and the mother's boyfriend taking refuge in the group home, courtesy of the police who had no where else to put them (it WAS 2:00AM, after all; everyone else on the street was sleeping). A fistfight occurred between the woman and her mother in front of the children and my clients that the police paid no nevermind to. It wasn't until I screamed at the cops that I would not tolerate such behavior in a group home housing SPMI clients that one cop schlepped inside and handcuffed the woman while her mother stood there crying. It had been a cold winter night, and the children who were between the ages of four and twelve wore nothing but pjs and were barefoot. My clients were extraordinarily supportive, getting the kids warm clothes from their own closets and setting up board games for them to play. I was so proud of them! My shift was to end at 7:30am, but I was there until well after 9am writing out the incident report. If I hadn't needed the damn money to live on, I would have handed in my pink slip and headed west. Anyway, that's my darkest North Minneapolis memory, and I would spend the next 11 months driving to work through West Broadway and North Lyndale with my hair on end, because the violence and danger in the air was so thick, a pick axe couldn't penetrate it. I was all too glad to be out of there when the time came.

When I brought this idea to my mother during the time the house I was living in was going up for sale she barked at me for that. Over a year and a half later I relocated to Bloomington where even though the cost of living was eating away at my bank account it was the place where I had the most satisfactory record of rental history in a place in the closest proximity where I always wanted to see firsthand what it was like living in that area of the Twin Cities where I also had the longest rental stay in history.

    I used to live by 6th st and 22nd ave near W broadway in 2007-14, I remember those days were some of the best from my childhood. Back then there were many abandon houses near where I lived and many robberies. Today that area has been renovated so there are more jobs. I remember seeing cops dump bags of chips filled with gas, there by Lyndale Ave many drugs dealers were arrested. Occasionally you would find a few dimes and dubs lying around the bush somewhere and you take it for yourself haha. There used to be a few dog fighting houses near there too, and if you were unlucky you'd find yourself running in an alley with a pit chasing you. As a teenager guns became pretty common at a young age. People were willingly to sell you a firearm, though I never bought one myself. Back then North used to be nuts and kind of felt lawless, I'm just glad people are making the community there a better place.

      I grew up in this area...
      0:44 Use to be known location when I was a kid as a shoot out location between to Hmong Gangs in the past.
      Two block to the left of this street and a few block back was a school. The location where the Police shoot and kill a Hmong teen name Fong Lee. The police shoot him over 27 times stating he had a gun. But in the School video he had no gun.
      The big building to the left of the intersection corner was recently built. And behind that building is a Hmong store that's been their for years. Majority of the Hmong here have move out.
      1:50 That school to the right of the video was the location where 15 years ago a Hmong teen out playing basketball at night by himself was attack and stab over 135 times by 13 black guys for his wallet that had 40 dollars. That Hmong teen that was kill. His relatives were Hmong A.C Gang and they went on a crazy retaliation. They track down the location of those black guys and kill 10 of the 13 black guys in their basement execution style. The other three black guys turn themselves in to get away from the Hmong Gang.
      2:17 That hill is a park. 20 years ago that area was known for dumping bodies. Is a lot clean now...
      2:29 this location up to that Broadway intersection is a well known location for shootout between the black people. This area is really active at night. This is also the area back in my younger days where I got arrested. Me and my buddies use to steal a lot of cars in these area 20+ years ago and sell the parts. We needed money to survive back then. We hit a car smack head on trying to get away. Never did that again and got out of that life style after that.
      4:09 in this video you see a lot of black people. But in the past this area also had just as much of Hmong people too. 20 years ago the Asian Hmong Gang's and the Black Gang's here use to have conflicts in the past especially against the Black G.D gangs that the Hmong use to call Garbage Diggers.
      But eventually the beff between the two side settle down. The are later became the Hmong P.B gang territories.
      But 10 years ago knew Hmong refugees coming from over sea started to settle in this area. They also came with Gangs from Thailand and they started stirring up the area. They attacked everyone from the Hmong gang that's been here already to the black gang in the area. They were ruthless arriving from Thailand. But as fast as they came they were also push out just as fast. Some were arrested on murder charge and deported back. Some got scare of their crimes/deportation and fled to different states. Most took foot hold in St. Pual instead. After that I left these area to live in the suburbs. So I don't know what happen after that and what's been going on in this area.
      7:08 this area have a lot of Hmong and mostly been good now compare to other part. But 20 years ago this area was extremely known for drug dealing and prostitution and broke down abandon house. Is so much better now...
      7:52 this is more of the out skirt of the ghetto now. This area is pretty safe. These large building on Broadway Street was recently built cleaning up the area.
      8:56 This intersection always have car crash. Also a known shootout location. This area have been clean up so much...
      9:18 that long building to the right was recently built. In the past their was multiple broke down abandon house their. The area was known for homeless hang out and drug dealing and prostitution. Those abandon building was also known for bodies dumping. The area was so bad that the city decided to demolition the entire abandon house. And for the longest time the area was just a open field until this building was built on it.
      9:40 the building to the left is Northpoint hospital clinic. This area 20+ years ago was known for shoot out between asian Hmong Gangs. 10 years ago was totally under the Hmong P.B Gang control. Now I don't know.... because a lot of Hmong have move out to the suburbs now that most Hmong have become wealthy now.
      But seeing these area now I'm happy of the direction this area have become. Because this place 20+ years ago was so much worser. This area back in the days were known as Murderapolis

    The hood in north side Minneapolis is in good shape cause there's plenty of jobs available. Unlike Detroit where jobs were outsourced to other country. Minneapolis have a lot of jobs ranging from blue to white collar and expanding. Twin cities isn't dependent on one industry. We are a multi industry city.

Like where he filmed at merlin liquor literally had an open air drug market up until about a year ago.. n the gas station right across the street.. known of so many people getting shot there.. that lil area right behind the liquor store/needle exchange is where a lot of the action is in the north side

If this is the worst they have to offer, its really not that bad. Not a flex on what cities "hoods" are the worst. Hi, Charlie from Russia) Sorry, my English (Google) I Have a question (it shocks me) - why are houses made of cheap boards and foam lined with cheap tiles worth hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars? I only see this explanation - if the house is cheap (at the true price) - the person will not take out the loan, he will just earn and buy the house) And the banks will suck) This is bad for the owners of the banks) So there are 300,000 financial slaves and satisfied bankers)) This is a great system) For bankers) Am I right? )
    I'm even afraid to imagine how rich the owners of banks controlling the credit market in the US are, because almost everyone in the United States, as far as I've heard, has several loans)

    • @CharlieBo313

      Not really understanding what you're talking about. All I can tell you is the cheaper houses are made of wood and the more expensive ones are made of bricks and concrete.

      @@CharlieBo313 I'm talking about the EXTREME discrepancy between the price of the material and the price of the house for sale. I would call this - EXPENSIVE homes made of tree of and VERY EXPENSIVE made of stone ) the US - this not Saudi Arabia where there is no tree of - you have enough forests but the price homes prohibitive. I see this as a large profit builders, land owners, state (taxes) and most importantly ! - credit system where converge all the roads of the maze ) If I tell you the price of the houses made of wood (and other materials ) in Russia, then you'll be very surprised. Even given the higher salaries in the US - the situation is not in your favor )

      @@Saint696AngerFor example - a new capital house of 220 m2 (open floor plan without interior partitions) , 20 miles from Moscow, without interior decoration, concrete and foam concrete blocks, with a gas pipe and a plot of 6 acres - 15 million rubles - is 230 000 $. Let me remind you - IT's NEAR MOSCOW, it's a very good place !
