Humans have forgotten how to coexist with nature. For example, we have a large coyote population in our area. We still camp outside and yes, coyotes have come into our yard as we sleep outside. One night, I had to use the bathroom and on my way into the house I came face to face with a large alpha. I sat down and became small. Why? So I looked less intimidating. He walked towards me. He didn't charge and didn't bare his teeth. He wasn't snarling and I sat very still with my hands in my lap so not to worry him. He sat down right in front of me and as he looked at me I looked back at him. I spoke softly to him and he got up and ran off. Show no fear and stay safe. Besides, there's nothing to fear. Animals, no matter the size, don't usually attack unless provoked. Sometimes, they are just as curious about us as we are about them.
Find an area not lived in and build. They'll appear. Many seem to forget it was the mountain lions territory first, then want to take out all threatening wildlife for doing what's natural.

@yuo3670 No, sliding glass doors are not typically reinforced glass. Slam that door hard enough and watch it shatter. No glass doors are security doors used to prevent people from entering, they are used to have nice aesthetics.
Ive lived out in the mountains my entire life and can confirm there is not much to worry about. Its pretty rare for a lion to break into someone's house. Bears are normally the ones who do that sort of thing. They are rather timid when coming into contact with humans and would rather run away than confront a human. You could have probably scared it off if you came closer to the door or made yourself seem bigger. The biggest concern is letting your dog out alone. Best be there with a weapon when your dog is let outside. They do get scared of loud sudden noises most of the time.
Dude. Seriously? Calm down. That was TWO. accounts of a mountain lion getting desperate enough to actually go after something as risky as a human. Because you are talking about bringing up "facts" let me lay this out for you. In the past 100 YEARS there have been fewer than 2 dozen FATAL mountain lion attacks in north America. Since 1986 (to present day) in California alone there have been a confirmed 22 NON-FATAL mountain lion attacks and only 3 attacks resulting in deaths. The average cow. That dog was not in danger. Every mountain lion is not looking to kill a dog! The dog did not sense any danger with this particular mountain lion but that does not mean the next mountain lion won’t come to attack the dog. The bigger issue is that back yard is inviting to mountain lions so remove whatever is attracting them to that back yard. Get some motion sensor lights, a radio that plays talk radio outside, repellant for the other critters mountain lions follow after like deer and possum, clean up any trash in the yard, and once in a while pee outside because the smell of human pee is a critter repellant
I’m a pet sitter and even here in central Virginia, I never leave my charges outside alone for even a minute! There are all kinds of predators, from birds of prey to black bears; even in the suburbs! I’m glad that pooch was indoors and I hope they keep their doors locked!

@@dioxiz4458 So when I look out my glass deck door and the squirrel sitting outside just looks back at me and ignores me it's because the squirrel is stupid? That's why you se videos of squirrel and birds not running as a indoor cat paws at them thru the window. That same animal would bolt with the quickness w/o the glass barrier. The dog understand the lion would be a threat, but also knows it's protected by the glass. If anything it's likely intentionally taunting the lion by standing there. For some reason the human woman isn't smart enough to understand that the glass is a barrier. And if she is so scared and thinks it has the strength to break thru she should be getting two of the biggest knives she has to deal with it if it actually did get inside somehow.
@Daniel Drader It's a small dog. The glass has never broken. Why would that dog think it could for no reason? Not that I believe that cougar could. Most animals won't throw themselves into a solid barrier. If you're afraid that a cougar is going to break glass you might as well move. How could you ever feel safe living in an area where a cougar could come bursting through the door at any moment? @@savedbygrace6076I'm not so sure...larger predators don't always attack. Humans put too much thought into what would, should, could happen but the laws of nature are sooo different.

She don't need a man tho
Man, I just love the focus of these animals. That cougar is zeroing in on that pup like winner, winner, time for dinner! 🫣
