I'm number 53 Thanks for the video. I am a first time 2nd gen 12v owner for almost a year I need all the info I can get. I thought my front main was bad though now I Have learned its just the tappet cover up behind the power steering pump where you cant see , all I can see is the oil oozing down the side. I didn't even know there was a tappet cover there. anyway thanks again. I am more confident in tearing into mine now . Probably nothing on a stock cam. But the lobes on this cam are wider they are the width of the 24v tappet. More surface area to spread the pressure of the springs onto. Probably a good thing since I have upgraded stiffer valve springs.

Only vid on how to do this, but I would say WHY you started drilling the holes instead of threading through the eyelets . . . because the string binds up in the guides and you can't pull it up unless you use tweezers or needle-nose pliers. But whatever, it's already said and done. I had to use a 3/4" x 3/4" 4' piece of aluminum edge to get the tappets out, but putting in was easy; I HIGHLY advise a second person who can hold the strings and pull them up and down as you do this; I also used a hi-powered flashlight but of course it was a cloudy day. Round the rough edges of the aluminum if you do this, so you don't damage anything inside, though it is a soft metal but will also help you slide smoother. and not get caught up on anything. Same way coming out and going in; top facing you. If they are smooth dowels like I had just cut a sliver in the top about 3/8 deep and make a tiny bevel to get it started; I used fishing strong fishing line and only left 1/4" excess past the knot. I was able to reuse my dowels but they were TIGHT, so be your own judge, had to wiggle them out with pliers. As for the height of dowels, no taller than 1-1"4 . . . the 24v are about a 1/4 shorter so going back in is faaaaar easier, with the half-pipe. -THANKS A TON!
Yeah that would have been a good time to take it off and reseal it. Ended up taking it back apart later to do that 🤦. Crank pressure from 55psi of boost will find a way out if she's not sealed up tight.

I didn't have any symptoms. I noticed wear when I took it apart. If you're having low oil pressure that would be from a worn oil pump or more likely excessive bearing clearances from 400k miles. You could try putting a fresh pump on it. Probably just needs a full rebuild. Or grab a 1-200k motor off someone for cheap. There are plenty around. As far as ppump goes I would have a shop rebuild it. There's alot of very expensive tools you're not going to have to make sure it's working properly such as flow benching the pump. Use yours as a core on a rebuilt one.

When you install the cam gear on the cam shaft is there any kind of markings to line up for tdc
Nick S it is keyed it only goes on one way.
How much different is the 12v from 24v besides the injection pump
Very. I think crank is the same. But design is similar. You can swap alot of 12v parts into a 24v.
