Tony Khan's problem is that he can't understand or accept that you're supposed to book for OTHER people, not yourself. If other people don't care about your show, no one will watch and that's EXACTLY what is happening.

The fact that it's half way into 2024 and AEW are back competing with NXT for the TV ratings is a really bad sign. With the names on AEW's roster, the ratings battle shouldn't be this close.

TK has done more to hurt MJF since his return than I thought possible.
1. Return in a throwaway segment on ppv with an unfocused promo and dumb tattoo
2. Have him wrestle an opening competitive match against a guy who doesn't win and take risky bumps
3. Put mjf on ppv vs a wrestler no one in the US is familiar with.
4. Have mjf offer a midcarder a match at the company's biggest ppv on the go home show to the current PPV.
5. Have mjf not make any effort to go after the AEW Championship.
Also Mjf could have at least gone up against the rest of undisputed kingdom guys or even Samoa Joe lol but they instead had him wrestle guys who were barely on TV
Of course Tony's booking the Jericho cruise...nobody books his toys but him.

the concept of Forbidden Door needs to either end in 2024 or Tony Khan needs to figure out a way to do a show with WWE (which will never happen, I know).
NO ONE cares about random Mexican guy vs random AEW mid-card guy.
NO ONE cares about old Japanese guy vs washed up AEW guy.
it's a wrestling gimmick that's so niche that even the biggest online marks are done with AEW. Think about that: a mark pandering company that marks are bored with.
the reason Forbidden Door didn't work is because there was never a Forbidden Door in AEW.. and doing a crossover with NJPW is kinda pointless because they were already doing talent trading.
The only reason there was a "Forbidden Door" is because WWE didn't acknowledge other companies, but WWE had already started acknowledging other companies by the time AEW started, so the concept was moot.
Not to mention they never actually did any sort of angles or stories to make the it mean anything... any "invasion" was half-asses and poorly explained and none of the matches meant anything before they started or after they were finished.
At this point its just branded that way so he's going to keep it.
A lot of you dudes who didn't watch the indies, ROH or NJPW's US expansion in the late 2010s don't get it. Okada, Tanahashi, Minoru Suzuki, Rush etc. were already over with US crowds BEFORE AEW EVEN STARTED. The reason why AEW is putting them on and created Forbidden Door is because THE FANS DEMANDED IT. Just because YOU don't know who they are doesn't mean they don't have an audience. As I always say, the problem isn't the talent...it's TKs terrible booking. No amount of talent can make a show hot when the booker is a creatively incompetent clown. Look at WWE 5 years ago for proof.

You know what would help aew . Consistent characters on the show . You see so many wrestlers on there show for a week or two then you dont see them again for months . How can you get a person or character over if there gone as soon as you start too care about them .

They always fuck up the finish or they do a match on tv that they should save for the ppv. If you see backstage fights and ladders and steel cages on rampage or collision why would you care for the ppv? It will be a dragged out longer version of the match you saw on tv
It's pretty simple, Forbidden door is this weekend and this was the go home show before the ppv, not many care about Forbidden door.
The fans ruined my whole experience with this company. First episode airs and the fans are already being hyper dorks calling it the greatest thing ever. AEW FANS ARE THE WORST

On Konnan's point of following where WWE heats things up. Beyond that Bischoff wasn't far off with ideas like Sturgis. I mean right idea maybe wrong venue, still right idea.
Example Grand Junction, CO has two massive music festivals Rock Jam and Country Jam and the Junior College world series JuCo, but even when those are going nothing else to do. Could piggy back some solid numbers off those three if it's done right. It's something like a million plus in all 3 cases, not bad for a population under half a million and that's a lot of bored tourists.

The Big Bang Theory just means that much to their number. Not only does it help the lead-in, but they catch the people who end up leaving it on after the show is over, who fall asleep, go into the kitchen, go do something else. etc., and leave the channel on. That effect goes beyond the first quarter-hour.

It's funny how all the three things attributed to AEW lowest ratings ever is black themed "Juneteenth", Black Panther lead in and Kendrick Lamar pop-up concert on Amazon. Don't associated black people with the lack of creatively for AEW programming.
Is there any consideration that AEW Dynamite, Rampage and Collison are all sh*tty booked shows for a small niche group that caters to illogical booking with no character development, no vignettes or storylines. Tony Khan said it himself he only books for the "sickos". He always thinks he everything is alright. As long as he books his shows for the "sickos" and not consider booking for the causal fans they will always underperform on TV and the ratings are proving it. I've been watching wrestling for a long time and it doesn't matter how much great wrestling is on a particular wrestling show people want a variety show not just wall to wall wrestling.
