    It's 5 years after you made this video and I have just ordered one of these! It is still in a class of it's own when it comes to size, features (especially for 10m use), and power output. I'm looking forward to this one.

      MikesRadioRepair yea I was wanting this radio for both cb and some of the 10 meter channels but no one had a good answer on frequency ranges but you showed it and it'd what I was looking for. the only question is using the 10m frequencies 28.3-28.5 can I use my cb antenna or do I need a different one.

    It's a long press on the channel selector after choosing the HQ FREQ (or other 2 options) to lock it in - It will say RESETTING MCU and then your good just restart the radio. If you don't do that it will not lock in and default back to the HAM only (10 meter) setting. Thank you for the videos and your channel it's very helpful!

    Talked to tech at stryker two days ago , San is in the engineering process now. Should be available within a year. Nice guys ,talked for an hour . Not rushed with my problem at all. Best customer service I've ever encountered. Encoder board is out there now. So they said. It's April 11 2018 now. Not sure when this video was made. These radios are great, not much need to change anything inside. I added a 12volt fan on top for added cooling and getting my stryker a10 antenna in about 6 hours. Can't wait. This will be my starting radio. Just waiting to take my tech test. 73's

    I actually love this radio i got 4 of them for 120.00 and spend a little tuning them and use then with 4 pill boxes and 102 whip and have amazing reports oh also a d104 handmike .
    I havewell over a 100 radios this stands out for power versus package size.
    I would like it a little better with ssb.

    Good video...as you say the manual is quite poor for radio debutantes...I seem to have accidently stored two channels in the memory and can't for the life of me work out how to erase them. Lots of features but a lot of familiarisation is needed to work out the abbreviations and menus.

      Can only fit so much in this little package. Would be the perfect radio if it had SSB and CW modes. Still makes the nice little 10 meter FM rig for little money. Can't wait for them to release the DTMF board and Bluetooth microphone for this radio.

      If it had it, it wouldn't be a small radio like this. Can only do so much within a limited size. This is perfect as a 10 meter rig. Add the DTMF encoder board and it's the perfect low buck radio to use on the local repeters.

    • @DonDegidio

      Mike,
      Do you think that un-populated area of the board might be used for a SSB detector?

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  7 лет назад

      Donald D'Egidio
      No, there isn't enough room in that tiny place for all the parts needed for SSB. The crystal filter alone would probably take more room than that.

    Mike, Do you think it would hold up in a Jeep for off road communications? Also, how well does it handle strong signals near by ( like another Jeep 25' away transmitting)? I'm using an Uniden 520 now and that radio does well. Other than that, wish it had SSB for 10 meters!

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  7 лет назад +2

      KA5IVR
      Shock durability should be good. Doesn't have any edge soldered board connections and SMD design is more resilient to shock due to smaller component size. As long as the guy 25 feet away isn't running an amplifier I don't think there would be any problem with front end overload.

    That’s a really nice radio. But I’m looking for something classic for my 53 Chevy. I was taking a good luck at your stabilock readings. Is the 30% AM modulation a test standard for Sinad AM measurement. Regards Chris .

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, 30% modulation at 1kHz is a standard for AM communications testing. It's the average of human voice modulation. If you look at modulation on a oscilloscope of someone talking there's only a power density of about 30%. Speech is continuously changing and rarely peaks at 100% and the "average" works out to 30%.

    • @allthegearnoidea6752
      @allthegearnoidea6752 5 лет назад

    rci 2950's/70's Rangers had bad side channel selectivity. junk as I see it. yes an opinion. but there's fact to back it up the opinon.

      Absolutely no argument here. Rangers for the most part have horrible adjacent channel rejection and sensitivity. They are also known for horrible SSB operation due to frequency drift.

    I beleive asq is as auto squelch. a position of the squelch knob. like that of my emperor ts5010. but that why I hate menu driven radios. let me have full control of my radios. radios as such don't allow it. I have to pick a selection. where a knobs allows me that full feature of control.

      If this radio had a knob or button for every function you would probably have 40 or 50 buttons and controls. The radio would be huge. Ultimately you do have full control, you just need to select what you want to control. And another advantage is you can change what each button does so it's customizable.

      I just as soon not have so many options for controls. Who needs all those buttons and knob's. The problem with the Stryker 955 is that it's control face is cluttered with stuff you do not need! You could get rid of that huge digital meter on the left and the narrow but long freq. display to the upper right and put in a nice long taller LCD or other display like an RCI or Lincoln and free up a lot of space for the controls to be better spaced and laid out. Get rid of the echo/talk-back/7 color changing display/32 levels of dimming/ 60 roger beeps and that would be a fantastic radio that you could actually use in a mobile environment with out taking your eye's off the road. Their is so much stuff you could add to a radio to make it much better for actual communication especially in a mobile environment. That most real amateur radio's have had at least the last 10 years.
      I am tired of gimicks and radio's that are a pain in the butt to use in the real world. I am tired of cheap feeling controls and radio's that do not fit in a modern car! I am not driving a 1980's Peter Built or Western Star! Computers, Cameras, Phones, TV's have all changed and modernized and offer more not less. My parents still have some old school rather large expensive tv's int he house and they cost 2X-3X what the generic Chinese flat screens cost and they can nto compete for color, resolution, etc....Only CB radio's and export radio's have moved backwards and offer less in many cases or more gimmicks but less real value.If the white noise in so loud you can not hear the guy you want to talk to what good is the radio? If you can not easily work the controls what good is the radio in a mobile environment? If you can not drive your amp because you can not find a low power radio that has a decent dead key and does not swing widely with modulation like most mosfet radio's today what good is the radio? If you buy a SSB radio and it drifts all over the place or has odd motor boating in it and it can not be adjusted to fix it what good is it?
      I doubt we will see anything better 10 years from now we will likely have the same garbage because that is what sells in the CB world. Ignorance is bliss and big belt buckles, shiny bass boats with lots of metallic flake and chrome sells. People would rather have a 400 watt chromed out AM only 8 band splater box with a huge meter and a fake freq. display that drifts sad but true. It is like that $1200 85 tool 141 function Swiss Army Knife it is expensive and has a lot of gimmicks but fails as a knife or even as a tool!
      I like this little radio it is prob. the best AM only radio that you can buy in America right now new not NOS. It's not perfect but it sure does seem to have it where it counts most and seems to have a lot of common sense in it's design and layout! No doubt that is because it was not designed for the CB market at all!!! This radio will likely be skipped over by 99% of the CB market!

      buckaroobonsi555 well that's you and what you like. i see that in many people. now you should be happy. I want controls that I can readily get to. like those on my kenwood ts950. but I'm more of a Cadillac operator.

      Nothing Stryker sells is truly a "Ham" radio! Most Ham radio's have to many tiny buttons, to many multi-function controls and too many endless menu's of stuff 1/2 of people prob. do not even use. The only way I would spend big money on a real Ham radio would be if it was super simple to use or it had a fantastic computer interface that makes using it intuitive and easy.
      I would love to have a radio with mechanical movements and heavy switches and really smooth gear reduction vernier dials and such! I generally take a dim view of 99% of electronics today because the user interfaces are total and complete garbage yet all these men with more money than brains keep giving these companies big money! I am fine with SMD boards and insane density or population of those boards. I am not a golden screw driver I know my limits and I know what gear I want to afford and can justify owning in terms of repair equipment and test gear. A lot of these companies have dropped product support from their products that are not that old on equipment that is more software driven than hardware driven by refusing to create updates and patches for equipment forcing user's to either hack the gear and mod it or go out and buy new gear. In some cases they have done this after releasing a limited update that worked just fine but they decided they would lose too much money by updating the older gear compared to forcing user's to buy newer equipment.
      Where I get pissed is in the user interface. If you are going to make it digital and electronic than you had better go all out and make something worthy of 2017 that is as easy to use as Windows so point and click easy. I think a $200-$700 radio should be able to outperform a $29 tracfone from Walmart in terms of user interface. If you are not going to go all out than give me some killer analog mechanical that will work every day for the next 20 years minimum!!! I want encoders that do not wobble or spin free that give real feedback like a channel selector would!!! I want plastic that is thick high density and feels like quality! I do not want plastic pot's with tin foil thin parts inside. I want a chassis that is thick enough to keep the board from flexing when mounted in the OEM bracket and works as a heat sink. I want high quality crystal or ceramic filter's that work! Like all Americans if I do not die from sever trauma like a car accident of homicide I will die of old age, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes or cancer before anyone in the CB world or the Amateur world builds a radio I want to own! The problem is that you have to use something and the stuff I would like to use is just plain wearing out and often does not have a replacement part so what choice do you have?
      No one builds a radio with kick but electronics a great mechanical analog user interface at any price today. No one builds a radio with gear reduction vernier dials with ball bearings and really heavy duty stacked switches and really solid ceramic, brass and nickle rotary switches with analog needle movements and a PC interface. A $7,000.00 Amateur radio has a user interface that reminds me of a 1990's Mercedes with all kinds of tiny little buttons with more than one function that will require the wealthy old retired fart that owns it to put his bifocals on to operate it. By the time he learns how to fully use all of it's functions and settings he will be ready for a nursing home or his mind is failing him!
      So really we can not turn back the hands of time and too many old men have more money than brains and will keep paying top dollar for junk! The only time a company really listens to customers and leaves a lot of money on the table is when they are getting ready to go out of business. As long as everything is going well they will keep taking money out of the product any place they can until the costumer complain and vote with their wallet.
      Once a company goes to China it normally is all down hill not because it is China but because once they start thinking a certain way no amount of profit is enough! They start looking for a way to shave cost constantly. Look where Cobra, Uniden, Galaxy, Connex, RANGER are today with quality control, parts used, design elements and execution of design!!! Enough said!

      buckaroobonsi555 with the striker brand and past radios, that's fact. but in a way this radio come so close to being a real ham readio. if only they had provided the two options that must be purchased. I've owned old rigs that didn't come with any tone boards, the kenwood tr7950. so I'll never buy a new rig without all the options. the radio with all those menu driven functions. it like a qrp rig if icom had made a ic706 in qrp only. or even like my yeasu ft857d.
